Destruction?Edit

It's section really needs to be updated. Destruction deals more damage with shadow bolt spamming than with a fire rotation. They tend to go into the demonology tree far enough to have Demonic Sacrifice, and no need to control their pet. Aragdar 00:38, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

AnalysisEdit

I just reworked a ton of the Affliction->Analysis section, using knowledge from the official forums and Maso's guide [1]. To make it concise, I removed/rewrote some entries that would be considered incorrect or misleading by the board populations. I'll redo the Demonology and Destruction trees as well, at a later time. If I stomped an entry you feel is a highly valuable point of view, feel free to incorporate it back in. Hail the Wiki Way! -- TheMaster42 19:28, 4 May 2006 (EDT)

Just a change to IDS here based on my experiences. Also, IDS allows you to regen mana at 50% during the 5 second rule. It's a great talent if you solo with the giant blue marshmellow, but only because he swings like a girl :D --Arandmoor 15:27, 5 May 2006 (EDT)
Excellent! I didn't know that you regen 50% during those 5 seconds; I'll include that information. I don't understand, though, why this talent is better or worse if you're using the voidwalker...? -- TheMaster42 17:40, 5 May 2006 (EDT)
Because the VW is built to take damage rather than deal it. In order for IDS to proc (presently...might change in 2.0) the Drain Soul spell itself has to inflict the killing blow (or not...seems to change from patch to patch from DS to the warlock needing the KB). The easiest way, IME, to trigger the effect is by timing your DS to proc the KB, or by timing your other dots to run out just before the mob dies so that the only things hitting the mob for the last 4% of its life or so is IDS and your VW (takes practice...I had them both down to a science myself...procced IDS every fight for about 40 levels). The problem with the other pets is that their DPS is too high to make technique #1 phesiable, or by losing aggro at a bad moment and allowing the mob in question to interrupt your channeling of IDS (screwing up techique #2). The VW neatly avoids these problems by 1) not hitting hard, and 2) by being 'much' better at holding aggro and keeping the mobs right where you want them.--Arandmoor 22:11, 15 September 2006 (EDT)
I edited it again, moving around some of the information, and including the 50% for 5-seconds info you provided. I think I kept everything, but feel free to re-edit if you feel I didn't cover the information properly. =) -- TheMaster42 17:46, 5 May 2006 (EDT)

Improved Drain SoulEdit

Improved Drain Soul does not work properly at the moment. -- OwlBoy

A Blizzard employee has commented that it is, indeed, working properly, that this was how it was intended to work. No comment on whether it will change in the future or not. -- Leden

I also recall somebody from Blizzard saying that IDS was working as intended, by which I mean "annoying as intended." I used to have this talent and never saw it proc once.

CopyeditEdit

How's the new page look? I'm still trying to get all the talent info/humor from the old page into the new talent pages. I was going to do some of that yesterday, but I finally finished my finals for this quarter and hadn't played WoW in a week and a half so... One thing about the talent pages, I set up a template for the pages themselves, but I'm not too sure that's the best way to go because it can make editing them a bit of a pain. If you click a section edit, you get nothing but the variable insert from the template (Eg. {{{1}}}, etc...) which means you can really only edit them from the edit button on the top of the page. It's not that big of a deal though because the talent pages aren't that long. I did find that quote marks screw things up royally though...and you can't have a template within a template (I found that out the hard way...about 15 pages in...) It's only a real big deal on talents that are also spells. It means that adding the spell costs is impossible. If anyone wants to de-template the pages of talents that are also spells, feel free. IIRC, we've only got 2. --Arandmoor 14:52, 9 Dec 2005 (EST)

The page looks pretty good. The atributes for Improved Enslave Demon are incorrect but I don't know how to edit somethin iside of one of those tables. Can some one fix it and/or post how to fix it. Currently is says "Reduces the Attack Speed and Casting Speed penalty of your Enslave Demon spell by 2%..." But that should be "2%/4%/6%/8%/10%". --Evil Iggy 11:28, 23 Jan 2006 (EST)

When I designed the new layout I was having some problems with the tables. I couldn't get a template-structure going for them because a mediaWiki page can only handle a certain number of templates per page, and I didn't like how they cluttered up the edit page for the Warlock_Talents page. So they became their own templates. If you want to edit the tables themselves, hit the edit tag at the top of their section, and down at the bottom there's a link to them under the "Templates used on this page:" section.

DemonologyEdit

I gave the Demonology section some love. Most of the entries were blank there. --Snackriddle

Popular BuildsEdit

I gave the popular builds section some attention. IMO, some of them deserve a lot more room than they had, but the talents page was cluttered enough as is. On top of that, with Warlocks being one of the (if not the) most complicated classes in the game to play there was an astonishingly small ammount of build information presented. So I moved the builds to their own pages and gave them some structure. Feel free to have at them.
I haven't gotten to Heavy Destruction yet...feel free to make a page for it...someone...--Arandmoor 01:31, 13 Feb 2006 (EST)

Talent Template Edit

Here's the template for the talent sub-pages along with short descriptions of what goes where.</br> If you want to see the Template Page itself, it's right there.

Anyway...

{{Template:WarlockTdh|*Level Required*|*Talent Classification*

|<!-- DON'T DELETE THE PIPE! -->
*Cinematic/Humerous Talent Description*

|<!-- DON'T DELETE THE PIPE! -->
*Talent Functionality*

|<!-- DON'T DELETE THE PIPE! -->
*Talent Notes*

}}<!-- DON'T DELETE THE BRACKETS! -->

Crunching the page Edit

The tables look fine when they can take up the whole page.
When they're crunched to the left, they look like crap.--Arandmoor 00:29, 18 March 2006 (EST)

Why did the templates get blown away? Edit

Pcj just blew away all the talent templates and cut'n'pasted the contents inline instead, marked as a "Minor" edit. Why? --Mekkapiano 01:25, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

Because we don't use templates like that on WoWWiki. --Pcj (TC) 01:39, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Destruction Talent Advice Edit

Removed this line:

  • Try this for some PvP fun! Seduce, lay Curse of the Elements, go to maximum range, cast Soul Fire, while Soul Fire is en route, cast Immolate; they should hit about the same time. If either crits, your target is in a lot of trouble (thanks to Ruin) and will normally panic. You now have 5 instant cast spells you can unleash on them, 2 DOTs (CoA and improved Corruption if you have it)) and 3 burst damage spells (Shadowburn, Conflag and Death Coil), and you can charge or retreat at your leisure. Add insult to injury by using Drain Soul to replace the shard you used on Soul Fire!

It's general warlock PvP advice and has little to do with warlock talents. Arandmoor 01:38, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

Firelocks Edit

These articles talk very highly of fire being the way to play destro, while almost any serious raiding destro lock uses shadowbolts. Better scaling, improved shadowbolt and shadowpriest synergy are benifits that warlocks that use fire do not reap. While irrespective of builds, if you have 2 warlocks, curse of elements is likely to be used for a 25 man with more than 2 heavy fire users.

The maths of conflag versus incin are also indicative that the DP/CT is not worth it. Fire is not useless but it's definately not the primary destruction lock's weapon of choice. Infact immolate is used far more by serious affliction locks than high end destro ones (who past a certain point find shadowbolt's scaling means only a curses and shadowbolt will be left in an optimal rotation)
