Application

I would like to join the watchdogs but the application doesn't make much sense to me. Could you please help me? BobNamataki (talk) 16:25, October 6, 2009 (UTC)

Why on earth

is 100+ patch templates better than one? That is a maintenance nightmare. Please stop and explain why this is better before making hundreds of edits. /chomp‎ Howbizr(t·c) 4:41 PM, 6 Oct 2009 (EDT)

I don't see the maintenance nightmare, could you please elaborate? I.e. what kind of maintenance do you envision to needing to be done on old patch note templates? The date and patch numbers aren't likely to change.
I've posted a more thorough discussion than above at Category talk:Patch templates; I invite you to reply there. --◄mendel► 17:09, October 6, 2009 (UTC)
I need to appologize to both of you for getting overly emotional, but I really thought Pcj with his 45k+ edits would know better than to encourage the use of duplicate code in such an overt way, when we've been actively removing similar instances. For example, we use to have {{friendly}}, {{unfriendly}}, etc instead of just {{reputation}}, as well as {{poor}}, {{uncommon}}, {{common}} etc instead of {{quality}}, and many other examples exist.
But to generally answer your question here since you asked, you do it for the changes you haven't thought of so it will be easy in the future. After coding for about 10 years and 2 of those in wiki language (it's not really any different), I really appreciate that kind of forethought.
I'm confident whatever features your templates have can be incorporated into the existing {{patched}} template without the need of and additional 100+ templates, where one would do. /chomp‎ Howbizr(t·c) 11:13 PM, 6 Oct 2009 (EDT)
I don't know if you've looked at the source of the new templates themselves, they all reference the template {{Patch}}, meaning the display of the data can be changed very easily and new patches can be added without parsing through a difficult #switch statement. (Also I would like hotfixes to eventually refer to a better-named template, tentatively called Hotfix, and fully deprecate Patched.) --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 23:18, October 6, 2009 (UTC)
There has to be a way to do this without needing an entirely new template for each patch. I'll think on it, maybe play in a sandbox if I have time. My days are pretty full until Saturday this week, though. /chomp‎ Howbizr(t·c) 11:25 PM, 6 Oct 2009 (EDT)
The simplicity of the new templates Mendel has created lend themselves well to bot-changes. Which is fortunate, since any overall change would require changing all of those templates uniformly. There is great value in simplicity, but yeah, it does come with that tradeoff. I have to wonder, though, how often Mendel (or whoever else supports the new templates) will sweep the wiki for "direct uses of 'patched'". For a little while, sure. But over the long term? --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 17:46, October 7, 2009 (UTC)
Really, what an odd question. It's the same process of deprecating one template for another we've done so many times before. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 18:10, October 7, 2009 (UTC)
I've been wandering the wilds of the wiki again, finding items from the original content that were still stubs, and categories left unfilled after a year. Maintenance is on my mind. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 21:17, October 7, 2009 (UTC)
I've provided code (see above) for inclusion in Template:patched that would direct old, unconverted calls into the new system, so that modifications done in the new system would carry over to the old template calls automatically, as long as they haven't been converted.
Each new patch template contains only the unique information that associates patch number and date; everything that is similar about them is written into the central template:Patch. Unless you envision renaming parameters or maybe adding new parameters that you want to use for old patch notes, or changing the date format, maintenance is not necessary - I can say that with confidence because there are no other functions (besides parameter passing and supplying patch number, page and date information) that these templates encode. And in any event, these templates can be easily botted, as PCJ has pointed out. --◄mendel► 00:01, October 8, 2009 (UTC)
Templates that are widely used (like {{Tooltip}}, and even your own example for {{Patched}}) get overhauled every now and then. Don't fall into the trap of thinking your version is the be-all, end-all version. Maintenance may not be done for a month, a year, or several years. But based on history, the odds of it being not necessary are vanishingly small. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 00:16, October 8, 2009 (UTC)
Well, the changes made already make it easier to edit. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 00:34, October 8, 2009 (UTC)
Presumably you're talking about either the Patched template, or the patch version templates. And I agree, that mendel's changes simplify both. I haven't put the Patched (version) templates into action yet, so I can't say about usability. I assume you have? How is it? --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 19:31, October 8, 2009 (UTC)
{{Patch 3.3|...}} is easier to type and remember than {{Patched|patch=3.3|...}}, no question about it. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 19:39, October 8, 2009 (UTC)
Really no reason we couldn't have changed {{patched}} to accept {{patched|3.3.0}} if that was the only reason for creating 100+ new templates.
Pcj, I'm just baffled, because you wrote the template engineer's guidelines, and this is so blatantly contrary to "Single templates which can perform multiple similar functions are preferred," which is just a repetition of the best practice to avoid duplicate code. /chomp‎ Howbizr(t·c) 5:40 AM, 10 Oct 2009 (EDT)
We also avoid a complex #switch statement and other hackish code by splitting the template up. I would rather have easier to use code than worry about duplicating functionality. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 12:59, October 10, 2009 (UTC)

Guild page G I R L @ Vek'nilash-EU deleted. Why?

Hi Pcj,

Kind of saddened to see the page of our guild being deleted. Could you tell me why and what I need to add to it to make you happy?

Regards, /Razsnagka (officer of GIRL)

It did not comply with WW:GUILD policy. You needed to add appropriate categories as indicated in the policy. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 17:26, October 16, 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the swift response.
Hmmm, I understand. If memory serves me, then the page name is even slightly incorrect, so no point in having the page restored as such, unless I could as that you restore it with the proper name and I'll review it during the weekend. I don't have the content of the page saved anywhere, but rather wrote it up from heart. Is there anything you can do to help me out?
Thanks in advance, Razsnagka (talk) 20:11, October 16, 2009 (UTC)
Yes, I can restore it when you're ready to fix it. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 20:34, October 16, 2009 (UTC)
Ok. That sounds perfect. Please restore it and I will make basic updates to it this weekend, and continue during the following week or so. If you could place it properly in the wiki-tree (ie name the page as it should be), that would be deeply appreciated. Just point me to where it is and I'll take if from there. Thanks, /Razsnagka (talk) 15:57, October 17, 2009 (UTC)

Please restore this page and I'll go and update it. I was hoping for a restore during the weekend, but as I'm at home this Monday morning, I thought I'd bump this again. (Page name is correct as I understand it, only the content was missing some required parts.) Thanks, /Razsnagka (talk) 08:04, October 19, 2009 (UTC)

You can ignore this request, as I lost the mood to rewrite it. Thanks for a great site with lots of useful information. Someone else will surely create the GIRL page here - some time... /Razsnagka (talk) 20:01, October 19, 2009 (UTC)

OpenWDB

In regards to broken pages, what should be done with links to deleted pages, such as OpenWDB (← links)? --Drazisil (talk) 10:23, October 21, 2009 (UTC)

If it bothers you, you can either wrap the broken link in wikitext with <nowiki></nowiki> or just remove the link brackets altogether depending on the situation. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 18:56, October 25, 2009 (UTC)
Doesn't really bother me, I was thinking from a cleanup standpoint, if there was a policy related to links to deleted pages. Am I understanding that they are just treated the same as any other broken link? Drazisil (talk) 19:03, October 25, 2009 (UTC)
The relevant policy would be the deletion policy, the links should've been cleaned up at time of deletion but since they weren't there's no mandate to go back and do it. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 19:18, October 25, 2009 (UTC)

Removal of page

Dear Pcj,

My name is Jenglejack and I represent the Sacrificial Lambs clique. In fact, i'm the leader of the guild. To make ourselves more know around the regions of wow I decided to make a wowwiki page.

<Forward 3 weeks>

I check the wiki of my website, and discover it's not there anymore. Checked my email, and yes, YOU deleted it. Could you please explain why you did that, and what I can do to prevent it from happening again ?

Kind Regards,

Jenglejack Trollbane(EU)

You need proper categorization per WW:GUILD. Let me know and I will restore it when you're ready. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 12:53, October 31, 2009 (UTC)

Dear PCJ,

I assume you deleted the page because of the member count that was noted in the wikipage ? This has been edited and corrected to a more static line of information. If however, the page is still incorrect, could you inform me about the changes I need to make ? Thanks in advance, and keep up the good work.

Cleaning the wowwiki must be a hell of a job.

Kind regards,

Jenglejack Trollbane(EU)

No, it was because it needed additional categories. Please re-read WW:GUILD before creating it. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 13:04, November 2, 2009 (UTC)

More tooltip importing

Hi Pcj. Like many others, I'm attempting to import the tooltips to my wiki, but am having no luck. I did a copy/paste for the Tooltips.js and copied the calling line for Common.js as well. I've gone through the Tooltips.js and replaced all instance of "wowwiki" with my site, but still haven't had any luck. I've been using the {{Loot}}, copy/pasted from wowwiki, in an attempt to test it. I've read through the previous comments on your talk page regarding this, but still have not been successful. Any information you can offer to help me get this working would be appreciated! My wiki's site is http://wiki.project-saros.com - Also, I feel I should mention that I have a ShortURL .htaccess file to "clean up" the displayed URLs in my wiki. everything is in the /wiki directory (http://wiki.project-saros.com/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page), but it shortens it to the /w directory (http://wiki.project-saros.com/w/Main_Page). Thanks in advance - Darklyte (talk) 18:29, October 31, 2009 (UTC)

To be fair, Pcj, all you told him was that it was against forum rules; you never specified that you were referring to BLIZZARD's forum rules, so it looked like you were saying it wasn't allowed on the WoWWiki forums, hence his frustration and why I moved it to his userpage. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 02:42, November 5, 2009 (UTC)

Question

Question: Since I have you're attention, I mine aswell ask you a question. It's a pretty dumb one but I'm a pretty dumb person.

Whats the difference between a {{charbox}} and an {{npcbox}}. Howcome some people use an npcbox instead of a charbox for they're characters? Which do you reccomend I use for my character pages? Why? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by TeeSon5 (talk · contr).

Charbox is specialized for characters, as it has slots for character profession, and Realm. Npcbox is intended for non-player characters, for whom realm is unimportant, but who would have a fixed locale. Why would people use npcbox to describe their characters in the game? I really don't know. It isn't well suited to doing so, aside from having a spot for a picture. Maybe they aren't aware of the other template? --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 19:58, November 5, 2009 (UTC)

Pull data through tooltips?

Hey pcj. I'm just wondering, is it possible to pull out a specific piece of information from tooltips? Like, could I specifically pull the dps from Inv sword 87 [Blade of Savagery], or the cooldown of Inv gizmo 08 [Gnomish Death Ray], or the materials of Inv scroll 03 [Pattern: Frozen Shadoweave Robe]? I think that is what that {{{{{{arg|name}}}|--}}} means at the bottom of the {{Tooltip/doc}} means, but I'm not sure. Thanks! Darklyte (talk) 23:06, November 6, 2009 (UTC)

RE:Azeroth on user pages

No, I'm not guessing. I read the section and if it says something like: "Azeroth and Outland" they should be referring to the planet, or if they say: "the world of Azeroth". Sometimes I cross with the kingdom and continent, like when they said something like: "in Booty Bay in eastern Azeroth" they are referring to the continent or: "Azeroth was destroyed in the First War" then its the kingdom. However the 90% of the links refer to the planet :) Benitoperezgaldos (talk) 20:41, November 13, 2009 (UTC)

AFAIK, Azeroth is never referred to as a continent; Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms (and Northrend) are the continents... --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 01:15, November 17, 2009 (UTC)
Sorry, try again. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 01:20, November 17, 2009 (UTC)
To Eirik Ratcatcher: Thats not absolutely true. Eastern Kingdoms, by many a person, is referred to as Azeroth. Azeroth is not just a planet that holds Northrend, Eastern Kingsdoms, and Kalimdor. Azeroth can technically be interchanged with Eastern Kingdoms freely and still be "correct". Also, Stormwind can be called "The Kingdom of Azeroth". Also, the continent of Azeroth is one of three that form the Eastern Kingdoms.

So, not only is there more than 1 meaning for Azeroth, theres actually FOUR! So please read up before commenting ;D TeeSon5 (talk) 01:23, November 17, 2009 (UTC)

Guild: Potato Sack of Tomatoes Drak'tharon

Pardon, but I'm curious as to why this article was deleted. It was a popular article among my friends and realms, and I came on to add more onto it. I'm a bit taken aback why it was randomly deleted after almost a year of its existence. If it's because the guild Potato Sack of Tomatoes has transferred back to Dragonmaw and needed an updated realm tag, that could've been arranged. I'd please like a restoration or at least a way to retrieve all of the work that was put into it, so I can begin a new guild page on the appropriate realm. Or, ideally, if you could restore the page and fix the realm? Please consider all of the time and effort put into that article, and its longevity. I would like to also put one last point in that this article was in no way intended to be a wikisquatting article, as the Potato Sack of Tomatoes guild has transferred among many servers and has a reputable recognition. Thank you. Diagas (talk) 23:52, November 16, 2009 (UTC)

Apologies, but the name of the page is very important. When I check to see if the guild exists in the official Armory and it doesn't I am forced to assume it has disbanded. Twink Guide Deleted

Hey just wondering why this page was deleted. http://www.wowwiki.com/Level_60_hunter_twinking_guide Kiingy (talk) 23:14, November 17, 2009 (UTC)Kiingy

60 twinks don't exist anymore, the brackets were changed. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 23:17, November 17, 2009 (UTC)
If I may, allow me to elaborate in case theres some confusion. It used to be that you had to be level 51 to go into AV, and the brackets were from [51-60], [61-70], [71-80]. However, it has been changed now that 59, 69, and 79 (with 80s in their own bracket for 80s only) now cap the brackets. So if you were to enter an AV at level 60, you would be pummeled by the level 69s. TeeSon5 (talk) 23:28, November 17, 2009 (UTC)

I know the PvP bracket has been changed but 60 twinking is still very much alive. Kiingy (talk) 05:32, November 18, 2009 (UTC)Kiingy

How? World PvP? --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 23:27, November 19, 2009 (UTC)

World PvP and also PvE. http://www.wowarmory.com/guild-info.xml?r=Frostmourne&n=Insomn%C3%AFa

That guild is a 60 Twink guild and still has new twinks joining all the time. Even if you still think it's pointless, could you at least move it to my talk page or something? Or at the very least bring the page back just for a day so I can copy it.Kiingy (talk) 10:05, November 23, 2009 (UTC)Kiingy

World Drops - Poor and Common? / Also sig question

Can I consider adding two categories:

One for poor world drops (like trash (weapon/armor)drops) and one for common world drops, such as the Level 1-10 common items that drop in lowbie zones?

Doing this would reinforce the item stubs I've removed recently for world drops, ex. Inv shield 11 [Deflecting Tower]

edit: Also can I get assistance to fixing my signature, it creates way too much code... Thanks, Frostworn1822 (talk·contr·achievements) 02:16, November 18, 2009 (UTC)

I haven't used this wiki for a long time... edit: Let me know as soon as you can on the fixes on the world drop situation, it was nominated for speedy delete and my description was horrible. I'll work on other world drop items until this situation is revolves. - Frostworn1822
Since we're on the topic of Speedy Delete, while you're checking out those nominations (if you decide to) could you also check out some others that I put in that Category. Theres a few pages that I find redundant such as Guild Bank Alt Guide... I mean seriously? I have a more detailed explanation in my nomination or Deletion. I just wanted to bring those to you're attention.TeeSon5 (talk) 12:19, November 18, 2009 (UTC)

Notice

I didn't want to create a new section just for this, but I ended up doing so. You're last archive was archived at 122 posts; and this one has 127 I think. It's quite the "hassle" to scroll down so could I "recommend" you make another archive? Of course I am just bringing this to you're attention, nothing more =D TeeSon5 (talk) 02:33, November 18, 2009 (UTC)

Page tooltips in Category Namespace

Hopefully this is my last question for you, pcj. I notice that the tooltip function works in categories to say if the category has subpages. In my wiki it doesn't work, but that's neither here no there. I'm wondering if it is possible, in conjunction with Categorytree (or not), to have the tooltip function show tooltips of pages from categories? So, for example, if you were in Category:Gnome Engineering and you moused over Inv gizmo 08 [Gnomish Death Ray] it would show the tooltip for GDR. Is that something that is possible? Darklyte (talk) 23:11, November 19, 2009 (UTC)

Yes, it is possible. Working with CategoryTree might be stretching it. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 23:14, November 19, 2009 (UTC)

Deletion of Isil Cale guil page

Hello Pcj. Would you be so kind to tell me what is reason of deletion of page of Isikl Cale (Исиль Кале) guild. I've try to comply with guild page policy, what was wrong with it or were is my fault?

Thanks

I moved it to the correct location, EU instead of Europe. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 21:06, November 22, 2009 (UTC)
Let me clarify one thing where is the page now (what is address) and what about a Gordunni(Гордунни) realm it is still in Europe not in EU.
Guild:Исиль Кале (Гордунни EU). For the server page Europe is spelled out but for guild pages it is EU. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 21:26, November 22, 2009 (UTC)

Thank you very much. Going to correct all references with that statement on a server page soon.

Short answer, not really. Problems at home that I'm working on. Thanks for thinking of me. /chomp‎ Howbizr(t·c) 3:43 AM, 23 Nov 2009 (EDT)

Short update. I have at least one job offer in Seattle and maybe even 2. I'm moving wrapping up here, finishing up the interview for the second position, and moving over the next couple of weeks. It's totally crazy and amazing and it's going to turn around my life so I can't wait. We'll see how work ramps up but I hope to get back into more Warcraft when things have finally settled down, hopefully by March. Keep in touch. /chomp‎ Howbizr(t·c) 7:28 PM, 29 Jan 2010 (EDT)
The short story (even though it's a long one) is that I'm wonderful. I love it here, and I'm so thrilled to have moved and really taken the reigns on my life. As a result, I have a pretty healthy social life now, on top of pretty long work hours. I'm sure I'll find myself back to contributing, but I probably won't be able to do as much of the theorycrafting articles and such, as I'm not up to date on all the patch changes while I've been out. /chomp‎ Howbizr(t·c) 6:38 PM, 14 Mar 2010 (EDT)
Do we have an approximate when the expansion is coming yet? /chomp‎ Howbizr(t·c) 6:50 PM, 14 Mar 2010 (EDT)

Deletion of guild page The Stonewall Family - Proudmoore-US

Can you please restore the page for http://www.wowwiki.com/Guild:The_Stonewall_Family_(Proudmoore_US) -- the guild in question is a Meta-Guild -- comprised of several sub-guilds -- and the individual sub-guild The Stonewall Family does indeed exist in the Armory http://www.wowarmory.com/guild-info.xml?r=Proudmoore&gn=The+Stonewall+Family --- we hold that charter as well.

If you need more information on the meta-guild I can provide it. Thanks!

Workingclassdog (talk) 20:22, November 23, 2009 (UTC)

Guilds are considered to be disbanded or non-operational if there are fewer than ten characters appearing in it on the Armory. I suggest getting more members and then recreating the page for this specific guild, or moving the entire "meta guild" - the term is "group of guilds" on WoWWiki - as a subpage of your server's page, e.g., Server:Proudmoore US/The Stonewall Family. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 22:52, November 23, 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the response - I'll setup the subpage. However - with respect to "group of guilds" that definition doesn't apply to The Stonewall Family or Taint on the horde side -- we are meta-guilds -- a group of sub-guilds with a common guild leader and officers -- created due to the fact that Blizzard caps guild membership at 500 players. So it appears a new definition needs to be added... as there are many meta-guilds in Wow beyond just Proudmoore.

Guild: The First Fleet (Eonar US)

Why did you delete this guild page? The guild has not be disbanded and is currently very active and many members? If you deleted it because a Wow Armory search came up blank, that's because (as the page itself noted) there is a space at the end of the guild's name. Recreation does not extend the time limit Explination

I do not understand the reason for this Guild page being deleted. Please elaborate. The Guild Box template was used, guidelines on the WW:Guild template were followed and there was only informational text.

Ariule (talk) 15:47, November 27, 2009 (UTC)

It lacked {{Guild}} at the top. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 16:23, November 27, 2009 (UTC)

Cloak of Frozen Spirits edit

May I ask why the Source information was removed?

Per Tailoring Grandmaster Patterns the cloak is listed at level 395 and checking with the Charles Worth in Dalaran it was listed for 8g.

I am attempting to learn coding as fast as possible, however, many administrative edits lack documentation in order to improve the articles instead of simple deletion.

You wrote Glacial Robe instead of Cloak of Frozen Spirits, I thought it was an accidental copy and paste. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 03:09, November 29, 2009 (UTC)

Curious to know what deleted Guild Page said...

I did a Google search for my name and guild and to my surprise i found a page on WoWwilki. But was sad to see that it had been deleted a few days earlier. I am curious to know what the page said, Especialy about me. I cant see any reason for the deletion and all the log says was... "23:21, September 25, 2009 Pcj (Talk | contribs) deleted "Guild:Cult of Nerox (Lightninghoof US)" ‎ (Guild stub article: content was: '{{Guild}} {{Stub/Guild}} The Cult of Nerox is a prominent Horde role-play (RP) guild on Lightninghoof RP/PvP server. It is a heavy RP, light PvE and medium PvP guild. Although it is labeled as a heavy RP)"

In the google search i can see "Guild:Cult of Nerox (Lightninghoof US) - WoWWiki - Your guide to ... In early 2008, the Tauren Druid Direbear joined the Cult. In March 2008 Direbear began to sponsor the guild website, and he quickly became an active and ..." ... and... and what? Id love to know what this page said even if its not restored. Perhaps you could email me the contents? Was there something wrong with the pages content or just its format?

I like to know what was written about me. (yer im that Tauren Druid the page refers to.)

Hi, Pcj. May I ask why was my edit in WoWWiki:Lore policy reverted?, that section really needs cleanup as the information in there is not accurate. Benitoperezgaldos (talk) 05:19, December 1, 2009 (UTC)

There is a process for large changes to policy which you did not follow. Please propose the changes before making changes to policy. Thank you. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 13:32, December 1, 2009 (UTC)

No, it violates policy. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 19:51, December 1, 2009 (UTC)

How? It's been up for a year or two. Stop hurting Stormreaver.

WW:NPOV. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 00:54, December 2, 2009 (UTC)

Which is being handled. This is the 3rd time you've disrupted the page. I've fixed that NPOV every time without having large chunks of the page taken out.

Way to just contradict yourself. It has not been up for a year or two. Lists of subjectively famous people on a realm are against WW:NPOV. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 01:00, December 2, 2009 (UTC)

Pcj: given your reprimand to Benitoperezgaldos here, I find your unilateral decree on 'famous people on servers' jarring. In particular, your WW:NPOV objection invites the question "What objective qualifiers are acceptable?" A qualifier of "on/about this date" seems a good first step. Would you also ask for some form of poll or other statistical measure? Nomination (ala WW:CRAZY) seems entirely unworkable, we have a hard enough time with ANY vote, let alone one that specific. Given that, one must fall back on the experience of someone who is there, and perhaps let a "no he isn't famous" argument develop. Assuming enough people actually care...

Would you care to describe those qualifiers (outside of world/realm-first) that would qualify such a list? --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 01:51, December 3, 2009 (UTC)

I would say bearers of legendary items, Ahn'Qiraj gate openers, Blizzard-recognized players, and similar achievements would be properly meritorious. In any case, lists of famous trolls are right out. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 01:55, December 3, 2009 (UTC)
I'd exercise caution with "bearers of legendary items"... the items suffer some amount of 'desirability' deterioration over time. And I don't think the temporary items from The Eye would count.... --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 00:49, December 5, 2009 (UTC)
It's still an accomplishment which is objectively recognizable. And no, The Eye weapons would not count. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 01:14, December 5, 2009 (UTC)
I agree with what you have to say PCJ, a player like Oxhorn is a noteworthy player, while I would not fall under that category. Trolls in PARTICULAR should never be considered noteworthy, because it takes no skill to be a troll, in addition trolls provide no positive reinforcement for a server. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Oakpack4 (talk · contr).

Main Page Advice

Hi, wasn't sure who to contact. I'm from Redwall, and I recently re-designed my main page. I've found your main page and mine both make use of the 2-column style, however my main page is acting wonky on different screen resolutions or if the window is resized; the boxes have spacing issues. I was looking for some advice on how to fix this. And while I'm here, I just noticed your nifty tooltips. How do those work? -- LordTBT Talk! 20:05, December 8, 2009 (UTC)

You probably need to mess with some CSS width/max-width settings to get the look you want. If that doesn't help I'll take a look this weekend. Tooltips are created using JS (MediaWiki:Tooltips.js). If you want to use it on your wiki you probably want to copy/mess around with User:Pcj/simple.js instead. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 04:51, December 9, 2009 (UTC)
I'm honestly not sure what needs the tweaking. If you'd take a look, I'd really appreciate it. -- LordTBT Talk! 07:33, December 13, 2009 (UTC)
OK, made some adjustments, let me know if that works. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 20:46, December 19, 2009 (UTC)
The adjustments work in that there is no longer a big ugly white space, however if the window is resized, some boxes still crash into each other, additionally I can't seem to adjust the box widths (previously they were all the same width, now they are different) -- LordTBT Talk! 01:15, December 20, 2009 (UTC)
They should not crash into each other anymore. I would recommend not specifying width in pixels. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 03:04, December 20, 2009 (UTC)
Not crashing any more, however some other problems have arisen. The spacing between the Greeting and News boxes should be the same spacing for all the boxes. Also, the spacing between the Greeting and Facebook box should be the same all the way down too. -- LordTBT Talk! 03:27, December 20, 2009 (UTC)
OK, that should do it. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 04:03, December 20, 2009 (UTC)
Almost there! (I appreciate your time and help!) The New Fan Fiction box is a bit too far to the right, and there's a little too much space in between it and the Images box. -- LordTBT Talk! 04:20, December 20, 2009 (UTC)

Hello I'm Station7 and I have a few questions. It looks like you're the admnistrator of this site. Is World Of Warcraft a free game? How worked that with the things under your user page? Stub comment removal

Hello, at what point would it be appropriate to remove the stub comment from a new wiki page that I have been editing? Thanks! --Multiboxing (talk) 04:51, December 14, 2009 (UTC)

There is usually a boilerplate depending on the type of article, if it meets the boilerplate or if there is nothing relevant missing from the article, it can be removed. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 05:00, December 14, 2009 (UTC)

New message

On each page I get the message that there are changes to my talk page. But I cannot get rid of them, because it appears to be changes that I made myself to my talk page. How can I get rid of them (unless the messages are really new)? Hans Kamp (talk) 06:56, December 21, 2009 (UTC)

I am not sure what would be causing that. You can hide the notification with some CSS, but the only way to really get rid of it is by visiting your talk page, but apparently you're doing that. Try logging out and back in? I don't know. --13:25, December 22, 2009 (UTC)

Guild Deletion

I checked on our guild page this morning ( http://www.wowwiki.com/Guild:The_Earth_Walkers_(Darkmoon_Faire_EU) ) to see that you have deleted it due to disbanding. This is not the case and I believe that if you had researched it you may have searched for 'The Earth Walkers' whereas our name is 'Earth Walkers' in-game. A mistake on our part to have titled the page in this way and one that will be rectified once the page is restored. This could have been avoided, however, by a little more research on your part; a check of our website (the link to which was on the wiki page) would have shown you that we are quite active!

As a bit of a wiki noob, how would I go about restoring our page? I do have a backup copy with the relevant markup but I don't think it was as up-to-date as the page itself.

Porting Tooltips

Hi there. First, thanks so much for allowing people to use the scripts you've developed for displaying tooltips on external wikis. It sure beats trying to reinvent the wheel!

I've sort of got this functionality working on my new wiki, but I'm a bit lost at this point. I've checked through User:Pcj and the previous messages here on your talk page, as well as numerous other Template pages here on WoWWiki, but it's really difficult to find the installation/set up information I need to get this working, particularly in a sequential order.

This is the page I'm using currently to test this functionality on my wiki. As you can see there, it's generating the hovers for the tooltips, but it's not actually finding the item data to display and I'm not sure why that is. (I do understand that here on WoWWiki, the script looks for the local page for the item and generates the tooltip from there, but I'm not sure how to convert that to just finding the tooltip data from an external database.) I had thought it might be a matter of editing the js files to specify which database it should be checking for items on and I tried tinkering with that a bit but no dice. I'm sure I must be missing something extremely obvious here, but I can't for the life of me think what that might be.

Any help you could provide would be extremely helpful. (And yes, I'd be more than happy to grant you admin access to my wiki in order to accomplish whatever needs doing.)

Thanks so much! IconSmall Vereesa Lassirra 10:57, December 22, 2009 (UTC)

Are you trying to pull tooltip data from WoWWiki or another source? To pull the tooltip data from WoWWiki, you would have to change the URL in function getInfo. However, it will probably give you XSS (cross-site scripting) errors and not work. I will have to think how to implement it as it would probably require some JS at WoWWiki to work. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 13:37, December 22, 2009 (UTC)
Ideally, I'd like to pull tooltip data directly from WoWHead (just as you would on a blog, for example). Maybe I'm going about it the wrong way? I understand WoWHead has their "powered by" section with their script, but I'm very new to wiki management so I wasn't sure how to implement their script on a wiki. Checking around for getting tooltip displays on wikis was how I came across your script, so I assumed (perhaps incorrectly?) that it was what I needed. Pulling tooltip data from WoWWiki would also work. I'm just not sure which is easiest/most efficient. I apologize for my ignorance, and appreciate your help very much. Sure, give me admin access there and I'll be glad to set it up. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 20:59, December 22, 2009 (UTC)

Dungeon finder breakdown

I had made it a separate page for two reasons: First, it had the potential to be quite large. Separation allowed the pages to be smaller. Second, it separated table edits from text edits. The breakdown page was likely to (and did) have a large number of updates. That isolated the table history, which seemed somewhat worthwhile to me. ... and I could not predict whether there would be an application for components of the breakdown page to find their way to other pages.

History lost, if it mattered in the first place. Done, now, though. I'll live. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 19:21, January 22, 2010 (UTC)

Lock a Guild Page

Greetings, as founder and page builder of our Guild Page (http://www.wowwiki.com/Guild%3APORTUCALE_%28Frostmane_EU%29) i have one question. Is it possible for me to lock the page to prevent others of changing (vandalize) ? and unlock it when i need to update it ?

Not really, that would be too much over-management (wikis are supposed to be free to edit). However I can lock it down against newly-created users and get onto whoever is giving you trouble. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 19:34, January 29, 2010 (UTC)

Are they? because i was about to ask you to reportect those pages. I thought they werent fair game till someone saw the cinematic on live servers, not through being datamined.Warthok Talk Contribs 18:17, February 2, 2010 (UTC)
The video is openly accessible from the files as of released patch 3.3.2, no datamining necessary. And datamined released information is fine anyway. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 18:28, February 2, 2010 (UTC)
Does this means that "DO NOT ADD SPOILERS REGARDING THE FINAL CUTSCENE OF WOTLK UNTIL RELEASED BY BLIZZARD OR SEEN IN GAME ON LIVE SERVERS. SEE 'DO NOT POST' POLICY" on 3 or 4 articles are useless and we can post about it?

Please define "openly accessible," and tell me when releasing datamined information was "fine." -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 18:38, February 2, 2010 (UTC)
The video is stored in normal AVI format in a subdirectory of the Data directory in your WoW folder. Released, announced content is fine to datamine per WW:DNP. However, datamining stuff not seen in-game often leads to speculation which is against DNP. Since the cinematic explains itself and is released (and was actually even announced prior to the patch) it is fine. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 19:29, February 2, 2010 (UTC)
Ah, I thought it was embedded in the MPQ files. If it WERE embedded in the files rather than sitting in the cinematics folder, however, wouldn't that still be considered datamining until someone beat the Lich King? As I recall, similar details about Kil'jaeden (and the legendary bow specifically) were suppressed until it was actually encountered on live servers. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 19:36, February 2, 2010 (UTC)

Opinion needed, please

Hi, I wanted your input on a matter: should I start a Deletion process on Category:Templates that should have been local? I'm currently traversing the category system to get to know the site and see where can I help, and that category seems pretty unnecessary: It's empty, and the last discussion about it is 2-3 years old. However, as I'm pretty new around here (I have a little bit of experience with Mediawiki and Wikipedia's systems, but each site has its own rules) I don't know if a deletion process is in order. Could you point me to the right thing to do? Thank you in advance. PS: I selected you to ask because you were somehow involved in the voting. Scarbrowtalk 18:24, March 3, 2010 (UTC)

Apparently, there are still forces that view the category as useful. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 22:07, March 3, 2010 (UTC)

Forum:Gem type categories

Were the references to the various categories causing problems? If it was a matter of categories that are now dead-and-gone being redlinks, I think that instead of nowiki'ing them, un-linkifying them might have been a better option, given what nowiki did to page layout. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 19:23, March 10, 2010 (UTC)

The more I look at the page, though, the more that your nowiki tags don't make any sense. I'm not even sure they'd make the difference between "this page links to that dead category" and not. Lots and lots and lots of links in the comments. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 19:26, March 10, 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the welcome, Pcj! A couple years late, but definitely better late than never. :) I don't really contribute anymore since my best contribution was shot down for being baseless speculation despite me putting the speculation header AND I put the source of said speculation. This guild page keeps getting tagged as a stub article. The page contains all required information per the guild page policy as far as I can tell. Could you please advise what this page is missing so that I can fix it? Elenoctae (talk) 05:00, April 11, 2010 (UTC)

It is missing required categorization. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 05:03, April 11, 2010 (UTC)

Copied from the policy page: "Note that using {{Guild}} and/or {{Guildbox}} with the appropriate parameters filled in will automatically categorize your guild page." The Malice and Forethought page contains both the {{Guild}} tag as well as a completed {{Guildbox}}. It has had both since the page was created. What more should I add? Elenoctae (talk) 05:13, April 11, 2010 (UTC)

It's not filled in with the appropriate parameters. You need to categorize your guild as either PvE or PvP. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 05:15, April 11, 2010 (UTC)

It cannot be categorized as both? Elenoctae (talk) 05:19, April 11, 2010 (UTC)

Sure you can, just not through the templates. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 05:32, April 11, 2010 (UTC)

Notorious Deletion

Hey, Pcj. I was a new poster to Wowwikia (note the word "was"), but I had trouble when I first put up the info about our guild. You moved the page someplace else. I assumed that you moved it because I had labeled it wrong, so I made my new edits to the new location. Then, on April 6th, you deleted that page as well.

I just wanted to let you know that I did not fully understand what I did wrong. It said something like it needed content revisions? Since I don't understand how this site works, and I obviously don't know enough to post a simple page, I have just removed all mention of our guild Notorious from your wikia site.

I am sorry for the problems that I caused you in having to move our guild's wikia page and then delete it. I really had no idea that I was doing anything against policy. You don't happen to know if there is a section on here for us newbies where we can figure out what/how we are supposed to do stuff, do you?

Thanks,

Vad

The page was moved and later deleted per WW:GUILD. A stub notice was on the page for 30 days prior to deletion. You should probably familiarize yourself with WoWWiki policies. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 15:12, April 12, 2010 (UTC)

Patroller Demotions

I saw you've demoted many Patrollers, and i can only assume this is based on activity as i can't find a discussion on it. I'd like to point out that i do still check the site daily -- often limited to my watchlist but expanding from there -- and will be reverting vandalism still when i see it, so i wouldn't say i've been that inactive or ineffective -- just far lass than i once was. I'm not too bothered by the abilities that come with the position, just the principle of the demotion being unecessary, and as Kirkburn has pointed me towards Forum:Problem report solvers as a future change to Patrollers, i wouldn't mind having that oppertunity too. -- Zeal (T/C)  14:25, April 19, 2010 (UTC)

Simple Tooltip (Image)

Hello Pcj! I am at a loss, and regretfully must ask you for help, as I cannot do this by myself, and believe you have the expertise to help me. I wish to create a tooltip that causes an image to appear within the box, nothing else. An example is at [7], where I want the image on the right to appear on a hover of a link titled "Red Sparkle Formula". Any help would be massively appreciated. BeardedBee (talk) 21:00, April 22, 2010 (UTC)

Have you tried User:Pcj/simple.js? I am pretty sure that will work for you. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 23:13, April 22, 2010 (UTC)

That looks great. How would I go about implementing that? I saw your complex array of templates, and seek well, just one if possible:). Thank you for your quick response. BeardedBee (talk) 00:15, April 23, 2010 (UTC)

Put that in your MediaWiki:Common.js and then create a template that looks like:
<div class="ttlink">{{{text}}}</div><div style="display:none;">{{{image}}}</div>
--PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 00:24, April 23, 2010 (UTC)

I'm sorry but it seems you might have to walk me through every tiny step:P.. I've done what you've said, stuck the simple.js into my MediaWiki:Common.js, and created a temple with your code called Template:Tooltip .. Though my problem now is getting a link to appear and an image to appear when I hover over it. Could you possibly post an example? I've tried {{Tooltip|text=Red Sparkle Formula|image=File:Red_Sparkle_Formula.png}} but it only made "Red Sparkle Formula" appear, without a link, and no hover functionality. BeardedBee (talk) 10:45, April 23, 2010 (UTC)

Sorry, looks like I might have missed a closing bracket: http://www.wowwiki.com/index.php?title=User:Pcj/simple.js&diff=2241867&oldid=2091519 --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 12:58, April 23, 2010 (UTC)

Ok I've updated that, but I still can't make it work. What code should I use to make it appear, could you provide an example? I really appreciate all your help. BeardedBee (talk) 13:37, April 23, 2010 (UTC)

Sorry, not sure, some of the code appears to not be loading properly. I must've been tired this morning, the bracket I had there was fine. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 23:15, April 23, 2010 (UTC)

Hi Pcj, I'm sorry to bother you again but I'm not sure who else to turn to to fix my tooltip problem. Is there any chance I could give you full rights on [8] and you can help me sort it out? I understand if now, but I'd be forever grateful if you could enable these tooltips for me. Kind regards. BeardedBee (talk) 12:26, May 23, 2010 (UTC)

Though I imagine it's far more complicated than the tooltips I'm currently requesting, and am already humbled by even your response, so it shall just remain a passing comment that I like them.. :) I look forward to your help whenever you have time BeardedBee (talk) 22:20, May 23, 2010 (UTC)

OK, I've got it working. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 23:00, May 23, 2010 (UTC)

Incredible! I sincerely thank you:) If there's something I can do in return please let me know. Many thanks again:) BeardedBee (talk) 23:28, May 23, 2010 (UTC)

I've been trying out the tooltips, trying also to not mess with them too much, and they appear to not be working ideally. I moved the page to [9] to make it shorter and free up the main tooltip page. I hope this wouldn't mess with it. The problem I'm experiencing is whenever I implement the tooltip, it forces a new line to start, and the hover effect is present for a whole line, and not just when the text is hovered over. I've created a test page: [10], is there any chance you could show me how it should be done? Kind regards BeardedBee (talk) 14:09, May 24, 2010 (UTC)

Fixed it. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 23:49, May 24, 2010 (UTC)

So you have!:) Truely incredible. I will endeavour to learn javascript and hopefully one day will be able to help people like you've helped me. Thank you very much PCJ, you've been incredibly generous. BeardedBee (talk) 10:06, May 25, 2010 (UTC)

Sorry to bother you again Pcj, but ideally I'd like to make the tooltip more efficient and tidier. Ideally the tooltip will be {{item|Item Name}} (after the page Template:Tti is moved to Template:item). I'd like some kind of auto-grab for the image within the template Template:Infobox Item. I really don't like burdening you, but if it's time consuming could you possibility at least point me towards how I can learn such code?:) I've learnt a lot from observing your changes, but clearly not yet enough. BeardedBee (talk) 23:34, May 27, 2010 (UTC)

Your best bet is to look through the way {{Tooltip}} and {{Item}} interact here. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 23:35, May 27, 2010 (UTC)

Oh trust me I've tried:). I've just had another good hard look at it, and I can't even see a mention of the item template on the tooltip template, which I'd expect (shows my lack of understanding). I'm utterly confused by "arg" and the 1s and 2s with endless brackets surrounding them. Hmm.BeardedBee (talk) 00:00, May 28, 2010 (UTC)

Basically you will need to include the portions of the page you are wanting to retrieve. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 00:11, May 28, 2010 (UTC)

I feel like I'm trying to alter a painting with a mallet as a brush. Is there any chance you could fix it and I can learn from how you did it?:) It's making my head spin a bit. Is there a manual for this kind of stuff? BeardedBee (talk) 00:37, May 28, 2010 (UTC)

See w:c:tlbbeu:Template:Item and my change to w:c:tlbbeu:Red Sparkle Formula for a very basic implementation. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 00:53, May 28, 2010 (UTC)

That's a bit of magic, that:). You said I need to make it grab from the page I'm trying to retrieve, though I don't understand how [[{{{1}}}]] is linked to the page it retrieves. I also notice my challenge is to sort out a template that automatically does onlyinclude. I think I can do that. BeardedBee (talk) 01:05, May 28, 2010 (UTC)

RE: What Widget?

Something that users get by default or can switch to using by going into 'my preferences' the 'skin' tab and checking the box for "Check this box to use the custom WoWWiki Monaco skin (recommended). This will override skin choices made above. This setting will follow you across Wikia."

Then clicking on 'more' near the log out link and selecting 'manage widgets' will give you a bunch of devices to attach to your browser. One of them is for searching pages that need images.... or was I can't seem to locate it right now. Normally I have this all turned off, I prefer the old wowwiki skin... the height given for jungle trolls is 6'1" - 7'1 while orcs are given 6' 6" - 8' 6, Tauren info says there about 7' 2" - 9, and night elves are said to be 6'6" - 7'6. Your opinion is requested. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 23:43, April 29, 2010 (UTC)

Hmm.. more images

Here's an interesting example... and it didn't used to be like this, must have changed recently... The page Inv torch lit [Witchbane Torch] has two images, but if you click on either of them, neither show it links somewhere. Editing the page, you'll see cause they have Image: instead of File:, but Image: used to work just fine before =( ... so basically any and every page linking images using Image: rather than File: is going to show up in the Special:UnusedFiles. SnakeSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3For Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 00:58, April 30, 2010 (UTC)

Hmm, interesting. I edited the page to use File and they both showed up as you said, then I went back to edit it back to Image on one of them and that still showed the link. It may be that pages with no edits since the Image -> File transition (or another more arbitrary point) may not properly link to the image. I am guessing that perhaps the newfangled method of gallery editing probably does not update the database accurately in a similar way. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 01:02, April 30, 2010 (UTC)
Sounds plausible... perhaps we need a bot to go through all pages with images and change Image: to File: ? SnakeSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3For Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 01:05, April 30, 2010 (UTC)
Probably. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 01:06, April 30, 2010 (UTC)
Image: and File: are interchangeable on all wikis - the problem could be like the otherday when every page with the __NOWYSIWYG__ tag was showing the tag when it should be invisible - later in the day Wikia staff said that they were messing with the code and the tag should go back to being invisible when they are done. I got hit a few unique times by "your IP is blocked" with that user's name as the relevant name attached to the IP address. This was during rapid-fire page requests; one page would be blocked, and the requests to either side weren't; re-requesting to edit succeeded. No idea what was going on there.

But it did prompt me to look at the user, and the page he was editing. I think you would have saved yourself some trouble after the first iteration of "not a stub" "is too" "is not", if you'd pointed him at the guild page policy page. But ... it's your time. :) --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 20:06, May 3, 2010 (UTC)

YUI

Hey Pcj,
Thanks for the interest in helping port YUI stuff to jQuery. We actually have a list of the components of the site which use YUI (last time I checked anyway). I've moved it to a public wiki here so that the community can collab on it: http://dev.wikia.com/wiki/Removing_YUI
I might be the only person updating that page, so it's possible other things have gone completely off of YUI (it sounds like that might be the case for CategorySelect, but I'm not sure). If you can check a couple off of that list, that'd be a huuuuge help!
Let me know if you have any questions & thanks for the help!

Edit of Guild:The Companion Cube (Eonar EU)

Hello,

You have just edited Guild:The Companion Cube (Eonar EU). I saw you removed my comment at the bottom of the page. I'm assuming my comment shouldn't have been there. Could you tell me where I should have put it instead? Or point me to the guideline I have apparently overlooked before creating the page?

As this was the first page I created from scratch on WoWWiki I'm looking for as much feedback as possible.

Thanks!

Since it's a stub there is no point for the comment, also in general practice you do not make editorial comments inside articles - leave those to talk pages. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 20:19, June 20, 2010 (UTC)

Rumbled.net WOW PATCHES!

Why the hell do you keep repeatly removing my mirror, it breaks no rules whats so ever! infact you keep bumping the crappy mirrors! and deleteing the good ones (Simonhayter (talk) 16:04, June 30, 2010 (UTC))

It is not a link to a specific patch page but rather a general link to the downloads page, which go to the bottom per the rules. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 16:12, June 30, 2010 (UTC)
Well I just think your being picky there, The rules stats that the link provided must be that of the patch and not a general website!

The link provided is to patches only, yes there all on one patch this is intended to make it easier for the end user! The link provided is not a general website as you seem to think.

And if your going to delete sites with multiple patches included in one page or more, then you need to delete

http://apeboys.org/ (Over 20 patches on one page) http://0daypatch.info/ (Dupe Mirrors, of ul and rapidshare) www.games32.com (Need to register to download) www.wowpatchdownload.de (Hosts 2 Patches on one page)

QOUTE: It is not a link to a specific patch page but rather a general link to the downloads page, which go to the bottom per the rules

How is http://www.rumbled.net/downloads.html a general website? I see patches, patches, and more patches! Oo and some banners! So Patches, and Banners makes it a general website? OFC not! www.rumbled.net without the downloads.html is a general site.

—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Simonhayter (talk · contr).

Sorry, per the page rules it's my right to police it. I will review the other sites you mentioned. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 16:49, June 30, 2010 (UTC)

OK I respect that, I can alter my site according. Just little fraustrating that other sites are getting away with lot worse. How about a rules revision? I don't see how sites like rapidshare, easyshare and so forth with there 60sec cooldown downloading queues, then max of 1 download per an 15>60mins limit should be allowed. Isnt the patch page suppose be useful? Don't see having to use 8 sites to get your world of warcraft patched reasonable. Anyhow thanks, I'll edit my website to max the rules. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Simonhayter (talk · contr).

There's nothing in the rules that says they can't throttled their downloads. Besides, you can get around their restrictions if you know what you're doing. (Note: I'm not telling you how.) P.S. Flash

Hello sir, wow, 48,000 edits. I had over 60,000 (top 300 editors) before I quit wikipedia. I have "only" about 13,000 edits across wikia. BTW, I had a problem navigating your page because it is 120 kb long. consider archiving :)

I saw your kind offer to help an editor here:

Forum:Is there a way to get a HTML code that makes a web game appear?

I am gathering together the elements to create a flash player map, similar but with more information that this flash map:

http://newcenstein.com/deadrisingmap.htm

It will probably be two months before I have it ready to post, but I don't want to spend all of the hundreds of hours working on it, then finding out I can't post it.

I know there are extensions on mediawiki for flash players, I had one before on my wiki. But all of them have dire warnings.

Your JavaScript idea is intriguing. If I were to build this map, which would be on one page, could you assist me in posting it?

Thank you in advance :) Anno1404 (talk) 06:12, July 1, 2010 (UTC)

Removal of my mirror again

Hi,

Would you please let me know why yet again my mirror has been removed from the list by yourself? I can't see anything wrong, have had no messages left on my talk page either.

The site is online and working correctly as are the downloads. (alexsmith.im is my mirror).

Thanks,

User:Darkorb/sigs 15:14, July 2, 2010 (UTC)

Page rules require a link to the specific patch and localization in the patch tables. Links to generic patch pages go at the bottom of the page. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 15:20, July 2, 2010 (UTC)
How comes this hasn't been a problem before? I've been quite a popular source for patches and had no complaints from users over the large amount of time that I've been listing the patches in the mirror in this manner. Also, wouldn't you consider it polite to inform people of this rather than just removing them without any notification? More so if the person has a track record of updating/adding to the patch listing? The amount of work that is now required for me to update this because of some "rule" that has suddenly appeared is somewhat unfair, seeing as there are other sites which often get added and break the exact same rules you are saying you are up holding.
Personally I don't think that having patches listed in localised pages with well defined headers regarding each version is a problem - clearly not to the people that enjoy the fast (multi gigabit patch day traffic from my site) downloads either it seems.
Anyway, thanks for replying, hopefully you'll share some thoughts on the above.
User:Darkorb/sigs 15:26, July 2, 2010 (UTC)
The patch mirrors page is obviously hard to keep monitored so there has been some unavoidable lenience, rules are rules though. I'm trying to be consistent with this application however. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 15:44, July 2, 2010 (UTC)
I can understand that, just some forewarning would have been nice rather than them just being removed. I can understand if it's someone abusing it but for long term site members/patch hosts it would have been nice to have a quick "this is wrong, fix it or I'll remove your mirror" first... Anyway thank you for your reply, it is appreciated. Maybe I'll get time to redo my site soon... User:Darkorb/sigs 16:00, July 2, 2010 (UTC)

Mediawiki destination

Hello again Pcj! I'm glad to say my wiki's coming along well (love the tooltips:)), working on some skins (not bad at css now), and I have a bit of a headache from js now:) Anyway, to the point, I've got some code that I don't want jumbled up with in Mediawiki:Common.css or Mediawiki:Common.js, so I stuck the respective codes in MediaWiki:TeamBuffs.css and MediaWiki:TeamBuffs.js, though they aren't loading for my desired page. Could you possibly explain why/point me how to fix it? Kind regard, BeardedBee (talk) 20:59, July 15, 2010 (UTC)

First of all, you should use an array instead of separate functions, then you could reduce it so it's very small and can fit in Common.js without a lot of headache. Short of that you will need to do something like
importScriptPage('MediaWiki:TeamBuffs.js', 'tlbbeu');
and similarly an @import line in the CSS. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 21:06, July 15, 2010 (UTC)

What do you mean by an array? I'll put those codes in the Mediawiki:Common files then, thank you for your quick reply. BeardedBee (talk) 21:35, July 15, 2010 (UTC)

I put

@import 'MediaWiki:TeamBuffs.css';

in the top of my Mediawiki:Common.css, though I see no changes. Do I also need to put something in MediaWiki:TeamBuffs.css?

As you said about the array, I'm interested in doing what you think is best, I only stuck the code in these new pages because they only relate to one table on one page. BeardedBee (talk) 21:53, July 15, 2010 (UTC)

Another post, I apologise for the multiple consecutive posts. I think you mean an array for javascript? I'm very new to it, but I'll see what I can do soon.

I've stuck the js and css in the Common files to see if it'd work properly, and it seems it isn't. There's javascript stuck directly in the table I was seeking to configure. Have I done something wrong, or is the only way around this a template or something? BeardedBee (talk) 22:19, July 15, 2010 (UTC)

I'm not seeing where this JavaScript is being called, if you could show me that it would be helpful... --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 23:39, July 15, 2010 (UTC)

Ah Sorry about that. Here: Team Buffs. Yeah there's javascript built into the table there too, in order to make multiple, specific cells become highlighted when hovered. BeardedBee (talk) 23:42, July 15, 2010 (UTC)

JavaScript only runs if written in certain pages, it doesn't run from content pages unless loaded from i.e. MediaWiki:Common.js. Further, if you only want a hover effect, you should use exclusively CSS. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 23:44, July 15, 2010 (UTC)

Do you perhaps have any suggests as to how I could get the table working as desired? I tried with the pseudoclass hover but it seemed like the best I could get out of it was a highlighted row, even when I played around with divs and IDs I couldn't get the cells highlighting as I wished. Javascript was the last resort really, but the table definitely works on a normal HTML page, as uposed to a Wikia one. BeardedBee (talk) 23:50, July 15, 2010 (UTC)

OK, I implemented it just as it looks like you were wanting the JS to work. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 00:05, July 16, 2010 (UTC)

That's what I had without javascript. I also just realised the table I had there was the non-js one, I've updated that. What I'd like are multiple cells to respond to 1 cell being hovered over. Save this code as a html and you'll see what I mean:

Buffs are skills that enhance the abilities of the player they're applied to. All of the 9 [[Class_System|Classes]] have buffs that can be applied, though some are able to be used on other team members, which are listed in the table below.

Some of the team buffs rely on an individual member being selected, whilst others rely on individuals being within a certain range and in the same team as the caster.

Yeah, that's the same effect for me. Per the CSS, the only thing you're changing between the two different classes is the color. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 00:31, July 16, 2010 (UTC)

At the moment on the table, if I were to hover over "Demon Skin" for example, only the cell it is in has its text changed, and not the text description beneath it. The reason I used the javascript was to link two cells and cause them to change. I know the script I made is probably quite botched and far from ideal, but it works, though sadly not within a Wikia content page. Is there anyway I can achieve the desired effect? BeardedBee (talk) 00:38, July 16, 2010 (UTC)

You could use a horiziontal line (<hr>) instead of a new table row to separate the buff and its description. That way the CSS would apply to everything in that one cell. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 00:45, July 16, 2010 (UTC)

I just tried that now and I'm not really sure how to go about it. Thank you for all your help again, Pcj. You're really generous with your time. BeardedBee (talk) 11:17, July 16, 2010 (UTC)

As advised in the article, I'm asking an admin first.

I would like to get an idea of what the community might think of a possible request for adminship.

Your edits are generally good, I think you need to familiarize yourself a bit more with the policies (as we recently discussed) before looking at adminship. Your instincts as far as what needs to be done are good, you just need to clear up some issues to have a good basis in policy. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 12:56, July 20, 2010 (UTC)

Looking to locate a moved/deleted page. Landilari Suncaller and Grimgash the Gray

Hi there,

A page of mine was just deleted/moved. I haven't posted to wowwiki in some time and i think I may have double posted and posted in the wrong location. However I can't find my page. It was listed as a SpeedyDelete. I'm just looking to begin a PC page with a couple characters. my guess is that if may wind up somewhere like the following. http://www.wowwiki.com/Server:Moon_Guard_US/Landilari_Suncaller_and_Grimgash_the_Gray. But if not, is there something you can tell me to perhaps help me avoid the same error?

Thanks so much! :)

Wikia Community Central

If you're replacing every new user's page with Template:NewUser anyway, why not edit MediaWiki:Welcome-user-page and be done with it?

Sidenote: I feel uncomfortable discussing Community Central issues here, where it's offtopic, the community central people won't see it, and I don't have a watchlist that I follow. However, the redirect on w:User talk:Pcj leaves me no other choice. It means I need to log in here, too; which, given the slowness I am experiencing today, is a matter of minutes! I was also suprised that your talkpage has a link to "Edit this page", although its tooltip already knows the page is protected against logged-out edits; your avatar dropdown also offers to leave a message, which wouldn't work when logged out. --◄mendel► 20:48, August 23, 2010 (UTC)

Prelude

Hello Pcj

I changed the page Prelude Guild adding the categorization and making it more comply to the guild policy. Mind if I remove the "stub" section ? Cataldoc (talk) 14:54, August 24, 2010 (UTC)

Why the random deletions?

Admittedly, I will probably never really use File:Barrens2.jpg and File:Ghostlands3.jpg, but why the heck would you bother deleting those two images out of all the images on my user page? And why did you re-submit the exact same jpg for File:DesolaceQuesting1.jpg??? I would appreciate it if you put some comments when you make changes. And if there is a way to undelete those images, please do. If WoWWiki needs me to clean up my old user page data, I will archive it on my personal system so that it isn't lost forever, thankyouverymuch. MaxWilder (talk) 04:05, August 25, 2010 (UTC)

Im not PCJ, but im guessing you forgot to go to the picture's page and switch the "no license" message with some license (e.g. made by the user MaxWilder, etc.) i forget the exact name for these.--Sheffi (talk) 05:27, August 25, 2010 (UTC)
That's more of a recent thing that started. I believe his images were older and don't really apply to that. SnakeSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3For Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 05:33, August 25, 2010 (UTC)
There was some corruption in them, they appeared lost anyway. You can see what happened at File:Barrens2.jpg. If you want to re-upload them, you can. That's what I had to do for DesolaceQuesting1. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 11:52, August 25, 2010 (UTC)

Are you seeing a gorilla? I'm pretty sure it's the wrong image, Barrens2 and Ghostlands3 were the same gorilla and all the other images on his leveling guide page are maps. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 13:34, August 25, 2010 (UTC)
Ah, I understand now. Yah, that seems wrong. -=- IconSmall DrakeAzure Drazisil [t/c] 13:39, August 25, 2010 (UTC)
Indeed, that is the wrong image. I guess they are lost. Oh, well. At any rate, if you delete something like that, I'm sure the uploading user would appreciate a note, such as "Image corrupted, unrecoverable." Thanks. MaxWilder (talk) 20:05, August 25, 2010 (UTC)

flavor text from card

How much work would it be for me to pull the flavor text out of a TCG card and display on a page with a template. Is that possible, or would I need to parse it with a form of your tooltip.js? -=- IconSmall DrakeAzure Drazisil [t/c] 13:41, August 25, 2010 (UTC)

When you say TCG card do you mean one of the pages on the wiki? --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 13:43, August 25, 2010 (UTC)
Yes, like TCG Heroes of Azeroth/105 as a random example. I'm like to be able to edit the flavor template to flavor|<set>|<card> and have it auto pull the text, instead of the way it is now where you have to copy/paste it. Is that doable? -=- IconSmall DrakeAzure Drazisil [t/c] 13:47, August 25, 2010 (UTC)

Tooltips for another game.

Hi there.

I am an editor at the official Allods Online wiki, and we would love to have tooltips as dynamic as the ones here. Is there any chance the script works on nonwikia wikis? We do not mind creating the item templates ourselves within the wiki.

IRC Javascript discussion

I revamped the {{book}} template adding classes in Common.css for you to work with. The page w:c:Aion:Femme Fatale of History 10 is set and ready to go as an example page. I have the left arrow and all text pages except for page1 hidden already. The code will need to find the number of pages and place it into the page class in the format of - x/xx -. Please code the hiding of the arrows for first and last page. Any edits/corrections/more efficient code... feel free to change. I am still new at a lot of this CSS/Javascript stuff. What I have coded works, but may not be optimal. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have this talk page watched, so answering here or my talk page on Aion wiki should suffice to get my attention if you need it. Thanks in advance. Rappy 04:49, August 31, 2010 (UTC)

You deleted Guild leveling last year, probably because it redirected incorrectly. I suggest that this article be recreated as a redirection to Guild advancement since it is already commonly used to mean this. Some examples:

http://www.wow.com/tag/Guild-Leveling/
http://www.google.com/#hl=en&safe=active&q=site%3Aworldofwarcraft.com+%22guild+leveling%22

Any complaints?

Template:Elinks-spell/dev

{{t|Elinks-spell/dev}} Ok, why does the documentation show correctly but the template doesn't when including it? What silly little thing did I mess up this time? Also, any objections to this replacing the live copy, it's backwards compatible as far as I can tell. -=- IconSmall DrakeAzure Drazisil [t/c] 12:48, September 6, 2010 (UTC)

Template:Patch fail

{{Patch}} just broke somehow. All the patch pages are reporting (patch date::yyyy-mm-dd) as the date, see {{Patch_3.2.0}} as an example. -=- IconSmall DrakeAzure Drazisil [t/c] 19:22, September 9, 2010 (UTC)

Tooltip Colours

Hello Pcj! You may remember you so graciously installed tooltips on the TLBB Wiki which I edit. I've just been trying to get the brackets and colours to appear, and I seem to be fudging it a bit, and can't get it to work really. Could you possibly point me in the right direction?

Kind regards, BeardedBee (talk) 14:08, September 14, 2010 (UTC)

Put them inside the link:
<span class="ttlink">[[{{{1}}}|<span style="color:red;">[{{{2|{{{1}}}}}}]</span>]]</span>
--PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 14:49, September 14, 2010 (UTC)

I was thinking along the lines of "quality=uncommon", as different items, like in WoW, have different link colours. I understand the tooltip needs to grab some info from the item page, but I'm a bit confused as to how to get this to work.. I think it might need some ajax? BeardedBee (talk) 15:10, September 14, 2010 (UTC)

...No, just edit the item template where the link is generated. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 15:11, September 14, 2010 (UTC)

It's not quite as eloquent a solution as the WoWwiki one, which grabs the info from the tooltip template on the item page. Is this very difficult to set up? BeardedBee (talk) 15:36, September 14, 2010 (UTC)

I wouldn't describe the WoWWiki solution as elegant. Simpler is better, and this way is simpler. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 15:37, September 14, 2010 (UTC)

In the same sense that for each time I link an item, I don't want to have to put in a link to its image to make the image appear as the tooltip, I'd rather have the colour stored rather than have to define the colour each time. Is there a simple way to do that? BeardedBee (talk) 15:43, September 14, 2010 (UTC)

In that case you will have to do something like WoWWiki's method, but it's not simple. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 15:45, September 14, 2010 (UTC)

Yeah which is why I came here for help really. I grabbed a bit from the css on the colours, though presume I'm missing a bit of js. Is there a way you could outline how to do it, what to copy paste etc? BeardedBee (talk) 15:53, September 14, 2010 (UTC)

Basically you will have to include the quality from the item much as you are currently getting the image. Use a parameter to switch between getting the image and getting the quality. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 16:00, September 14, 2010 (UTC)

I tried that here, using the colour css for quality that I copied from WoWWiki.. though I'm unsure how they're applied. Hmm.. BeardedBee (talk) 16:09, September 14, 2010 (UTC)

That won't work, you'll have to onlyinclude the entire tooltip and switch between parameters using something like the mode parameter on WoWWiki. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 16:11, September 14, 2010 (UTC)

I'm afraid I'm baffled by it; I have a limited understanding of MediaWiki templates. Could you point me to where I can learn about it? BeardedBee (talk) 16:24, September 14, 2010 (UTC)

It's advanced stuff, pretty sure there's not a tutorial on it. But you can check out metawikipedia:Help:Template. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 16:28, September 14, 2010 (UTC)

I'll do my best, thanks again for your time and help. BeardedBee (talk) 16:31, September 14, 2010 (UTC)

I think I'm close to something, with a lot of unnecessary code. At the moment I have an item link appearing in the way I like, though the tooltip of the image isn't appearing. Is there any chance you can have a look at the templates and stick something in? It seems like it's something which isn't too difficult for the experienced, though is quite beyond me. Template:Item Template:Tooltip test item page. Kind regards BeardedBee (talk) 18:02, September 16, 2010 (UTC)

Sorry to bother you again, but when I hover over a link it doesn't display the custom tooltip, but says "(item name) is a (quality) item" as a standard browser tooltip. I saw this problem on another wiki asking for help here. I can't find what's missing in calling the tooltip. Any chance you could help? BeardedBee (talk) 14:04, September 21, 2010 (UTC)

Sounds like the JavaScript isn't running at all. And from looking at it, you're using an old version of the tooltip JS. It might be helpful to update to the current version at MediaWiki:Common.js. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 00:46, September 23, 2010 (UTC)

{{proftip}} Linkage

While working on the Inv inscription tradeskill01 [Minor Inscription Research] page I corrected the main tooltip to make it a proper Profession tooltip (it was formerly an Ability tooltip), as per the Template:Proftip page. However, I can't find any proper linking/mouseover format for that type of tooltip. The common ability and [loot] link formats just generate error mouseovers.

Is there a working mouseover link format for {{proftip}}? I can't find one on any of the pages that link such recipes, like the Alchemy transmutations -- they're all just straight links. And {{proftip}} isn't even listed on the Help:Tooltips page. I'd be grateful for any direction you can give me. Joeartguy (talk) 16:46, September 14, 2010 (UTC)

Nothing designed for proftip, though you are welcome to make one. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 16:48, September 14, 2010 (UTC)
My comprehension of Javascript is primitive. I may attempt it at some time when my understanding of its interaction in the wiki is more complete. Joeartguy (talk) 21:58, September 14, 2010 (UTC)

TCG Card boilerplate

Is there one? That said, if not, what's a good starting place to learn how to make one, besides cloning an existing one? the TCG cards are woefully lacking in many sets. -=- IconSmall DrakeAzure Drazisil [t/c] 17:37, September 21, 2010 (UTC)

I made this as an experiment of how an ability card article would look like. It could need some work though. Feel free to change what you might think is necessary at the template. --g0urra[T҂C] 18:57, September 21, 2010 (UTC)
That easy? I thought it required parser switches and such. Guess I'm not as recovered from the flu as I thought. Thanks. -=- IconSmall DrakeAzure Drazisil [t/c] 22:33, September 21, 2010 (UTC)

Template:Text to support quality colors

I assume that would require a CSS edit, correct? I can't see where the colors are set otherwise. -=- IconSmall DrakeAzure Drazisil [t/c] 23:32, September 21, 2010 (UTC)

Yeah they're in MediaWiki:Common.css under /* Item Quality Colors */ - BeardedBee (talk) 00:33, September 23, 2010 (UTC)

You could just edit the template to use the CSS class already specified though... --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 00:38, September 23, 2010 (UTC)

JC Trainers in Cat

You made an edit to the Jewelcrafting page indicating that JC trainers would be added to other major capitals in Cataclysm. I haven't heard mention of this myself, and a quick search on both the NA and EU forums reveals nothing. I can't find an official source for this information - could you tell me where you found it? About the mirror patching

The Blizzard downloader wont download 3.2.0 to 3.3.0. I looked on the mirror patch page and couldnt not find 3.2.0. Should I just download the patches after that or do you know where i can find 3.2.0.

thanks

Thanks for moving that character page I was trying to make. I didn't realize that when I made a link to a subpage of my user page that I should put User: in the link (I thought it would be implied).

I caught on when I saw the notification about the page being moved/deleted/edited while I was working on it. ;) Sorry for the trouble! --Gilmoreja (talk) 17:13, October 9, 2010 (UTC)

Patch Running

I did run them after installing was finished it brings up the blizzard downloader and it sits at 0% and still says tracker is not responding --Illithenoob (talk) 12:29, October 10, 2010 (UTC)

Does it say what it is downloading? --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 12:30, October 10, 2010 (UTC)
on the wow launcher instead of saying the 3.2.0 now it reads v3.3.0. 10958 it downloads, then blizzed comes up it says "Downloading "./"..." 0.00 bytes of 10.9 MB --Illithenoob (talk) 12:35, October 10, 2010 (UTC)
So then you need to keep downloading the patches, proceeding from 3.3.0a and keep going up. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 12:39, October 10, 2010 (UTC)

Will Wikia be vindictive?

This is my major concern - you've all but said "we're leaving", and they seem to be taking their sweet time with the data dumps you've requested. What if they don't plan on allowing them at all, but instead give the rest of us the boot? If it's true and the Wikia admins are deleting posts about the new skin causing headaches and eye issues, how far would it be for them to ban the lot of us?

Just a thought... Joshmaul (talk) 14:49, October 13, 2010 (UTC)

Don't worry, we will be moving. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 14:51, October 13, 2010 (UTC)

PCJ Bot and personal talk pages

PCJ seems to feel it's useful to edit cruft it left before on a personal talk page. This makes me think someone wants to communicate with me, but then it turns out to be a bot edit, and one that it is essentially content-free to a human. I'd rather bots not edit my talk page. On wikipedia there is an established protocol for requesting that this not occur. Do we have the same sort of protocol here? Does PCJ have a specific protocol that it will listen to regarding a request for no robot updates? JoshuaRodman (talk) 15:56, October 13, 2010 (UTC)

You shouldn't be getting notifications when bots edit your page. There is no such template on WoWWiki, but you should be exempt now from most bot edits since you cleaned off your page. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 15:58, October 13, 2010 (UTC)

wowwiki domain name history

Could you describe the history of the wowwiki.com domain name? How did Wikia get ownership of the name itself? (Was it required in the deal, for wikia to start hosting us?) Who owned it beforehand?

Also, I've created Forum:Technical: Alternative funding for wowwiki. I'd like to know how much it will cost on a continuing basis to maintain wowwiki in some useable state; plans for maintenance of the infrastructure; plans for generating the revenue to make that work.

We really need a pledge week... --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 20:50, October 13, 2010 (UTC)

Hosting Idea

Hi PCJ, I've been using WoWWIKI forever now, although I just recently created an account it, and I know you guys are looking for a solution to hosting, should you leave Wikia. I was wondering if I can put another option on the table, but I'd rather explain it in private. I personally would like to help out and maybe I can. If you want to shoot me an email send it to seth [dot] orion [at] gmail [dot] com I can explain and you can decide where to go from there. Either way, I wish you guys the best! The site has been extremely beneficial to me over the years, thank you and all who have put in the time and effort!

Existence WoWWiki

How long will WoWWiki be online yet? I may want to copy/paste articles from there when the articles there are more recent than those that have already been copied to here. Hans Kamp (talk) 19:10, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
