This article contains lore taken from Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness, Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal, the manuals, and/or official bonus maps.

Thandol Valley is the name of the region surrounding the great bridges of the Thandol Span. These bridges passes through the natural canal that separates Lordaeron from Khaz Modan.

Second War[]

Following their defeat at Dun Modr, the orcs were forced to retreat south, across the Thandol Valley to a secondary outpost at Dun Algaz. Anduin Lothar, hoping to push the orcs even further back into Khaz Modan, ordered the destruction of the outpost.[1]

Trivia[]

  • The Warcraft II game demo has a mission called Thandol that is situated in Khaz Modan. If not a separate location, it could be an earlier, production name for the area.
  • The name "Thandol Valley" hasn't been used since Warcraft II and might have been retconned out.
  • Dun Modr was originally depicted as north of the Thandol Span in older sources including Warcraft II and Day of the Dragon.[2] In World of Warcraft the early concept maps still followed that depiction, but the location of the city was eventually moved south of the Span.
  • Similarly, Dun Algaz was originally depicted in Warcraft II as on the southern end of the Span, a place currently occupied in World of Warcraft by Dun Modr.
  • In this concept map for Warcraft II, it is indicated a dam was in the region instead of a bridge. It may have inspired the Stonewrought Dam.
