I think the searing totem (like the fire and earth elemental) picks its target based on which target is causing you the most threat (if you were an NPC, the target you would attack). This is why if you pull a taget the searing totem will not attack until the target actually hits you, but if you are not in combat, then you get face pull threat which causes the totem to attack targets when you are not in combat.--Subanark 19:29, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
