Is there a reason why there are magelo ads all over wowwiki, since it is a violation of the terms of service? --Bomyne (talk) 11:37, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

I personally think they're more tasteful than Google ads.
That said, I would view this as essentially equivalent to ThottBot, Wowhead, WOWDB, and Allakhazam clients. Are those similarly violations of the ToS? This has always been ground wherein Blizzard has been hesitant to be specific, as they know such database sights are very popular and very helpful. Wowhead is recognized as an official fan site — WOWDB is part of Curse Gaming, which is similarly recognized, which suggests to me that the use of Magelo is fine. The section of the ToS referred to in the forum post in the article is more spirited rather than hard; I see it as a way for them to ban users of WoWGlider and other such hacking programs, rather than to ban users of Magelo and Wowhead. Does it possibly make it harder for Blizzard to ban Glider users? Possibly. Is Magelo on the wrong side of the ToS? Very likely not. --Sky (t · c · w) 11:50, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
Check the Magelo controversy part of this page. It's not really what Magelo does, it's how it does it. WoWhead, wowdb, etc, use addons to collect their data... Magelo is accessing the game's memory.--Bomyne (talk) 11:54, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
I find them incredibly irritating and I've seen them break the pages on more than a few occasions. Thank God for Adblock. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 04:07, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
