The Elven Ranger, Vareesa used this spell to communicate with a pair of gnarled trees. Touching each in turn, the elf could feel their weariness, their readiness to die. Se could also sense some of their history, going far back before the terror of the Horde. After speaking with the trees, using the language of the tree, of all plants, to give them a promise, the trees looked a little straighter. It was believed that her encouragement would be passed on to other trees via the plants communicating.{{Cite|DotD|167}}

Speak with Plants is a druid spell shared by both Druids and Elven Rangers. A caster can comprehend and communicate with plants, including both normal plants and plant creatures. He is able to ask questions of and receive answers from plants. A regular plant’s sense of its surroundings is limited, so it won’t be able to give (or recognize) detailed descriptions of creatures or answer questions about events outside its immediate vicinity. The spell doesn’t make plant creatures any more friendly or cooperative than normal. Furthermore, wary and cunning plant creatures are likely to be terse and evasive, while the more stupid ones may make inane comments. If a plant creature is friendly toward the caster, it may do some favor or service for him.
