Pronunciation should be fixed. SHows up as either ?? in Firefox or a box and ? in IE. Also I think the ä should be a â or possibly a ă , although I don't know if there is a way to properly HTML that char.

Something like SKÔ - lô - mâns

--Actually, knowing the languages the name comes from, and the real-world legends associated with the name, I would say it's actually "SHO-lo-mance", with the "sch" being like the end of "Busch" instead of the beginning of "school". Just my 2 cents. --Steamboat28 (talk) 12:20, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

It's named after a real (well, real legendary) school of black magic in Transylvania. It's pronounced SKO-lomance. A) The origin is Germanic, which uses a lot of heavy sounds rather than soft sounds, B) it's a compound word (school of necromancy), and C) Blizzard says so. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 00:55, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

Strategies? Edit

No strategies? I'm shocked. RobertM525 00:37, 10 September 2006 (EDT)

It's not a very hard instance in the first place. The bosses aren't even all that hard, given an ok group. Pzychotix 10:59, 10 September 2006 (EDT)

The Mists one has changed a few things. First, the front door's not locked. The basic "Kill everyting in the room before you start on the bosses" usually works though. Interestingly the bosses of Scholomance aren't very aggressive - you can slaughter their students all around them, and they don't care unless you bump them.

Well actually some advice... for the first boss, when you're taking out the students around her, you absolutely MUST go for the acolyytes and neophytes first. With all the spirits they summon, auto-aim may not be enough, so keep making sure you're on the students. If you kill them the spirits go down easy. You can also kill the students syphoning the energy without aggroing her. When you're ready, this boss is a battle against time to beat her ice wall.

The Illusion room is pretty standard. The skeletons are weak but there's a lot of them, and don't forget the students. Take them out before you start on the teacher. She's got an illusion attack that can be a little confusing but nothing special.

The Bone room is simple until you take out all the students and get to Rattlegore. He's slow and has no range attacks, but he's got a powerful knockback. Don't let him back you into a corner. And when he knocks you back, use range attacks, Heal, or find a better position. No hurry to engage; he'll reach you eventually. Using the bone piles is also advised, since they protect you somewhat from his heavy attack, but don't let yourself get distracted.

Killing Rattlegore is also a repeatable quest for a member of the Argent Dawn in the Eastern Plauguelands, in the graveyard behind Light's Hope. You might like to pick up that quest too whenever you do Scholomance, for 2200 Argent reputation.

In the Butcher room, the butchers go down easy but the big beasts don't seem to be killable. Fortunately you don't need to kill them and they're not all that interested in you; just pull the butchers as usual, destroy the book, walk around them and move on. There's a big chest just past them.

In the Speaking chamber, the bored students are totally non-aggressive (even though they're red) and don't move from their seats. Ignore them and they'll ignore you even as you kill their teacher. If you hit them with an AOE they tend to gang up on you though.

When the Headmaster takes over Lillian, she's durable but her attacks are weak. She gets a bit confusing when he's messing with her soul but keep going. Don't worry about the Headmaster. You'll encounter him properly in a different room, giving you time to heal. And as long as you focus on him, he goes down pretty easy for a final boss, compared to the others. Warlocks take note! Edit

Added a note that warlocks MUST use the alchemy lab here for Imp Delivery.

Ras Frostwhisper Edit

The 3 quests for the sarkoffs doesn't really link well with the Ras Frostwhisper chain, other than as a prerequisite, IMO. --Eirik Ratcatcher 23:11, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

Front Door Edit

You can no longer open the door from inside without the key, so all party members need to do the rez inside trick in order to enter without the key. --Danni314 02:33, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

Oh, really? The torch no longer works without the key? --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 20:17, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
I don't even wanna know how a torch would open with a key. IconSmall WolvarBig, furry, and insane (Have a conversation with the homocidal furry!) (Come and stalk me! ...No, wait, please don't.) 20:22, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
The torch inside the door acts as a secret switch to open the door. It still works. SmashAdam (talk) 02:03, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
The question was actually "can you use the torch, without having the door key"? --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 17:54, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
