Weapons[]

Hi, I'm relatively new to Warcraft lore (been playing since Reign of Chaos), and only now am I finding out about hero classes and stuff like that. My main question is, does a Blademaster only use swords? It's just Grom Hellscream was a blademaster, yet he is famously knows for using the axe Gorehowl. So, does the title of Bladmaster mean having a mastery of all weapons, or just of swords?

Uhm... first line of the article says: "The Blademasters are an orc gladiator class who are known for masterfully wielding swords or other weapons on the field of battle." Hope this answers your question :) And even if they lore-wise only used swords, if they ever became a hero class in WoW, of course they could use various kinds of weapons like the other classes, too. Oh dear god, I need my eyes tested!

Sorry for wasting your time, and thanks anyway :)

Thrall a Blade Master?[]

Okay, I know Thrall is a trained veteren in gladiators. He knows how to use any weapon, ie a Blade. But does that make him an actual Blade Master in the Orcish Tradition? I don't think so. I believe he should be removed from the list. --Invin Dranoel14:48, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

I agree, while the rpg may state so, in an orcish sense he is a Shaman not a blademaster.--Gurluas (talk) 16:11, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

He is both things, it appears that there are two types of blademasters, the ones from the burning blade and the gladiators. Thrall and Grom are from the gladiators, while Samuro and others are of the burning blade. Benitoperezgaldos (talk) 16:55, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

Shaman link[]

"They are also skilled, or at least familiar with shamans, their blinding speed is gained from blessings from the spirits." Where is this phrase (and its paragraph) from? I didn't find any mention of this on the web (several sites link to wowwiki/wowpedia), while there's no mention of the supposed spiritual link in the Horde's Player Guide or WoW RPG. --Cemotucu (talk) 15:23, 1 January 2013 (UTC)

It might be a speculative explanation of their wind walk ability. I recall reading something about a link with the spirits, but it might have been just that sentence.--Weasel (talk) 04:48, 2 January 2013 (UTC)

Lore Inaccuracies/Citations Needed/Additions[]

A couple of questions/inaccuracies I noticed in this article:

The blademasters, also known as blade masters, and are known for masterfully wielding swords or other weapons on the field of battle. They were created when the orcs were first corrupted - This seems to be inaccurate. I cannot find a source on this, and the Blademasters seem to have existed far before the Burning Legion came to Draenor; As made evident by the Blademasters in WoD ( the Ancient Blademaster shows they aren't all that new: http://www.wowhead.com/npc=82899/ancient-blademaster ). This also means the Fel Orc Blademaster segment is partially inaccurate, as their purpose does not seem inheritently tied to the Burning Legion. This might just be a piece of outdated lore, but I have not managed to find it in any of Blizz's source material.

Some Blademasters of the Burning Blade seem to be capable of manipulating fire, shown throughout the WoD expansion ( http://www.wowhead.com/npc=84355/drek-the-firecaller ).

There is a Saberon Blademaster in the Tanaan Jungle ( http://www.wowhead.com/npc=92517/krell-the-serene ).

Some notes about Lantresor and his quest chain might be good. http://www.wowhead.com/quest=34849/the-blade-itself http://www.wowhead.com/quest=34955/not-without-my-honor - This is particularly interesting: The blade is not the only important item a blademaster carries. Once he has passed his final tests in the Masters' Caverns, the blademaster is given the honor of wearing the Burning Blade's banner. When my petition to reclaim my rightful place with the clan fell upon deaf and craven ears, I was stripped of that honor. No doubt, my banner has been stored away somewhere in Hallvalor. They'll give it to some other aspiring blademaster if they don't burn it first.

There does not seem to be any indication that Vazruden the Herald is a Blademaster, aside from carrying a large blade.

Fel Orc Blademaster Citation (or lack thereof)[]

I searched for a citation for the following, as it was marked with "citation needed":

"Fel orc blademasters are much more numerous than their noble offshoots. They have fully embraced the purpose of the Legion, and have gladly become what they were intended to be. They are blood-crazed killing machines, who cut down anything in their path. Their battle-fury is both terrible and breathtaking to behold at the same time. They are as agile and unpredictable as the noble blademasters, if not more so, fueled by demonic powers. In battle, they constantly leap around, cleaving the bodies of their victims with swift, sweeping strikes from their brutal, jagged battle-swords. They bathe in blood during battle, roaring with fury and amusement at the slaughter, green fire burning in their eyes."

The only place other than Wowpedia and Wowwiki where I could find this exact text was in the description for a DeviantArt post from 2013, linked below: https://www.deviantart.com/valandy7/art/Fel-Orc-Blademaster-375242520

Given that this would seem to be fairly decent confirmation that this paragraph doesn't appear to have a reliable source, should it be removed? I personally think it should but I wanted to get some kind of outsider opinion before I did so, since I'm very new to this whole thing. Noblecrisp (talk) 00:06, 24 November 2018 (UTC)

It was added on December 24 2006. A quick scan of the RPG books did not find it either. Looks like fan fiction to me. Given it has been unsourced for all that time, I guess it can go. --Mordecay (talk) 00:57, 24 November 2018 (UTC)
