The Shadowstalkers are spies — whose job description includes assassinations — and are in Northrend by orders of Varimathras.[1] For instance, Shadowstalker Luther was gathering intelligence on some nearby nerubians before he ran into necrolords and had to poison himself rather than be taken as a prisoner. Subsequently, they were fighting the Nerub'ar who were turning Horde soldiers into undead.[2] Shadowstalker Barthus seems to be in charge of the Shadowstalkers in the area.[3]

Notes[]
- In the Deathknell quest [3] Encrypted Scroll, David Trias tells Forsaken rogue player characters that they'll likely be sought out and recruited by the Shadowstalkers when the time is right. However, no Shadowstalkers actually appeared in the game until Wrath of the Lich King. The Deathknell quest was likely intended to actually refer to the more familiar Deathstalkers, who do indeed recruit Forsaken rogues in the later [10] Mennet Carkad questline.
