Template:AbilityFlavor

From WoWWiki

What is "flavor"? Flavor text is the term that Wizards of the Coast assigned to lore that adds nothing to the function of a collectible game card, yet is included on the card to increase excitement ... excitement not conveyed by numbers and instructions. I can think of no better name for it.

This template is intended for the top of every ability page, usually appearing as the first text of the article, unless there's a disambiguation.

Its purpose is to:

  • enforce consistent formatting of flavor text for abilities, i.e., indent, italicize.
  • cut down on space dedicated to flavor text, for the reasons discussed at the WW:VP#Spell_sayings.

Invoke this template with only one parameter - the flavor text phrase - if only one sample of flavor text has been discovered for the ability.

Invoke the template with NO parameter in order to transclude a /Flavor subpage for the ability. This will permit multiple flavor texts to occupy the same space through <choose><option> technology. N.B.: Right now, the prevailing thought is that this scenario would only occur if two citable sources provide flavor to the ability in question, e.g., Fires of Outland and the Roleplaying Game.

Please do not delete this template until administration / watchdogs have determined its worth. :-)

Example:
{{AbilityFlavor|Sadly this text has no flavor.}}
{{AbilityFlavor}}
Output:
Sadly this text has no flavor...
Sadly this subpage has no flavor...

Sadly this subpage has no flavor...
