RequirementsRegrowth or Rejuvenation on target

Swiftmend is the 31 point talent in the druid Restoration tree, and is an instant emergency heal that requires either Regrowth or Rejuvenation to be active on the target. The spell consumes one heal over time (HoT) effect to instantly heal for an amount based on the healing done by the spell consumed. With the appropriate glyph, Swiftmend can be made to no longer consume any HoT, though it will still require one to be active on the target to be healed.

Notes

  • Swiftmend heals the target for an amount equal to 12 seconds of Rejuvenation or 18 seconds of Regrowth, regardless of how much time the consumed HoT has left. Anything that increases the healing done by those spells will also increase the healing done by Swiftmend.
  • Talents like Improved Rejuvenation thus indirectly increase the healing done by Swiftmend. The talent Nature's Splendor, which increases the duration of both spells, does not however have any effect on the healing done by Swiftmend. As spell power increases the healing done by Regrowth and Rejuvenation, it thus also indirectly increases the healing done by Swiftmend. This includes the bonus gained form Empowered Rejuvenation.
  • If in any case both Rejuvenation and Regrowth are present on the target, the HoT with the least time left will be consumed.
  • A player can consume a Regrowth or Rejuvenation with Swiftmend cast by another druid. The amount of the Swiftmend is determined by the size of the HoT cast by the other druid.
  • The healing done by Swiftmend is base off the HoT (Rejuvenation or Regrowth) with the least time remaining on the target (to include other druids' Rejuvenations and Regrowths, but healing will be based on their HoT). This is intended to make best use of each HoT.
  • Glyph of Swiftmend does not change the proc off shortest HoT mechanic. So, if Rejuvenation does more healing in 12 sec then Regrowth does in 18 sec (as is typically the case), but Regrowth has less time remaining on the target, then Swiftmend will proc off the Regrowth and provide less healing.
  • Glyph of Rapid Rejuvenation does not increase healing done by Swiftmend. The tooltip states that Swiftmend heals the target based on 12 sec of Rejuvenation (or Regrowth which is irrelevant to this Glyph). It would make since that if you had enough haste to effectively tick twice as often that you would double the ticks occurring in that 12 secs, and therefore double the healing done by Swiftmend when proc'ed off of Rejuvenation. However, this is not the case. The true mechanic is based off 4 ticks (12sec*1tick/3sec) of rejuvenation or 6 ticks (18sec*1tick/3sec) of Regrowth.

Improvements

Talents

  • All talents that improve the healing done per tick of Regrowth and Rejuvenation also indirectly improve the healing done by Swiftmend. See the pages for those spells for a complete list.
  • Living Seed causes critical heals from Swiftmend to place a buff on the target, healing for 30% of the critical heal the next time the target takes damage.

Tips and tactics

  • With Glyph of Swiftmend, the spell is no longer only an emergency heal, but can be used at any time for quick instant healing. As the mana cost of the spell is rather low, it actually becomes a fairly mana efficient heal. For this reason, Glyph of Swiftmend is extremely popular among Restoration druids.
  • Swiftmend is one of only two abilities (the other being Nature's Swiftness) available to a druid before level 80 to deliver a quick heal on an ally, which makes it very useful. It can be used either to maintain a tank's hp when he is taking damage faster than your HoT can sustain him, or as last minute save when an ally takes sudden or unexpected damage.
  • Without the glyph, it is preferable to wait until the HoT-to-be-consumed has nearly run out prior to using Swiftmend, so as not to waste potential healing from the HoT's remaining time.
  • In PvP (particularly battlegrounds) this is a great way to save someone when Nature's Swiftness is not ready or you don't wish to expend it. Casting rejuvenate immediately followed by swiftmend will often heal enough to buy one time to stack HoTs on the target.
  • As it is instant, Swiftmend can be cast while moving. As Rejuvenation is also instant, that means you can deliver significant amounts of healing without having to stop. This is great for both escaping from monsters and in PvP, such as for flag running in Warsong Gulch.
  • During fights that tend towards spike damage it may be worthwhile to keep a HoT on individuals who do not need the healing, so that Swiftmend can be cast instantly if they suddenly sustain substantial damage.

Past changes

Patch 1.11 (2006-06-20): This new talent has been added to the Druid Restoration tree, replacing Innervate as the 31 point ultimate talent. It consumes a Rejuvenation or Regrowth aura to produce an instant heal.
