For millennia, Ulduar has remained undisturbed by mortals, far away from their concerns and their struggles. Yet since its recent discovery, many have wondered what the structure's original purpose may have been. Some thought it a city built to herald the glory of its makers; some thought it a vault containing innumerable treasures, perhaps even relics of the mighty Titans themselves. Such speculations were wrong. Beyond Ulduar's gates lies no city, no treasure vault, no final answer to the Titan's mysteries. All that awaits those who dare set foot in Ulduar is a horror even the Titans could not, would not destroy, an evil they merely... contained. Beneath ancient Ulduar, the Old God of death lies, whispering.... Tread carefully, or its prison will become your tomb. As the next step in tiered raid progression in Wrath of the Lich King, Ulduar is set to let players enjoy gorgeous setpieces, sprawling battlefields, and innovative boss encounters. Ulduar's design aims to provide a fun, unique, and innovative raid experience, and it includes additional challenges and rewards for seasoned raiders. In this sneak-peek at World of Warcraft's newest raid dungeon, we'll take a look at some of the new content that makes Ulduar stand out.

"Ulduar raid" is the currently unnamed raid dungeon of the Titan complex of Ulduar, located within The Storm Peaks. The dungeon is planned to be released in patch 3.1.0, the first content patch in the Wrath of the Lich King.[1] The Ulduar raid dungeon will be one grade in difficulty above Naxxramas.[2]

"Ulduar raid" will be divided into two separate raid wings, the final one only accessible after finishing the first one, similar to the Ruins and Temple of Ahn'Qiraj.

Encounters

The raid dungeon will consist of an entire fourteen encounters.[1] Eleven of them will have hard modes (different from normal and heroic modes), which will reward achievements and extra and/or improved item rewards.[1][3] One encounter will only have a hard mode.[3] Siege vehicles will play a role in the dungeon.[1]

Possible encounters

Questionmark-medium
This article or section includes speculation, observations or opinions possibly supported by lore or by Blizzard officials. It should not be taken as representing official lore.

Knowing that many of the unveiled bosses are titanic watchers (Temple of Winter, Life, and Storms), it could be speculated that other titanic watchers could be bosses: Tyr, Mimir/Mimiron[1] (Temple of Order, Invention). It has been hinted also from the Ulduar sneak peak on the wow official website that the old god of death lies within Ulduar whispering, which suggests that Yogg-Saron will likely be the final boss of this raid instance.

Gear

Items obtained in normal and heroic modes will share models, but vary in color. Set bonuses can be obtained when normal and heroic set items are worn together.[5]

PTR

The Ulduar raid dungeon will be available on the PTRs, however, the entire dungeon will not be able to be tested at one time.[4] The United States and European PTRs will test different encounters.[4]
