Does anyone have info on the actual skill requirements for the various doors around the world? I didn't bother to even start trying picking them until I was at 285 skill, so all the values I was able to add are pretty limited. -Benthekuno

There was no link to this article when I came across Spell nature moonkey [Pick Lock] so I added the table there that I did. The tables in this article are better imo, so I'd suggest keeping them over the one that I made. ZZqA 14:05, 13 June 2006 (EDT)

Linking[]

I'm tempted to revert Beep's recent edit adding templated links to all boxes. This sort of thing just grows the 'wanted' list without any real purpose (are people dying to look up bronze lock boxes?!). Picking Doors[]

Also, straight from the GM's, doors now will only give you one skill point once, so no more SM or BRD grinding for skill.

This is false, I've gotten skill off the Scholomance door more than once, today. Pick the lock, go inside and pickpocket, come back out and pick the lock again. Enjoy. --Drolfeir 14:22, 16 November 2006 (EST)
It occurs to me that I may have been inside pick pocketting the students long enough for whatever cooldown to expire. I'll try picking the lock when I hit 63 and just waiting around until I can get skill on it again. --Drolfeir 01:30, 21 January 2007 (EST)
Confirmed false -- repeatedly picked the first 3 doors for skill, walked out and reset, then returned and did it again for more skill. Easiest skillpoints ever.  :) Ashdog137 23:47, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

Gallywix's Lockbox[]

Alther's Mill[]

The practice chests on the ground floor here are:

Orange at 1, Yellow at 30, Green at 55, Still green at 85 (yay level 17)

These numbers are (except for the last, obviously) exact thresholds as of 7.4.2007 on Die Nachtwache (EU/German Server).

I only have the german name here ("Übungsschließkassette"), so if someone with english WoW could add the relevant entry to the table, I'm sure it'd be useful to someone :-) Thanks. (These chests are occasionally (1 in 2 or 3) rigged with a kind of frost nova trap, 9s (10?) frozen in place; no damage, can't move, can continue to practice on other reachable locks though, so not really an annoyance at all :-) --Sallick 06:42, 7 April 2007 (EDT)

I've found that at all the places listed with footlockers, there usually is between 3-7 footlockers that spawn all around a wide area and it can take a while to get your skill up entirely off them. Instead, I found that pickpocketing the mobs nets you lockboxes of approximately the same level (sometimes lower). When I hit 260 skill and went to Tyr's Hand, I started just pickpocketing all the mobs (and on my server theres tons since EPL is dead, most level 58's go straight to Outland, and no one really farms Tyrs Hand anymore).

There are so many mobs that I started getting massive amounts of Heavy Junkboxes which are yellow at 286, and orange at approx 270. Just stealthing around, pickpocketing is much faster and once you see a locker, just clear the mobs out and take it. If you make a nice pattern, the pickpocket loot tables reset every 5-10 minutes so you can just go in circles and PP mobs one after the other, just keep track of where you've been and try to give each mob enough time to reset its picpocket loot table. Added: (Note: The above mentioned chest are not faction specific. If preferred Alliance characters could just as easily skillup lockpicking on chests found in the ship at the Merchant Coast. Scholomance[]

There's a conflict between this page and the Skeleton Key page over the door to Scholomance. This page says that Skeleton Keys can, while the Skeleton Key page says they can't. Anyone with a blacksmith mind helping out? --Darth603 11:22, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

hi darth i'm a lev 70 375 blacksmith and the answer to your question is this.....there is a quest chain you can complete which will get you the 'skeleton key' which will open the door to scholmace, the door cannot be opened with a blacksmith made skeleton key. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by PSYCHOSISNUT (talk · contr).

Durnholde Keep[]

There are also Battered Footlockers laying around on the ground in Durnholde Keep that are Yellow to a Rogue with 100 Lockpicking skill. Mrmadison (talk) 15:51, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

Shadowforge Gate[]

A comment was left on the paragraph about picking the shadowforge gates in BRD...

Needlessly complex leveling guide?[]

As an Alliance player, I've found the leveling guide to be needlessly complex so far: You can get easily to 160 (I went to 165, but the skill-ups drop off dramatically after 160) in Redridge, 230 in Desolace and way beyond 250 in Searing Gorge. Even with the added missed skill-ups, you still save a ton of traveling time. I think the guide writer assumes that skill-ups from green lockers are as bad as from tradeskills in general, which isn't the case: Footlockers freshly turned green still provide almost 1:1 skill-ups, the odds only falling as they get closer to turning gray. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by GNiko (talk · contr).

Mist-Lords and Mistweavers?[]

This article states that the Kvaldir Mist-Lords and Mistweavers in western/southwestern Borean Tundra have upwards of 30% drop rate (when pickpocketing) for [Strong Junkbox]. I call shenanigans. I've been pickpocketing them for 30 minutes and I've only gotten one [Strong Junkbox]. A quick look on Thottbot confirms that these guys aren't even above 8% drop rate.

The Klaven's Tower Chest (Duskwood Chest)[]

As a level 35 rogue with 155 Lockpicking skill I cannot find any way to interact with this chest. I have tried activating the Pick Lock skill and mousing over, but no dice: this chest refuses to be interacted with. However, WoWHead comments indicate some success by Rogues in late 2009, so I'd rather there were some confirmation of this by others before this section was changed. -- Enigbo (talk) 07:28, March 5, 2010 (UTC)

Sartheris Strand[]

The waterlogged footlockers in Sartheris Strand in Desolace are still green at 245 (yeah, I was a bit bored...), but the table doesn't show up when I'm trying to edit the page, so I can't change the value for them. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by GNiko (talk · contr).

Violet Hold[]

The cooldown for this door for a skill point is no more than 6 hours. This is a great way to get those last few points if you've run out of stashed lockboxes.
