Talk:Formulas:Downranking

From WoWWiki

Jump to: navigation, search

Originally, there had been a blue post saying the downranking penalty was (level of next rank learned + 5) / caster level, which worked fine as long as the spells were learned every 6 levels (since that would equate to spell level + 11). However, paladin healing spells are 8 levels apart (with a few at odd levels), and this formula was noticeably flawed. Based on testing of all ranks of Flash of Light and Holy Light as a 70 paladin, my results clearly show that the correct formula is (spell level + 11) / caster level. Laymen's terms.

It'd be awfully nice if the people who make these incredibly complicated and long equations would put a feasible example in there, instead of an example that again, uses said equations.

An example should show what the outcome is, not just the math.

I wanna see an example of if I have 500 +heal gear and I'm using rank 4 Lesser healing wave, what penalty I'd get. Not just some multiplier I'd have to use in my own equation to find out the result. Cause none of these posts give definitive answers. Like, if in general, downranking is good. Or if no, the penalty is too harsh. Or if Ice Shards is basically a good thing, or if it's a waste of talents. Cause, no matter what, anything can be a waste if you miss too much, so there's no help in saying that. Or anything like that...

Sorry, but not everyone knows how to do 17 part equations.

How To

This is all well and good to describe what downranking IS. However, its not very good at explaining how one DOES downrank in the case of a macro for example. Its one thing to drag a lesser ranked spell from your spellbook, but in all honesty most people are going to want to know how to do it in a macro. (Which is what I was looking for when I looked for downranking) If there isn't another page I just missed that explains this that can be linked, this would be a handy feature.

The correct way to do it (as I understand is to use "/cast SPELLNAME(Rank #)" in the cast line. Trilless (talk) 21:03, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
