Independants?

If its for independant factions why are the Fastriders and Spellbreakers in it? Zarnks 23:39, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

The trainwreck that is the affiliation with the Horde aside, the Blood Elves are independent. --Super Bhaal 05:07, 20 August 2007 (UTC)
Its also set pre-TBC most likely (maybe around the time Ghostlands (book) took place). As in before the blood elves joined the Horde. As for "Farstriders" where have you heard that info? Its not mentioned in Monster Guide.Baggins 01:53, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

Oh I got the info here.[1] Zarnks 05:20, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

PDF?

I read somewhere on the White Wolf boards ( well, okay. The World of Warcraft board. ) that Dark Factions might come out as a PDF. This statement wasn't made by a moderator, nor was it made by a White Wolf employee, but I guess that's food for thought...as well, some believe the release of an unofficial netbook ( Even More Magic & Mayhem ) might be some of the employees' way of saying, "sorry, game over". As earlier said, though, food for thought. Until then, goodbye Azeroth, hello Faerûn. --Super Bhaal 21:54, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

I believe the PDF rumor was started somewhere over on White Wolf Forums by a fan discussing an alternative for getting the book. It was apparently based on White Wolf's previously released book, Monster Guide Web Supplement which was sold rather than given out for free (as was implied it would be by Monster Guide). At the time of the release of that book members were giving several explanations as to why they chose that pattern, as I recall these included having to cover the cost of releasing it, and experimenting with the idea of future web only, pay content.
Unfortunately as of yet, no one at Whitewolf is talking. We don't much about what happened to MagusRogue after he lost his job at White Wolf. I'm unclear if he got his job back or got a new job elsewhere.Baggins 22:57, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
It's available in pdf, I bought it already from drivethrurpg.com.--Morgaur (talk) 14:16, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

Not Cancelled?

Came across this today: http://forums.white-wolf.com/viewtopic.php?t=65892

The info in EMM&M is not at all similar to that in Dark Factions.

Dated November 1st, 2007. EMM&M simply refers to the unofficial fan-made PDF suppliment Even More Magic & Mayhem. This is the first time Luke has posted since September, and it seems he confirms that Dark Factions is indeed still in development. Someone may want to update the page with this info. --WarlockSoL 20:55, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

Ooh, good news (hopefully)! Kirkburn  talk  contr 21:16, 2 November 2007 (UTC)
I thought EM&M was being made by one or two WW employees as well? I swear I saw MagusRogue saying it had something to do with it... --Super Bhaal 01:08, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
Magus Rogue is involved, yes. If he is still an employee at this point is unclear.Baggins 01:53, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
Teron Salsa says: "Adam "MagusRogue" Loyd is just AWOL, he had some financial problems hence he needed to go for dial-up connection. That is why you haven't seen him lately on the forums. Not to mention the fact that he just had twins and has to take care of them for now on.
The only thing left to say is, a dark cloud is overflying the WoW line. And we don't know if it will ever go away."
...my condolences for having to use dial-up. Poor soul. --Super Bhaal 03:54, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
Magus admitted he lost his job (or actually he said "Out of work"), the link is in the warcraft rpg article. He got it back? That's good to hear.Baggins 03:57, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
I'm not too sure if he did or didn't, I just registered so I could read the "you suck for making us pay for the Monster Guide supplement you bad people" thread, then decided to stick around for fan-made house rules and release information. --Super Bhaal 05:03, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
And a quote today from Luke Johnson of potential relevance: "Yeah, unfortunately there's not really anything I can say about DF at this moment... except that maybe in the next couple months I *will* be able to give you some real info. =P
I know, it frustrates me, too."
Source thread.
Thread about Dark Factions in which we beg for information and speculate at a fourth edition release.
Pretty much everyone's got the same theory: the devs at Blizzard wanted to implement some new, EXCITING mechanic into the online game for Death Knights ( as compared to mixing warriors and warlocks with a dash of paladin ), the devs at White Wolf need to wait for Blizzard's final say on that system so they can translate it into d20 rules. There's also the matter of lore for the Death Knights, and the millions of other books they have to write.
I'd like to complain, but trying to translate things like that into a d20-friendly format is time consuming, and like the one poster said, "if they were killing the line they'd have announced such". --Super Bhaal 18:04, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
Even more quotes, this one from member Teron Salsa: "What part of "the book is done" that you guys don't understand?
The line is just frozen for the moment, if you don't see news about the book is cause the company won't release it for whatever reason they have.
Given the long time this has been taking, it is probable that either WW or Blizzard don't wanna "shit or get off the pot" (courtersy of Dante Hicks).
Blizzard has massive amounts of lore that are needed for the RPG however they don't like the idea of releasing it before it shows up on the MMORPG.¹
And not talking about WW itself but also Arthaus (as I mentioned before) have some lines that met similar fates, take Big Eyes Small Mouth 3rd edition (for you anime aficcionados) is currently in the fridge too. Look I'm not closely related to white wolf or any other RPG company in north america but let's think logically. You already have different takes in the medieval fantasy area all over the market, hell your company itself does have a few of its own. They are all more profitable then this "childish" (most hardcore D&D players think this about wow) RPG, however the game currently does have a popular scope worldwise, more than 50% of this public is not into roleplaying so maybe... maybe, this game is not as a good-seller as we thought, it gets worse when you can't lay out all the possible info into the world because of the afore mentioned reason.
So those are the possible options you have for the delay in my humble opinion.

tl;dr: It's been published, the copies are in warehouses, but they have to hold them back because they didn't think before announcing the new book and just when they were about to WotLK was announced and both companies thought it unwise to reveal that much lore before it happened. --Super Bhaal
there is also a bit of an issue that any Tuskarr information it was to release was going to have them as "independent" faction, it is the "independent sourcebook" essentially. They may have to fix that with the knowledge of the Horde/Tuskar alignment. Same goes for any blood elf information.--Baggins 10:23, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
Erm, i fail to see any evidence of this? Your link has no relevance to the topic :S -- Zeal (T/C)  10:41, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
The posts are at the bottom of the topic. I just further interpreted them. --Super Bhaal 13:30, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
No? I'm refering to "It's been published, the copies are in warehouses, but they have to hold them back because they didn't think before announcing the new book and just when they were about to WotLK was announced and both companies thought it unwise to reveal that much lore before it happened." specifically. If you're using the link for any of the above, then can you fix the indenting to show it was all written by you. Either way, the topic still has nothing blue on the subject, and only 1 random post at the end of the topic, not at the page your provided, which has no significance at all.
Not trying to be an ass, just seriously confused as to what's being used a basis here, as right now it seems this doesn't have a leg to stand on and was pulled out of thin air. -- Zeal (T/C)  16:56, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
http://forums.white-wolf.com/viewtopic.php?t=65892&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15 < --- Teron Salsa is being used as a basis. Its posts make the most sense, and therefore I prefer those. --Super Bhaal 18:04, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
It makes sense on a certain level, but it seems its also more or less speculation. Which most of this discussion is currently.Baggins 18:06, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
That's what Teron said: speculation. --Super Bhaal 18:17, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
Oh, hey, guess what guys! According to a post made by Luke Johnson about two hours ago today, Dark Factions will be coming out in June 2008. This might or might not be old news, but after all this navel-gazing we've been doing over whether or not the book would actually be released I thought it'd be nice for us all to get a breath of fresh air and know that it will be coming out. --Super Bhaal 19:59, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

A change of publisher?

In november 2006, White Wolf has merged with Gaming Industry Innovators CCP, publisher and developer of EVE Online.[2] Arthaus being a division of White Wolf, rumors says Blizzard would be in talks to find a new publisher for its RPG line, but this has yet to be confirmed.

I removed the above from the article because it seems to have no bearing on the topic, especially being based on rumours. Kirkburn  talk  contr 00:58, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

Table of Contents

http://forums.white-wolf.com/viewtopic.php?t=72254 < ---- While I leapt out of my skin at "Tuskarr", "Shadowmage", "Death Knight", and "Nerubian", I'd be lying if I didn't say I was disappointed to see nothing at all about blood elves or draenei.
/wrist --Super Bhaal 00:36, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
Wasn't there rumors that that written blood elf content was removed due to updated info from TBC release causing the content to be outdated (with the orignal plan for the book to be released before TBC)? Originally the blood elf content was planned to be included as if all blood elves were all neutral faction as they were in the previous warcraft RPG books (which are all set pre-TBC).
Also as I recally that was part of the reason why the decided not to create any draenei content as well. Though of course some references to future blood elf content is made in previously released book, "Monster Guide" but perhaps some of that stuff is being saved for something else?--Baggins 19:33, 30 April 2008 (UTC)19:33, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
About the Blood Elves, the book only speaks about the Farstriders in the "Factions" chapter. It does however talk of Halduron Brightwing as the faction leader, and Brann Bronzebeard mentions a rumor about Sylvanas Windrunner being in contact with Blood Elf leaders. Quoted from the book:
'Then again, I’ve heard some disturbing rumors. While fighting in the Eastern Plaguelands, I heard something disturbing. Sylvanas is in communication with the blood elves these days. Rumor has it that Sylvanas is offering assistance to the blood elves, and that it looks more and more possible that the blood elves will join the Horde. I don’t know how the Farstriders are going to take working alongside trolls. The future will tell, I suppose.'--Morgaur (talk) 14:32, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

Release date

Well the release date has offically come. Anyone have any idea when it might be up on drivethrurpg?Tweak the Whacked (talk) 16:34, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

"The book was released on May 14 2008."

If yesterday was the release day, and it was supposed to have been released, why does it still say preorder on Whitewolf store's website?Baggins (talk) 21:02, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Someone at whitewolf got lazy?Tweak the Whacked (talk) 21:04, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Sigh, unfortunately I won't be seeing the hardcover for a while. I don't want to have too many books with me at University. I ordered it but have it sent to my house. I'm going to get the PDF for my use at University however. I hope the pdf comes out soon. Anyone who has it already, did new languages get introduced for the new player race/creatures?Baggins (talk) 21:20, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Seems amazon does have it so i should be getting it shortly.Warthok Talk Contribs 21:24, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Answering to Baggins: there are no new languages introduced; languages for the new player race/creatures have the name of the race.--Morgaur (talk) 14:24, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
Umm, your being ab it misleading... likely unintentionally... With the exception of nerubians and tuskarr, most of the races previously had, unique languages or shared languages with similar races, or standard common/low common languages, like the Naga's Nazja, and all dragon related species had "Draconic". Murlocs speak Nerglish, or Murloc depending on the source (so not expecting anything new there). Sea Giants likely should be speaking Titan, not expecting anything new there. Flamewakers spoke the elemental language, Kalimag, if they speak a Flamewaker language in the book, then it would be a new language. Dark Iron Dwarves spoke Dwarven if they have anything such as "Dark Iron Dwarven" then it would be a new language :p...
Satyr shared Eredun language for being demons. If Satyr have a Satyr language that would mean its a brand new language introduced in this book never mentioned before. Pandaren used to speak Common as their main language, if they have a Pandaren language now that would mean a brand new language. Quilboar spoke low common previously, if they have a Quilboar language then it would be a new language.
Please, I'd like a clarification.Baggins (talk) 19:49, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
