Tracking refers to any ability which allows the player to track resource nodes or mobs on the mini-map. Only one tracking ability can be active at a time. A control on the border of the mini-map allows the player to choose which type of tracking to enable (or none).

The ability to track the mobs in World of Warcraft is usually the sole bailiwick of the hunter, although other classes have limited tracking capabilities as well. At advancing levels, the hunter can learn to track Beasts, Humanoids, the Undead, Hidden foes, Elementals, Demons, Giants, and Dragonkin.

−
When a mob-tracking ability is activated, every creature that fits the classification selected shows up on the mini-map as a labeled dot, color-coded to its friendliness (green) or hostility (red). Tracking can be used in a variety of ways to enhance the hunter's situational awareness. For instance, in an area populated by both beast and humanoid mobs, the hunter can switch between beast and humanoid tracking, and stay aware of where ~95% of the mobs are in his general vicinity. Tracking is also useful if one has to beat a hasty retreat to a rearward fortification for safety's sake. Just keep monitoring the mini-map while switching frequently between tracking modes to find the most aggro free escape route. You can also see the name of the mob (or player/pet) if you mouseover the dot on the minimap, which for instance makes finding one specific mob in a group of mobs easier.

Other classes which have class-specific tracking abilities include:

−
*Warlocks, who can sense Demons.

−
*Paladins, who can sense the Undead.

−
*Druids, who can track Humanoids while in Cat Form.

The entrance to Drak'Tharon Keep.

Drak'Tharon Keep contains 1 instance for level 74-76 players. Like Blackrock Mountain, Drak'Tharon connects two zones (the Grizzly Hills and Zul'Drak) in the northwest and southwest corners, respectively.

The undead Drakkari ice trolls have begun pouring from their stronghold of Drak'Tharon Keep, and are assaulting the furbolg. The invasion is oddly credited to the Drakkari themselves, not the Scourge.[1]

On heroic, it awards approximately 2000 reputation.

History

Drak'Tharon Keep was likely used as Mal'Ganis's base in the Third War. It was here he was "killed" by Arthas wielding Frostmourne.[2]

The Scourge controls Drak'Tharon Keep in the Grizzly Hills, just south of Zul'Drak's southwest corner.[3] This ancient stone citadel once belonged to the Drakkari trolls. The Drakkari built Drak'Tharon Keep before the furbolgs built Grizzlemaw. The Frostpaws gathered the tribes together in part to fend off the new Drakkari threat. Both races hated each other; with the new keep the Drakkari were more organized, and the trolls were more unified than the furbolgs, even though the furbolgs had greater numbers. The existence of Grizzlemaw affected the balance, and the furbolgs' victory over the Drakkari in a series of skirmishes may have led to the eventual loss of Drak'Tharon to the Scourge. The Scourge ultimately drove them out and took possession, and now the Scourge has a garrison here holding the mountain passes. It's a well-placed, solidly-built structure, and the small group of undead within can easily hold the keep against forces ten times its size, particularly since they don’t need food or water during a siege.[4] Two thousand Scourge creatures patrol the ruined old keep. They often fight Drakkari and occasionally furbolgs, though they have yet to attack either Gundrak or Grizzlemaw directly.[5] Armed Scourge patrols wander the countryside, scaring anyone they meet. These patrols either attack living people or act menacing to frighten them away.[3]

The keep itself is located in the icy northlands of Northrend, in the northwestern part of the Grizzly Hills. It is an ancient ice troll stronghold that has since been claimed by the Scourge. The undead control passage into the lands beyond from here.
