Shadow Word: Death is a priest ability learned at level 46. It is a Shadow Word - a Shadow-based direct damage spell. It can only be used on targets below 20% health.

For shadow priests it also generates a [Shadow Orb].

• Patch 3.0.3 (04-Nov-2008): Shadow Word:Death: The self-damage from this spell can no longer be reflected or redirected. 
  
• Patch 2.3.0 (13-Nov-2007): Resilience no longer reduces the backlash damage from this spell. 
  
• Patch 2.1.0 (22-May-2007): Cooldown increased to 12 sec and will now properly damage the casting Priest when it is reflected. 
  
• Patch 2.0.3 (09-Jan-2007): "Shadow Word Death" will no longer do damage to the casting priest when resisted.; Priests backlash effect of "Shadow Word: Death" will now properly be applied and can no longer be resisted.
