WotLK compatibility question

I'm assuming Image:Rep_revered_icon_18x18.png means that the AddOn still needs to have its .toc updated (## Interface: 30000)? Should we use a WotLK with a link to any that are pre-modified to work with the beta unchanged? --Image:gengar orange 22x22.png Fandyllic (talk · contr) 8:39 AM PST 29 Aug 2008

AddOns using that icon may or may not need a toc update. I know the link to Gossipmonger, for instance, is to a WotLK-beta-specific version that actually won't work on Live. (I know because I wrote it.) In any case, it would probably be a good idea to use that icon for those that were updated for the beta and work decently-enough. -- Tuhljin (talk) 19:44, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
The icon simply means it's compatible, not that the author has updated the TOC. For your own addons it's up to you how you wish to handle it, I personally always release with the TOC number I tested the addon on. This means I have a number of 30000 releases out there currently, even though they work on live as well. If you're thinking about changing TOC numbers on addons that aren't your own, just stop right there. TeжubԎ Ҩ Ѡ 21:11, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
Okay, I may make a smaller special icon based on WotLK for AddOns that have been specifically updated by their authors to be compaible or better with the expansion. It would be nice to know which AddOns have been specifically developed and tested with WotLK in mind. --Image:gengar orange 22x22.png Fandyllic (talk · contr) 4:19 PM PST 29 Aug 2008
I made Image:Wrath-W-Small.png, but I'm not sure I'm happy with how it looks. It should do for now. --Image:gengar orange 22x22.png Fandyllic (talk · contr) 4:31 PM PST 29 Aug 2008

Some addons are working fine even though you might get the odd error (esp at startup). I don't see why these shouldn't be "Image:Rep_revered_icon_18x18.png" Oh, and I prefer the simple-icon system :) -- Niightblade (talk)
Any errors may hint at more serious problems. Until the author explains what the errors mean, Image:Rep_revered_icon_18x18.png seems inappropriate. --Image:gengar orange 22x22.png Fandyllic (talk · contr) 7:39 PM PST 30 Aug 2008
Image:Rep_revered_icon_18x18.png says to me "100% compatible". Errors ~= 100%. Image:Rep_neutral_icon_18x18.png says to me "it works, but..." TeжubԎ Ҩ Ѡ 04:45, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
I see your point(s), and I agree if the mod has broken bits but mostly works, yes Image:Rep_neutral_icon_18x18.png is appropriate, but a single error or two at startup that otherwise have no impact on anything = "99.98% compatible" which screams Image:Rep_revered_icon_18x18.png to me. -- Niightblade (talk)

Recommended legend for colored face icons (originally for rep)

Recommended legend:
Image:Rep hated icon 18x18.png – Not compatible with WotLK beta at all and completely broken; breaks other WotLK functionality; doesn't work and gives multiple errors.
Image:Rep hostile icon 18x18.png – Slightly compatible with WotLK beta and only has some minor functionality working, but not worth using; may break other WotLK functionality; partially working and gives errors.
Image:Rep unfriendly icon 18x18.png – Might work in some cases with WotLK beta; gives at least one error.
Image:Rep neutral icon 18x18.png – Might be compatible with WotLK beta, but doesn't work well or works partially, but not usefully; doesn't doesn't give errors.
Image:Rep friendly icon 18x18.png – Mostly-compatible with WotLK beta, but might be missing some functionality or not fully tested; doesn't give errors.
Image:Rep honored icon 18x18.png – Compatible with WotLK beta with only some minor functionality missing; doesn't give errors.
Image:Rep revered icon 18x18.png – Compatible with WotLK beta with near full functionality and data with WotLK in mind; doesn't give errors.
Image:Rep exalted icon 18x18.png – Compatible with WotLK beta with full functionality and possibly optimized for WotLK; doesn't give errors.
Simple subset legend:
Image:Rep hated icon 18x18.png – Not compatible with WotLK beta and moslty or completely broken; possibly breaks other WotLK functionality; gives one or more errors.
Image:Rep neutral icon 18x18.png – Might be compatible with WotLK beta, but doesn't work well or works partially; doesn't give errors or one error with no obvious problems.
Image:Rep revered icon 18x18.png – Compatible with WotLK beta with near full functionality and data with WotLK in mind; doesn't give errors.

Does this sound okay? I wanted to put a stake in the ground, so there was some consistency with how these icons were interpreted. --Image:gengar orange 22x22.png Fandyllic (talk · contr) 4:19 PM PST 29 Aug 2008

You can also use Image:Wrath-W-Small.png ([[Image:Wrath-W-Small.png]]) to indicate AddOns where the developer specifically tested or optimized for WotLK. --Image:gengar orange 22x22.png Fandyllic (talk · contr) 4:33 PM PST 29 Aug 2008
I think that's making things way to complex. All people care about is broken/works with errors/works without errors. Addons with 30000 TOCs can use your icon, or the "Exalted" one. TeжubԎ Ҩ Ѡ 03:10, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
