Bird!

-OwlBoy 11:21, 12 August 2006 (EDT)

Yes, if people are right about the BElves sharing the immaturity of the NElves, and their penchant for cybering, I can't wait to see a BElf after a long naked dancing spree on the Orgrimmar mailbox "mounting up her cock". Whee. -- Omacron

I'm just going to mention that I'd rather we didn't turn this into a race-bashing wiki. People are free to choose whatever characters they wish, and let's not sterotype them before we even get started. -- Kirkburn 15:22, 12 August 2006 (EDT)
Hey, I'm planning on rolling a BE paladin anyway, I'm just saying... I think Blizz is telling us something about the elves. Remember all those comments during E3 and that interview with their dance? -- Omacron
I'm rolling a BE pally. I loved High/Blood Elves ever since WarCraft, and I like playing Paladins in WoW. I also want to play on the Horde. Put those together. -- Kanaru 17:40, 15 August 2006 (EDT)

DUDES! CHOCOBOS! WARK! It's a old-school gamer's dream come true. :D Pzychotix 06:24, 13 August 2006 (EDT)

So, this raises the question- will there be more XxSeppirothxX-es than Leggolazzsx-es? Omacron
According to the "leaked" Alpha info found on many forums, one of the BE hairstyle is based on Legolas. And since BE can be hunters, I'd say there will still be more Leggolazzsx than anything else =) As a side note, I think it's sad to see how the elf races in WoW are labelled with such hate. I for one will roll a BE mage, even if I already have a 60 human mage. I hope that the rest of the Horde won't throw hate at every BE player. If Alliance has some whiners, Horde really has a bunch of elitist hypocrits. And for having played on both sides, I can't say that I found the Horde especially friendly or the Alliance a bunch of "leet kids". Of course, I play on a RP server, so things might be a bit different. But I do think that all the hate is exaggerated. --DarthMuffin 11:51, 27 August 2006 (EDT)
I would not worry too much about it. There will always be idiots in the world, but the sane (ususally) outnumber them :) I'm most certainly going to play a BE along with my draenei :) -- Kirkburn 13:39, 27 August 2006 (EDT)

PictureEdit

How can that be of a cockatrice, a LAND mount, if it has no legs? Omacron

The more I compare that picture to the WC3 Dragonhawk, the more I am convinced it is a Dragonhawk. Despite this possible relation between dragonhawks and cockatrices, I think the pic should be removed and added to the Dragonhawk page. --Adonzo 04:04, 16 August 2006 (EDT)
Well I'm glad I wasn't the only one who found it looked rather ... er ... dragonhawky :P -- Kirkburn 07:08, 16 August 2006 (EDT)
To me it looks rather... silithid-ish. Like some kinda outlandish butterfly. I mean, Dragonhawks at least had feathers, not... membrane. Omacron

Dragonhawks are described as having talons in their page. Pzychotix 13:02, 20 August 2006 (EDT)

Know what I think it is? I think it's a couatl that the naga brought over and has been affected by fel magic. --Kakwakas 02:44, 21 August 2006 (EDT)
I like couatl, makes more sense. Either way though, it is not a cockatrice. --Adonzo 16:30, 21 August 2006 (EDT)

Okay, now someone added a picture with the caption "A cockatrice in-game" -- but I highly doubt this is a cockatrice either. It looks like a Phoenix for one thing. For another, it has no legs! To prevent more false rumors from spreading, we ought to remove that pic. --Tuhljin 13:10, 26 August 2006 (EDT)

Well, by some means all WoWikians should forsake, paying a look at the Worldofwar forums and looking for the topic called "cockatrice pictures" (don't do this, it'd be evil) will show the meanest members the Alpha-leaked pictures which I absolutely don't know why know they show Chocobo-like red-an-greenish striders. So, maybe no picture here displays the truth.--Kirochi 11:47, 19 September 2006 (EDT)
Very true Kirochi. Until there is an official picture given out by Blizzard nothing should be taken on face value. Often very much those pictures are made by the player and not Blizzard. There are Alpha pictures, but even those shouldn't be trusted because it is easy to doctor images there as well. One in particular I would like to point at as being it, but being that it is a an supposted Alpha Image I have to remain skeptical of it being true. I'll wait like everyone until I start pointing fingers at what the mount truely is. Edit: I would say this though. Check the sections below for the pictures. I wasn't the one who posted them so I won't take responsibility for the leaking of Alpha pictures.--Drakonluther 13:08, 19 September 2006 (EDT)
I don't mind links too much, just don't upload them is what I say :) -- Kirkburn (talk) 15:48, 19 September 2006 (EDT)
We are just helping Blizzard finding where the pictures come from and tha we aren't submitting them, and besides we may answer WoWwikians' questions by giving them a source of information, legal or not. What's under a link is its owner responsibility.-- Kirochi (talk) 21:54, 19 September 2006
All very good points. I will then post this image here. It is now the responsibility of the the site who posted it in the first place. http://www.wowguru.com/gallery/files/be-mount-id1664/ Personally I think this might be the real deal, but even then it is just a personal belief and crossing of fingers, because I love the grin on the creatures face. It is so appropriate to the nature of Blood Elves. Oh also it is kind of Chocobo-like (not really if you really look at it. It is more Plainstrider.) which makes my final fantasy fan side happy. :-)--Drakonluther 15:08, 19 September 2006 (EDT)
I don't know how to do this, but someone needs to remove that image from the front page of the Cockatrice section. The one of the Epic Mount. No pictures from Alpha can be posted on the site. So those who do know how to remove it, please do. Thanks. --Drakonluther 23:36, 19 September 2006 (EDT)
Found A picture if guys wanna see not sure if it will be the same as the release. cockatrice_elite.jpg --Malexe

Young Dragonhawk?Edit

Someone posted on wow forums:

I read in a Rpg book that cockatrice's where young dragonhawks used for ground support. I think it was " warcraft lands of chaos" or somthing like that.

It intrigued me, above anything else it actually makes sense. Anyone can confirm?--Nea 12:10, 20 August 2006 (EDT)

Well it's highly plausible, given that dragonhawks did come with the Blood Elves (unit wise) in the W3 Expansion. Pzychotix 13:00, 20 August 2006 (EDT)

Uh, yeah. It says that in the article already ... -- Kirkburn 14:56, 20 August 2006 (EDT)
Well, given that knowledge I would remove the art on the article, it's very unlikely that it's cockatrice (since it's missing feathers and, most of all, legs), I've seen this picture being posted on you tube and wow forums a few times as THE cockatrice in BC already ...--Nea 18:57, 20 August 2006 (EDT)
Chances are it will turn out being the land version of dragonhawks, as people have said, and perhaps the dragonhawks will be a flying mount. racial flying mount, not just the wyvern/bat we have now. wyvern for orcs, bat for undead, different kind of bat for trols (they looked way different in wc3x), dragonhawk for be and i have no idea for tauren. gnomes would get...who knows, dwarves in their gyrocopters maybe, humans gryphons (as the dwarves we play arent aerie peak dwarves, they dont have a kinship with gryphons) hips for ne, and draenei something naaru-like i guess.--Haddon 20:13, 10 September 2006 (EDT)
I saw a picture of a supposed Cockatrice on a site, and it looked a lot like a Pheonix, with smaller wings, and looked more like a rittite-type of bird (flightless). Perhaps it is a young pheonix, not dragonhawk, we will be riding around.--Haddon 20:19, 13 September 2006 (EDT)
@Haddon: The gyrocopter is a gnomish invention. ;D I think dragonhawks for the BE taxi mount is enough to hope for... Blizz hasn't mentioned much about the Outland flying mounts. It'd be nice, though. --Kakwakas 16:34, 23 September 2006 (EDT)
Gnomish invention, yes, but ridden by the dwarves during the third war. They were well known for riding these, and steamtanks, and the IF dwarves are known to be nearly as good with technology as the gnomes themselves, and have since started producing them as well as other machines--Haddon 22:54, 23 September 2006 (EDT)

IdeaEdit

How about instead of all this speculation of the pic, how about we just take a random picture off the intarwebs. Does wikipedia have a picture of a cockatrice? At this point, even taking a picture of a chocobo (:D) would probably be closer to the real thing than what we have now. Pzychotix 11:44, 21 August 2006 (EDT)

True. However, since it's going around everywhere, we should still have a 'debunk' here, I think. The linked wikipedia article has a picture of a 'real' cockatrice. -- Kirkburn 13:39, 21 August 2006 (EDT)
Someone added a pic from Wikipedia and removed the almost-certainly-NOT-the-land-mount pic we've had, then a short time later someone else put the concept art pic there again stating that it IS the Blood Elf mount. I had to add debunk text to the caption again; feel free to change the language to make it more strong, as this rumor needs to be quashed - I just didn't want to go overboard in my choice of words. -- Tuhljin 5:34, 23 August 2006 (EDT)
Indeed - we need the debunk, otherwise people will continue to not think critically and spread incorrect rumours :) -- Kirkburn 07:19, 23 August 2006 (EDT)

Where are the pictures? Edit

What happened to the pictures? Did they get deleted? Did they get moved? We had a couple of dead image links but I commented them out for now. So..... what happened? Pzychotix 19:25, 29 August 2006 (EDT)

Here's what happened, I'm guessing: Burning Crusade DMCA Takedown Notice -- Tuhljin 22:42, 29 August 2006 (EDT)
Ah. Ok then. Sounds reasonable. But... what about that debunk cockatrice picture? That's a concept artwork and isn't covered by the notice (notice covers only screenshots from the alpha). I still think we should have that as a debunk. Pzychotix
I'm not sure why that one has gone as well :/ If someone wants to add the concept art picture for debunk, go ahead. -- Kirkburn (talk) 04:50, 30 August 2006 (EDT)
D: I can't find that picture any more... Hum. Pzychotix 07:34, 30 August 2006 (EDT)

Pygmy Cockatrice = a joke Edit

For the peace of mind of Shandris and anybody else who mistook my reasons for posting the picture in question, I just want to make it clear that I don't really believe there's any possibility that the full-sized cockatrice will look like that Darkmoon Faire chicken. I included it partly to be funny, and partly because people wanted a picture of a "cockatrice", and technically, it is a "cockatrice." :p --Illidan Rocks 11:54, 14 September 2006 (EDT)

I want it to stay, and I've added a smiley at the end to suggest "this isn't entirely serious, guys" :) -- Kirkburn (talk) 12:20, 14 September 2006 (EDT)
Yeah, I noticed that and I appreciate it. I should've thought of it myself. Thank you. ^_^ --Illidan Rocks 12:48, 14 September 2006 (EDT)

Wrong So Far Edit

Pretty sure that none of these drawings on the main page are a cockatrice. I really think it's a young, flightless dragonhawk. --Xmuskrat 09:08, 18 September 2006 (EDT)

Useful link ;) The artwork on the right is a classical cockatrice - it's the best representation we are allowed to present on the wiki at present. For the concept art on the left I've restored a previous description it took to show that it isn't a cockatrice. -- Kirkburn (talk) 10:30, 18 September 2006 (EDT)
Yeah, thats the best way to do it. --Xmuskrat 14:02, 20 September 2006 (EDT)

In Latest Alpha Edit

Yes, the models are out in Alpha now. Edgy red chocobos with some blue and purple rainbow type colorations and some slight reptilian qualities, and glowing golden eyes. Look pretty cool, I say. Shouldn't be too hard to find pics anymore.

I'd say you can go ahead and cull the wrong info from this article. Also, I'm almost 100% sure that concept art is actually a Dragonhawk, as it looks really close to their BC model. Suzaku 15:15, 18 September 2006 (EDT)

I got a picture of it!!!!! Edit

YESSS!!!!

but how to upload?--Didigo10

  1. For god's sake DON'T UPLOAD IT ! WE'VE BEEN TELLING ALL OF YOU THAT THIS BEHAVIOR IS SLOWLY MAKING THE WIKI THE SOURCE OF POTENTIAL PROBLEMS FOR BLIZZARD AND THEREFORE THEY WILL SUE US ! NEVER EVER POST ALPHA-LEAKED PICTURES !!!
  2. Don't forget to take a towel ! Er, I mean, sign your posts ...--Kirochi (talk) 09:17, 20 September 2006 (EDT)
Quite a few of us have seen the pictures, and ill say they are pretty lame. honestly, i did about 10 min of snooping on 1 of the BIG name sites to find it, so you can too. Everyone is smart with it, and they rarely front-page these things, so look around on forums all over the net (thats the reason i think worldofraids is no longer a loving mistress, bliz was pissed). look around, and you can find the pictures, as well as many, many others (bout 150 i saw)--Haddon 21:05, 20 September 2006 (EDT)
I'm going to say this to people who like to post links to pictures on the main page, don't. Please do not put any links to said pictures on the front page or create mini pages like some of you have been doing. Posting the links here is one thing because this is a discussion forum, but posting them on the front page is a no-no. Such things if Blizzard finds out can get Wowwiki sued, seeing as the links are to these mini sites that people keep creating. I don't know about linking to outside sources, but seeing one such link was deleted earlier it can also be said they must be removed as well. Just as Kirochi has said, do not do it. If you are so looking for them check any links in the discussion forums here or go searching them yourself, it isn't that hard really. Thank you and have a cookie. *puts out a plate of cookies.* --Drakonluther 07:51, 21 September 2006 (EDT)
considering blizzard, i doubt they would sue, with how many sites there are out there with the pictures on them, but better to be safe than sorry.
No, they wouldn't sue unless the site failed to respond to a DMCA takedown notice. But self-policing will make it much easier on the site so they don't need to deal with the legal issues involved with receiving and responding to the DMCA takedown notices. -- Jaxdahl 19:31, 21 September 2006 (EDT)
