== Attack ==

Ugh. I just experienced a dark iron attack, which was an exercise in bewilderment. I wasn't allowed to attack the dark irons that I was supposed to attack. I randomly got a drunken master buff which made me spin around. It seems like it would be fun if I had any clue what I was supposed to do, but it was super irritating being told to do something that I wasn't allowed to do! Yet another example of *really* poor introductory experiences by blizzard. [[User:JoshuaRodman|JoshuaRodman]] 11:39, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

:Actually, just follow the crowd. People figure these stuff out pretty quick. I was bewildered how everyone was killing those dwarves my 1st time but I enjoyed the chaos anyway. --[[User:InvincNerd|Invin Dranoel]] 13:58, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

::Yeah, I was a bit lost at first too. In order to attack the dark iron party crashers, you need a brew mug from one of the barkers. /wave at one of them, and they'll toss you a mug. Drink it, and you'll toss it, automatically targeting any dark iron dwarves you might be pointed towards. If you're near enough to one of the barkers when you drink the brew, they'll toss you a new one. == Ram Racing lap time formula ==

Every time you deliver a keg you get another 30 seconds. So for n delivered kegs you get <math>30\cdot(n-1)=30\cdot n-30</math> seconds bonus time on the deliveries. Note: The bonus for your last delivered keg doesn't count, since you won't deliver the next one.

Thus, the total time in seconds to deliver n kegs is <math>30\cdot n-30+240 = 30\cdot n + 210</math>, and the average time per keg is <math>30+\frac{210}n</math>. --[[User:Tifi|Tifi]] ([[User talk:Tifi|talk]]) 09:56, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

I wrote a small addon that keeps track of my lap times. The best lap time I had since yesterday was 38.558s (Alliance). Plugging it into the formula, then solving for n yields 24.45 deliveries. 22+ kegs is definitely possible. (My best run so far was 20 deliveries.) == Source for 12-hour ram-racing reset? ==

I'd like to include more information about how and when the semi-daily ram-racing event, which the page calls "Do you have additional work?", resets. The page says it resets every 12 hours, but this is vague, and could mean noon and midnight, or dawn and dusk, or 12 hours from your last turn-in, or anything else. And perhaps it lags for up to an hour on resets, the same way daily quests do... or perhaps it doesn't.

Does anyone have a better source for this, so we can update the page? If not, I'll be editting my observations into the talk page here, so we can figure it out. [[User:ZombiePope|ZombiePope]] ([[User talk:ZombiePope|talk]]) 12:22, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

:Like all other 12hr reset quests I've seen, it resets 12hrs after your last completion; but the only source I can offer is my own observations. {{User:Decibal/Sig}} 02:01, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

I've found this thread on the WoW forums, suggesting it's been moved to an 18-hour reset.

Can anyone confirm? [[User:ZombiePope|ZombiePope]] ([[User talk:ZombiePope|talk]]) 08:11, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

:There's at least one source of dissension there, and mine resets at exactly 12hours as of yesterday. This sounds more like a bug then change to the reset timer. Until either a blue post or more accurate info is available, I recommend leaving it as a 12hr, and suggesting a bug that may cause it to take longer. {{User:Decibal/Sig}} 09:42, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

The page was changed to indicate 18 hours was the norm, despite evidence to the contrary, citing in an inline comment a formula I've never heard of or seen. I changed it to note the 18 hour reset to be a bug until CONCRETE evidence indicates otherwise. {{User:Decibal/Sig}} 01:16, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

: The change wasn't mine. Regardless, saying 12 hours is "intended" is a bit much; there's no evidence for that either. How about we just say there's conflicting evidence for 12- vs. 18-hour resets? This is true, and doesn't assume anything. Also, if there are other 12-hour resets in the game, we could make a page listing them and link to it off Brewfest to describe the mechanic in general. We could also see if this 12/18 confusion applies to all these resets, or only Brewfest rams. What were some of the others? [[User:ZombiePope|ZombiePope]] ([[User talk:ZombiePope|talk]]) 09:20, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

:Unfortunately, I can't recall another one off hand, however I'll do some poking around and get back to you. I do know that it reset after 12h last year, and for me and a couple of guildies at least, it still does. {{User:Decibal/Sig}} 22:59, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

18h should be correct. I just checked, and the reset was 18*60*60±5 seconds after I accepted the quest, on two different chars (according to my addon, RamRacingRecords). It's also not a real quest, you can't complete it. It's more like an event you can start manually. Decibal, what did you mean by completion? Losing the buff? And what makes you think it's a 12h reset time? --[[User:Tifi|Tifi]] ([[User talk:Tifi|talk]]) 14:38, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

:I guess that is kinda unclear. I think of starting the event and getting the buff as 'completion' in the same way that completing {{quest|Insult Coren Direbrew}} starts the fight. My reason for thinking it's a 12h reset is that that's what it was last year, that's what it is for me and a couple others this year, and while I know there are a couple other 'non-quests' like this one I don't have them memorized, so I'll report back after I remember what they are. {{User:Decibal/Sig}} 22:59, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

== Ram Racing max time ==

Today I managed to deliver 23 kegs (yay!), but the weird thing is that the last lap ended after only 7.9s. I definitely delivered the 23rd keg, but apparently I didn't get the 30s bonus for that keg. The ram buff ended exactly after 15m (15m0s176ms), which is 4m+22*30s. So I assume that 15m is the maximum race time. Here's a [[media:Rrr23.jpg|Screenshot collage]] showing the chat output of RamRacingRecords. --[[User:Tifi|Tifi]] ([[User talk:Tifi|talk]]) 11:33, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

: Correction: I just did it again, another 23 keg run. You actually get the bonus time for the 23rd keg, *but* the ram buff still ends after a total of 15m. My explanation is that they didn't want people to be able to get an infinite number of tokens. If someone somehow managed to get lap times below 30s, she could race on and on forever. So implementing a max. time makes sense. [[User:Tifi|Tifi]] ([[User talk:Tifi|talk]]) 14:01, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

:: After a total of 4 23-keg-runs I'm pretty certain now that 15 minutes is indeed the max duration. When I complained to a GM about the buff being cancelled after 15m, he told me something like "To me it sounds like this is the limit. I'm sure the buff was not intended to stack an infinite amount of times." The conversation was in German, but I could provide a screenshot. Anyways, I put it in the article now. == 15/23 != Infinite ==

There are a few references to the keg runs potentially being infinite if you were able to do them in 30 seconds or less each... Yet there is also a statement which says that you can only do 23 runs, regardless of your speed, because the buff will stop after 15 minutes.

I'm not sure which is correct, as I have never gotten to the 15 minute mark... But I think either one or the other should be used, rather than both - since they cannot both be true. {{User:Semantic/Sig}} 21:42, September 23, 2009 (UTC)

:You're right, it should probably be cleaned up. The general idea is, since no one has a stopwatch in game (that I'm aware of) we're not sure ''exactly'' what the fastest run is. It would only be infinite ''if'' you could do a 30 second run, but you can't. {{User:Howbizr/sign}} 3:35 PM, 24 Sep 2009 (EDT)

A pygmy cockatrice

Cockatrice

A traditional cockatrice

Cockatrices are apparently small chickens found on Azeroth, thus far only represented by the Pygmy Cockatrice.

Speculation

Questionmark-medium
This article or section includes speculation, observations or opinions possibly supported by lore or by Blizzard officials. It should not be taken as representing official lore.

This may be the Darkmoon Faire's attempt at passing an ordinary chicken off as the more traditional mythical beast.

Cockatrices and blood elves

Cockatrice was also going to be the name for the blood elf racial mount, but due to the word's unfortunate coincidental similarity to a vulgar slang term, the name was changed to the Hawkstrider.

Between Blizzard's tendency to put their own spin on myths and traditional fantasy — and the high elven love of grace and beauty — it is no mystery why these scaly monsters were reinvented for their new incarnation.

Trivia

In classical representations, cockatrices look like a mixture of a rooster and a dragon or snake, as seen in the picture to the right.

Depending on which source is used, the cockatrice is sometimes another name for the basilisk. See Myth for more information.
