General Velen Information

Transfers - Free transfers to Velen from the realms of Area 52, Arygos, Ghostlands, Hellscream and Zul'jin occurred from 2/26/08 to 3/4/08 bringing about a massive change in population density for the server. Paid tranfers are currently avaiable.

Player Types - A mixture of transfers, Pre-BC raiders, and casual players alike. Many people on Velen enjoy engaging in Player Versus Player competitive environments and there are a range of highly ranked teams in existence.

Peak Times - At approximately 8.00 AM - 12.00 AM Server Time, Velen reaches its peak of logged in players. Latency isn't much of an issue during these times and queues remain dormant.

Realm Forums - Wear your anti-troll cologne. Attempt to use some form of proper grammar structure, or rudimentary English skills...or if you do not, at least claim you're French Canadian.

Pickup Groups - Heroic/Karazhan - At the moment, Karazhan pickup groups seem to be on the rise. Heroic pickup groups you have to be careful with. If the group has at least 3 people in one of the fairly progressed guilds, you are safe. If not, the odds are good that you will be spending a high amount on repair bills and are likely of not completing the instance. If you get stuck in one of those groups, try to keep your cool. Velen does have a large degree of greenhorns, and unfortunately it is possible to progress to level 70 without learning how to play your class properly. Try to give subtle pointers here and there so that down the road, they won't seem so awful. Marking is also a priority here.

Shattered Sun Offensive Status - Phase 4B. Portal constructed, anvil built and the monument is up. Velen is at approximately 66% completion of phase 4 for the gem vendor.

Battleground Queue Times

Battlegrounds at level 70 are of prime importance because of a relatively lackluster twink population. The Horde in this battlegroup perform very well in Alterac Valley and Warsong Gulch.

• Buffet - Although not on Velen, enjoys spamming the realm forums

• Sisterdoctor - Forum poster, very amusing at times

• CaReBeaR CluB - PvP and PvE Guild that likes to slay certain Gnomish Kings

Player Distribution - Age And Gender

Roughly 30% of Velen's population seems to be female, at least vocal and loud ones. If you add in the ones that aren't obnoxious, and prefer to stay quiet, it's going to be around the 45% mark, much higher than I've seen on previous servers. Any "chicks only heal" or serious sexist comments that are not meant in good fun will probably be met with severe reactions. Age wise the general population appears to exist between the ages of 17 - 40 and most people are fairly mature however, the occasional offensive joke can sour this reputation. If you're keen to join a guild which participates in instances, be sure to act the part and be both grown-up and sociable at the same time. Ventrilo capabilities are integral to your success in many medium to large sized guilds; don't be afraid to speak up and more importantly, don't be afraid to enjoy your time with the guild and its members.
