Instance Entry Addition Suggestions

I noticed an Instance doorway near Northdale in EPL. There's a lone Blood Elf standing there, which may be some future quest giver. Is an entry in future instances appropriate for this situation?
--Thantul 11:33, 5 March 2007 (EST)
I do believe the portal you're talking about is the portal to Ghostlands, put in place to prevent non-expansion owners from entering. --Adonzo 23:35, 9 March 2007 (EST)
Shouldn't The Scepter of Celebras be added under Keys for Mara?

Levels

The levels on section 3 of this page were indications of the approximate mob levels. I had mistaken this for a recommended level for trying the instance, which caused problems in grouping. To prevent this problem for others, I changed them to the recommended levels listed on Atlas. -mar0

I edited Instances_by_Level to become more consistent with the Blizzard recommended player levels. I'm not sure what mar0 is referring to by the "Atlas" above - I don't actually have this in my possession.

Atlas is an instance map AddOn. --Fandyllic (talk) 11:25 PM PDT 16 Oct 2006

What about adding the minimum level limit to enter the instances? I had to find out I could not get certain recipes from dungeons because I was too low to enter them, after a group of friends had to help clear the area in front.

Limits I know of: RFD: 25 Scholo: 45 ZG: 50 and Raided -Lindorm

Guides

I noticed that most of the guides for instances link outside of WoWwiki. Do we want to bring them "in-house" for better maintenance? --Dracomage 12:38, 26 April 2006 (EDT)

  • I would think so - only database-level stuff is best left offsite (items, etc) as there's not much room for discussion with those. For instance walkthroughs and the like, this is exactly the right environment because they're highly subjective. - Tidywave 12:46, 26 April 2006 (EDT)
    • Any advice on how to bring them over? Contact original writer and obtain permission? Not to sure on what out in Wild Web is "public domain" or "free resource".--Dracomage 13:11, 26 April 2006 (EDT)

Guides vs. Quests

Should this perhaps be renamed "Instance guides", as it does not actually cover the instance quests? -- Kirkburn 14:23, 31 May 2006 (EDT)

Player Limits

World Dungeons is my reference for adding some unusual 5 player limits. StrCat 14 July 2006

Mysterious Stormwind Instance

Is there a name or any idea what the grated instance portal in Stormwind will be? --Fandyllic (talk) 11:22 PM PDT 16 oct 2006

There's rumor of a second stockades, one with more severe criminals, or perhaps player housing instance CJ 07:14, 2 November 2006 (EST)

Tables

hm, perhaps we could fit some info into a table instead. it looks so bulky right now.

name Alliance Horde Aka Location Mob lvl lvl Player limit Prerequisites Endboss Guide
The Deadmines Alliance DM, VC Westfall, town of Moonbrook 15-20 17-26 10 Pass through Moonbrook and mine before instance. Edwin VanCleef Instance Guide:The Deadmines

Too much data to fit in a table atm... so perhaps we could move some of the stuff to their individual pages. Smaller:

Name AKA Location Mob lvl Players Endboss
The Deadmines DM, VC Westfall 15-20 10 Edwin VanCleef

Thoughts? CJ 06:39, 2 November 2006 (EST)

The second table is more condense. Instances are not faction based. A horde player can get into Stockades, as the same as an alliance can get into Ragefire Chasm. Good job on that note. My opinion on slight modifcations

Name A.K.A. Location Meeting Stone Level Item/Quest Requirement Player Limit Endboss Map Guide

Meeting Stone level is what it says in game, trying to stay within boundries of the game rather than guide advice. Item/Quest prerequisites can be used. Helps for linking.

Since the tables are going to be read verical, seperation by contient will be eaiser. Burning Crusade instances can be added to the following categories and edited as the expansion is released to reduce clutter. Eastern Kingdoms, Kalimdor, Outland. Of course, this might lead to a page re-design.

--Yuki 12:01, 2 November 2006 (EST)

"Of course, this might lead to a page re-design"

That's the idea. a wiki is a constant evolving thing.
and i agree the faction markers are pretty pointless.

Minor Confusion DM is not VC a name for VC. Dm is Dire Maul VC is The Deadmines. We should not confuse people. Read the VC page. StrCat 16:26, 15 December 2006 (EST)

I certainly used DM for Deadmines on LFG before I even knew Dire Maul existed. Higher-level players imposed VC as an acronym for it, not the newbies. Qii 16:30, 15 December 2006 (EST)
TD would make more sense than VC. If you're creating acronyms for areas then they should follow suit otherwise people won't remember them. VC doesn't make sense when compared to the acronyms for other instances. Manawydan 14:51, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
This page should reflect what people actually call it, not what we want them to call it. Kirkburn talk contr 23:41, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
Depending on the server you're on and the people you talk to will dictate what they are called. I use DM for Deadmines and Dire Maul, but I don't expect to see requests for Dire Maul in Westfall and Deadmines in Feralas. Manawydan 15:52, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

Where did VC come from anyway? Also it should have Scarlet Commander Mograine as the main boss in SM (although each wing has it's own boss). Fellord 20:30, 29 May 2007 (GMT+8)

Unbreakable Aggro

It seems that you can't break aggro in instances? I had 4 enemies chasing me the entire length of RFK. I had to exit the freaking instance. WTF dude?  :'(

-For the most part is true, the only exception I have noticed so far is SM Library, some of the mobs will break off and go back to their normal spots when running to the end. --Donjo 14:55, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

Approximate Instance Times

I was thinking it would be nice if approximate run times were added to the "general" info section for each instance. Anyone else? I realize I could probably just do it, but the more input we get the more accurate the times will be.

That could become more confusing than helpful when you have a full list of "We did it in an hour", "We did it in 50 mins", "We did it in 40 mins", "We took two hours because our healer was a n00b" etc. Manawydan 14:44, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
He's suggesting an approximate time for groups, not "what we did it in". Kirkburn talk contr 23:40, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
I saw that - but as I've pointed out, an approximate time for one group won't be viable for another. Skills, classes, playing styles, player abilities, equipment are all factors that dictate how long an instance can last. For example, a 45 min Baron run was difficult for many. Now it can be done in half the time due to levels/equipment/experience. While we're only talking about 20 mins there, other instances could have an average of 60 mins to 180 mins. Not really much use and to have an average, you've got to ask people how long they did it in. Manawydan 15:57, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

Reputation gains

I think it would be helpful to know which instances gave reputation gains - for which faction, and up to what rep level. I have this information ready to go, if there's no objections I'll put it up as a draft. ygrzl 11:51, 20 April 2007 (AEST)

Level Recommendations

Some of the level recommendations for the instances seem kind of off. A level 29 character would get slaughtered in Scarlet Monastery; they might be passable in the graveyard, but in the other wings they wouldn't even be able to hit the mobs. I'm aware that the level ranges come from Atlas, but perhaps they could be reexamined? The column header says "Advised Level", and I would -not- advise that anyone go anywhere near the mid-level instances at their minimum "advised levels". Most instances are really optimal for level ranges of maybe four or five, tops; we don't necessarily need 8-level advised level ranges.

Utgarde

Removed Utgarde Keep from the Possible future instances list, now that it's in the Northrend instance list. --Shinny 21:09, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

Question

Wasn't there a mention of Icecrown Glacier, Uluar, Azjol-Nerub, Nexus, and Grizzlemaw; possibly even Uldum being opened in WLK. If so shouldn't they be moved out of possibles and into actuals if we are already including Utgrade Keep on the list. Sardac 21:00, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

Color

I put Old Strat on the Kalimdor list, but I think the blue I chose for the bg is too bright, feel free to tone it down. --Shinny 13:42, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

Two issues

1. Shouldn't Dire Maul be split, much like Scarlet Monastery is? They are independent instances, and the key requirement isn't valid for all parts.

2. The 4 Auchindoun instances have Bone Wastes as their location, whereas all other instances use the name of the complete zone, which in this case would be Terokkar Forest. Is this WAI? --bfx 12:25, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

Ninja'ing

As with all instances, the reason why you go is to get really good items. But, people have found ways to get what they want called Ninja'ing an item. To ninja an item means to get, or "Need" the item from an instance, raid, or party, and then leave the group with said item. As this happens many times, you will be ninja'd at least once in your WoW life. It happens every day, and mainly with blue drop, or rare quality items. It doesn't happen as much with instance that are around the 20-30 range, as those instances are easy and easily runnable by a level 70. But as you get into instances like Scarlet Monastery, Zul'farrak, and Sunken Temple, the items become more and more valueable, thus leading to a higher rate of Ninja'ing. Some ways to make sure this doesn't happen, get a level 70 to run you through, or go through with guild members or people you know in real life. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Illadin Stormrage (talk · contr).

Minimum Instance Levels

I think we should work on getting a column of the minimum level to enter an instance (as opposed to recommended lowest level). I'm a novice here so I don't really know the correct procedure but if someone else wants to get it started I can help contribute. --Donjo 14:56, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

Need a legend

There needs to be a legend briefly saying what exactly the difference between an instance marked 70, 70+, 70++, and 70+++ mean --Deathwish238 11:08, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

New Instance Levels

In patch 2.3, a lot of the instances were retuned, and the levels in this guide are completely off for some of them, such as Shadowfang Keep (mobs are now 18-21). What do you all think the new level ranges should be? My suggestion is from somewhere around 3-4 levels below the end boss (otherwise it's rather difficult for a party member to do damage, and their large aggro radius will pull lots of other groups), up to 2-3 levels higher. Another possible "top" point is a level or two above the actual gear that drops - some dungeons now drop gear that requires 3-4 levels higher than the bosses to use. Thoughts? --DemonEater 21:22, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

Player Limits

It strikes me as redundant to list the player limits for some instances as "5(10)". True the limit for a party in any given instance is five players if you do not convert to raid, but 5 is the upper limit of any party - this is a number of player limit table, so I think just listing "10" would suffice.--Pittsburghmuggle 10:55, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

Not really, the number in brackets is the maximum allowed, but the non bracketed number is the designed-for number, and the only way you can complete quests. Kirkburn  talk  contr 13:33, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
