The Bone Wastes
The Bone Wastes

The Bone Wastes is a desolate area of southern Terokkar Forest. According to the quest Neutral [70D] The Codex of Blood, it was formed two years ago when the Shadow Council blew up Auchindoun.

World PvP

In the instance wings of Auchindoun, you can collect [Spirit Shard]s by killing bosses while your faction (Alliance or Horde) controls the five Spirit Towers in the Bone Wastes. You can see the rewards you can exchange these tokens for at Terokkar Forest PvP Rewards.

Bone Wastes (Warcraft II)

Warcraft II This section concerns content exclusive to Warcraft II.
An earlier Bone Wastes was shown to have existed on Draenor about 20 years ago during "Beyond the Dark Portal", and was located where the Terokkar Forest currently exists.

This article or section includes speculation, observations or opinions possibly supported by lore or by Blizzard officials.
It should not be taken as representing official lore!

It is unknown if the earlier Bone Wastes was retconned out of continuity, or if the current Terokkar Forest (an older one existed at the time of Rise of the Horde) grew after the destruction of Draenor with the help of druid magic from the Cenarion Expedition druids stationed there, becoming one of the Green Havens of Outland.

Either way, it is clear from the earlier map that Fortress Auchindoun--formerly an orc stronghold of the Bleeding Hollow Clan located approximately where Shattrath and northern Terokkar Forest is now, and completely "razed" into "burning ruins" during a mission in Warcraft II . Its unclear if its location was shifted during destruction of Draenor, or simply by a retcon, but in anycase it appears to have been moved. Auchindoun is now located in the center of the (new) Bone Wastes and is said to have been a Draenei (not orcish) mausoleum before its destruction (it may have been used by the orcs as a fortress, however).

If one likes to think of WoW as realistic as possible, you can imagine that during the turmoil of the first and second wars, the carthographing of Outland was not as accurate as it is today when both Alliance and Horde have bases all over the place. Thus the locations of areas may be flawed on the old maps.
