Swimming is an inherent ability of all player characters, and some mobs, which allows one to travel in and under water. Swimming is slower than running, but probably faster than walking.

The Halls of Origination in Uldum is a level-85 five-player dungeon available in World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, featuring an unparalleled journey through the timeless titan construction and seven unique boss fights. Hidden deep within its halls lies an ancient treasure that, if placed in the wrong hands, could endanger all life on Azeroth. Should players survive the perils of Uldum, they will be called to help Brann Bronzebeard unlock the mysteries within these treacherous titan halls and protect the titans' ancient secrets.
When your character is in the water, press the "x" key to dive beneath the water. If the water is too shallow, you will not be able to dive, so simply swim out into the water to a deeper level in order to use this feature. You can hold the left mouse button to look around. You can hold the right mouse button and then move your mouse up and down to change your swim direction. Moving your character forward or backwards will then make them swim in the direction you have chosen. As a ghost, pressing both mouse buttons and angling the camera downward will allow your ghost to swim.

  +
A non-linear dungeon, the Halls' entrance can be found at 72 of eastern Uldum inside the large pyramid.
When under water at any more than very shallow depth, a character begins to run out of breath and may drown. Press the space bar, which enables your character to jump when on land, in order to resurface. You may have to press the space bar several times in order to make it back to the surface (depending on how deeply you have descended), get your head above the water, and allow your character to regain his or her breath. Underwater breathing potions, which allow your character to breathe underwater for as long as 30 minutes or one hour without resurfacing, are available from characters who practice alchemy. These potions come in very handy when attempting a challenging underwater quest (e.g. Deep Ocean, Vast Sea in Darkshore. Whenever you are underwater, swimming too far from shore may cause your character to become fatigued and die if you fail to reach shallower water before the meter runs out. Fatigue can kill your ghost, but this is an acknowledged bug by Blizzard.

Progression
Ways to increase swim speed:

  +
Entering the Halls
* Druids get an Aquatic Form spell that allows them to swim faster than normal while in that form.

  +
You will immediately learn the gravity of your situation in the Maker's Overlook when stumbling over the bodies of those who have entered the Halls of Origination before you, seeking power... and failing. Those who survive beyond the entrance of these ancient corridors will be greeted by Brann Bronzebeard just outside the dungeon's transport system to the upper reaches. It will require more than the guidance of Brann to advance upward, however, as the secrets of these halls must first be unlocked.
* Shamans (at level 28 Water Walking) and priests (at level 34 Levitate) get spells that allow them to walk across the water surface — however, taking damage breaks the spell.

* The hunter travel aspects may increase swim speed very slightly.

* The Azure Silk Belt will give a +15% swim speed buff while worn. The belt is cloth, level 30 and can be manufactured by tailors (175 skill, taught by trainer). Note that the Azure Silk Belt effect does not stack with a Druid's Aquatic Form or the Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza trinket.

* There are Swim Speed Potion available to increase swimming speed for a very brief amount of time (100% speed increase for 20 seconds).

* Hydrocane, a staff from Viscous Fallout, a monster in Gnomeregan, allows underwater breathing while equipped.

* One of the rewards for the Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza weekly contest is a trinket that allows you to turn into a fish (likely comparable to the druid aquatic form but much less silly looking).

  +
Chamber of Prophecy
Additional Notes:

  +
The column-strewn Chamber of Prophecy is truly a testament of time. In a room adorned with the relics of an ancient culture, two arks await investigation, protected by ever-faithful servants. Those who meddle with the titan relics must answer to Temple Guardian Anhuur, the overseer of this chamber and a master of holy magic and devastating hymns.
* Ground mounts are able to swim, although they travel no faster than an unmounted player. Entering water while on a flying mount will dismount the player.

  +
* You can escape combat from some mobs if they can't swim; for example, a wolf.

  +
Tomb of the Earthrager
* You can escape combat from some swimming mobs because they can't leave the water; for example, a threshadon.

  +
Across from the Chamber of Prophecy and just outside the dungeon's walls lies the Tomb of the Earthrager, entrenched within a pyramid sun-scorched and bombarded with sandstorms. Littered with the bones of the long deceased, the tomb waits to collect more unprepared victims. It is, after all, the resting place of Earthrager Ptah. Those who disturb his tomb disrupt an eerily quiet place before Ptah shakes the ground beneath you in a Tumultuous Earthstorm, bringing to life the weathered bones of the deceased and unearthing vile Scarabs.
** In the event of an encounter where you do use the transition between land and sea to break a fight, the mob in question will evade but remain in combat with you. It should, in most cases, reset within a few seconds.

  +
* Some amphibious mobs can pursue from land into the water and swim after you or from water to land and run after you. For example, a murloc.

  +
The Vault of Lights
** Also very notable among amphibious mobs are pirates (such as on ships off the coast of STV or in Deadmines) and the Booty Bay guards.

  +
With walls weighted by priceless titan artifacts, the Vault of Lights will serve as a chamber of punishment for your intrusion. Anraphet, a haunting statue of titan composition, awakens to serve his fellow keepers and eradicate all mortals who enter. Make no mistake: his long slumber will not prevent him from showing absolute wrath.

Seats of the Keepers
Survivors of the halls' depths will gain access to the upper reaches. With help from Brann Bronzebeard, you must uncover the mysteries of Uldum. Your journey will lead you to areas of ultimate consequence: the Seats of Magic, Life, Chaos, and Radiance. Here you will be confronted by the construct of magic Isiset, construct of life Ammunae, construct of chaos Setesh, and construct of radiance Rajh. You will be tested by these constructs of Uldum, who will not easily give up their thrones or the secrets of the titans.
