James Hyal (also known as Smiling Jim) is a human who ran the Shady Rest Inn before it was burned to the ground by Grimtotem tauren. His wife and child were killed in the fire and James is reportedly "not the same" since the incident.
He has a brother, Vincent Hyal, in Menethil Harbor whom is unaware of the tragedy of the Shady Rest Inn and sends you to check on James.
With the coming of patch 2.3, the story of Shady Rest Inn finally got an ending.
