When is this device usable?

On most of my toons, I simply bought Cold Weather Flying and off I went. I decided to try to get a Loaned Gryphon Reins on my warlock at level 77 from the NPC at the flight point at K3. It would not work. I received the error message, "You can't use that here." At first I thought the area surrounding K3 was not considered the Storm Peaks somehow, but later I tried it in the Sholazar Basin and it did not work there. I then realized I had never bothered to buy basic flying on my warlock. I immediately purchased it from the flying trainer in the Sholazar Basin. Now armed with basic flying, I tried to use the Loaned Gryphon Reins in the Sholazar Basin (right in the center). I received the error message, "You can't use that here."

So, what does it take to use this mount? Cold Weather Flying? That would make the loaner mount absolutely worthless. If you have a spare 1000 gold for Cold Weather Flying, buying a flying mount is nothing.

It does not require any riding skill to use, however, it's currently believed to be bugged as its been reported to only work with Cold Weather Flying... and since you can't get this item after buying Cold Weather Flying (you'd have to get it first) the assumption of it being bugged is right on. I pulled 1000 gold of my main and sent it to my Warlock. I bought Cold Weather Flying. The Loaned Gryphon Reins immediately began working. Eyrta (talk) 05:09, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
