The World of Warcraft Trading Card Game was released in October 2006 by Upperdeck Entertainment.

Unlike most card games, Upper Deck is working with Blizzard to have some facets of the card game influence cosmetic aspects of the MMORPG by having cards with special codes that alter an online-character's look in some way.

Unlike most TCGs, the game focuses quite a bit on multiplayer. Upperdeck has already released their first two Raid Decks, featuring Onyxia, the Black Dragon and Ragnaros, the Fire Lord. Raid Decks are meant to be tackled by three to five players.

Loot cards

The Normal Sets contain epic cards that are considered extremely rare. Further, these epic cards may be of the "loot" version. Each of these loot cards contains a long hexadecimal code under a scratch-off panel; otherwise they are identical to their normal counterparts. These cards are entered on the Blizzard web site which converts them to a similar code that is specific to the realm of your choice. You then use the code with Landro Longshot, a vendor in Booty Bay, to obtain the item. The codes are single-use, so you get one item on one character on one server for each loot card code you get. You do not get the item on all your characters, unlike the collector's edition pets.

The first set, Heroes of Azeroth, includes three Loot Cards:

The second set, Through the Dark Portal also includes 3 Loot Cards:

The third set, Fires of Outland, has 3 Loot Cards:

The fourth set, March of the Legion, has 3 Loot Cards:

The fifth set, Servants of the Betrayer has 3 loot cards:

The sixth set, Hunt for Illidan has 3 loot cards:

The seventh set, Drums of War has 3 loot cards:
