Skinning equipment

The only equipment required for skinning is a skinning knife.

You can boost your skinning skill up to +25 skinning skill by wearing or wielding the proper equipment.

Notes

All classes can wield at least one or the other of Finkle's Skinner or the Zulian Slicer.

A Finkle's Skinner and a Zulian Slicer can be dual wielded for +20 skinning skill, but only by hunters, rogues, and warriors.

The Zulian Slicer is not unique and does not specify a hand, so if you have two Zulian Slicers and you can dual wield swords (same classes), you should be able to dual wield them. Since the Zulian Slicer is a drop, it should be possible to obtain two.

Two Finkle's Skinners cannot be equipped at the same time and dual wielded since Finkle's Skinner is main hand only.

Shamans can dual wield via a talent, but cannot equip the Zulian Slicer, which is a sword, and Finkle's Skinner is main hand only, so shamans cannot dual wield skinning skill bonus blades.

The Enchant Gloves - Skinning enchantment is a permanent enchantment, which means it goes in the permanent enchantment slot of the item, and can be overwritten, but will not go away for any other reason.

Casting this enchantment on a very low level non-binding white or gray quality cloth glove enables the glove to be worn by any character. This will also prevent anyone from accidentally disenchanting the glove. (The materials for the enchantment cannot ever be recovered in any case.)

With the skinning enchantment on gloves, and one of the blades, total bonus to skinning skill is +15, or with all three items it's +25.

Historical note

Prior to World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade The Burning Crusade, skinning some high level beast mobs (over level 61) required a skinning skill of 315. Even a fully skilled skinner (300 skinning skill) needed to have at least two of these bonuses equipped (+15).

The Burning Crusade raises the skill cap to 375, and no similar skill bonus requirement currently exists in the new content.

Patch changes

As of Patch 2.0.1 (12/5/06): both of these blades count as a skinning knife; you do not need to carry a separate one:
