This is likely an item based on the 2008 Olympics, being held in China. This would explain why it summons an asiatic dragon and the item itself is a Gold Medal As such, it'll probably only be available for a little while.- Sedron

How random is this thing and how long does it last?Edit

I've won 7 WSGs in a row and I haven't gotten a single dragon. How rare is this thing? And it does last till the end of the Olympics right?  IconSmall HighElf Male Mr.X8 Talk Contribs 00:06, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

1 in 10 chance, if no one in your group has the Gold Medallion, however, if lets say 6 people have it (and you're in a 10 man BG) you have a 1 in 4 chance of getting it... if you win of course. User:Coobra/Sig3 01:36, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

Do I still have time?  IconSmall HighElf Male Mr.X8 Talk Contribs 01:57, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

The Olympics just started so wouldn't you have all the time while the Olympics are still on? Or did this event start already on WoW before the Olympics?  Rolandius Paladin (talk - contr) 02:03, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
The in-game event lasts until Aug 24. User:Coobra/Sig3 02:07, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
I think that is around the time the Olympics will end.  Rolandius Paladin (talk - contr) 02:09, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
That is correct, the RL event also ends on the 24th. User:Coobra/Sig3 02:13, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
Let the games begin.  Rolandius Paladin (talk - contr) 02:18, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
Interesting, I've gotten the medal on two differant chars the first time. I though you just got it everytime you won. Aliron (talk) 16:30, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
The plural of anecdote is not data, but I did one winning WSG (figuring that it would be fastest), and got a medallion, where a friend had been doing AV all day and didn't get one. If Coobra is right, it sounds like WSG is your best bet. --Azaram (talk) 07:27, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

Actually not really. I won 6 WSGs, lost one and still no medal (however I did get my tabard after my first game, which I lost). Was about win my eigth when I had to see my Grandmother, who was sick. I had complained after round winning my fifth that I had no medal, however when I got home 2 hours later, the dragon was in the mail and the GM & I unfortunately had our time wasted.  IconSmall HighElf Male Mr.X8 Talk Contribs 20:50, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

1 in 10 win = 9 in 10 you lose. There is no guarantee you get one at all; a friend of mine spent the entire event trying to get one on one of his characters, and never did. Three of his OTHER ones did, though... --Azaram (talk) 01:08, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

FWIW, I've gotten the Gold medallion on several characters, and it took at most two wins. (only counting wins up to when the medallion is mailed, since wins beyond that will not earn an additional medallion) My track record is roughly 5 medals in 7 wins. I started pursuing getting them fairly late in the 2008 Olympics, maybe that helped my odds. I'm estimating that the odds of getting a medal at this point are 50% or better per win, and you should be getting a medal on an average of two wins or less, rarely needing more than six wins. Or I got very lucky. Madkaugh (talk) 02:43, 23 August 2008 (UTC)

Speculation: Blizzard is going to hold the 'Spirit of Competition' every every two years during the Summer and Winter Olympic events. This year, the first time they held it, the reward is themed for the country hosting the event. It seems likely that they will continue to have host-themed rewards for these events. Well London might be a bit hard to do.  IconSmall HighElf Male Mr.X8 Talk Contribs 01:43, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

I don't remember where or why, but the animal I most commonly see associated with England is the bulldog. I think it was due to Winston Churchill's resemblance to one during WWII... Another common one is a lion. Possibly a tiny version of one or the other of those? I'd love to have a midget lion running around with my druid... --Azaram (talk) 02:06, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
