The Shatterspear tribe split off from the Gurubashi Empire after the defeat of Hakkar the Soulflayer. The various tribes claimed territories in the vast jungles of Stranglethorn Vale but quickly began fighting one another.

The Shatterspear tribe has since settled at the northeast edge of Darkshore, a continent away from Stranglethorn. Highly reclusive and apparently uninterested in claiming further territory, the Shatterspear trolls live in a small village that is almost entirely surrounded by jagged hills. Visiting the secluded village is a difficult endeavor, and a number of adventurers have fallen to their deaths in attempting to scale the steep hills around the Shatterspears' home. Having few connections to the outside world, the Shatterspear spend much of their time dancing and merrymaking. The young female troll Una Ji'ro is the leader of the tribe. She was able to get the Lorekeeper Krah'ranik and the High Priestess and Hexxer Jory Zaga to help her guide and train the troll members of the tribe. Other help comes from the Shadow Hunter Voriya—who will defend the village if the need arises. The other trolls of the tribe are the lesser priests, hexxers and hunters. The tribe mostly live of fish from the little lake in the valley. With the great mountains as defense, the tribes members are safe and can live out their lives in peace.

The trolls' purpose in living here is unknown at this point in time. Certainly it is a strange location for any troll to choose to live: surrounded by mountains and, beyond that, the trolls' ancient enemies: night elves.
