== Become a template engineer! ==

I'm looking for people to help me improve the wiki's templates, by developing standards for templates as guidelines, implementing the standards, creating documentation for each template, and helping others with templates. More information is available at [[Wowpedia:Template Engineers]]; feel free to apply if you're interested and have experience with creating and editing templates (but if you can generate some good documentation, that's useful too). Thanks. --{{User:Pcj/sig}} 13:54, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

== WikiaStats extension test ==
  +
  +
Good morning! I'm here to tell you about a new feature we're testing out on your wiki - Special:WikiaStats.
  +
  +
For every wiki at Wikia, we generate statistics that track the number of new editors, the number of articles, and various other information important to the life-cycle of a wiki. These stats are much more detailed than the in-built MediaWiki statistics page found at [[Special:Statistics]].
  +
  +
As Wikia has grown we have tried to improve our statistics package to our users more robust data. As part of our latest update, each wiki will receive a special page where any logged in user can view detailed statistical information about their wiki. In addition, a number of the statistics have had their methods of calculation updated to be more accurate. We hope this will aid users in deciding where to focus their efforts.
  +
  +
The new Wikia statistics pages can be found at '''Special:WikiaStats''' on this wiki. (Previously the information could be found on [http://wikistats.wikia.com/EN/index.html wikistats.wikia.com].) In addition, there will be a central WikiaStats page which allows you to look up any wiki's stats, though this is not yet live.
  +
  +
You can find out more about the new stats page at Help:WikiaStats on Wikia Help.
  +
  +
We are planning to release this to the rest of Wikia next week. In the meantime, we would love to get your feedback on the new stats page - where it's not clear, numbers that don't look accurate, or suggestions for improvement. You can leave feedback here, but it would help us keep everything organised if most of the feedback was left on this Central Wikia forum thread. Thanks! {{User:Kirkburn/Sig4}} 16:36, 11 September 2008 (UTC)
  +
  +
: To pre-empt two reports: the database changes size a lot around January - afaik, this is because the database was compressed at this time. The charts having white text on a white background is also known. {{User:Kirkburn/Sig4}} 16:53, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

== Should I put this up? ==
  +
  +
Hey everyone, I'm a newbie here; I joined up to put up some pages which I think would be interesting, but before I do (and while I read the tutorial files :P) I thought I'd ask here as to if other people'd find it interesting.
  +
It's all to do with what I'm calling Psuedo-sets, which are basically BoE greens without a suffix, like the Ancestral Woollies, or War Paint Gloves, and what have you. All it'd be would be a description of what a Psuedo-set is, and then a list of each Psuedo-set, with the stats and levels required, etc, and a picture of what it'd look like.
  +
  +
Worth putting up, or should I just leave it?
  +
  +
PS Also, apologies if I mess a few things up, like I said, I'm a newbie :P

:A bit more information might help. What are you calling a set? Random green stuff with no 'of the Whatever' enchant, or things that go together, similar to the set recolors (like [[Ravenwing Pauldrons]] are a recolor of [[Wildheart Spaulders]], and are part of the Wildheart lookalike set)? (later edit: got distracted) A list of lookalike stuff would be interesting, as would things with similar themes, at least to me. Something like the [[Fleshhide Shoulders]] and [[Lionfur Armor]] look similar, tan leather stitched together. ::: Thanks for pointing me to the item collections page; that's the sort of thing I was thinking of, though I wasn't including crafted items in my list, it can easily be expanded to such. I'll check through my lists to see if there are any that are not on that page, and I'll have an attempt at putting any up that I don't see there. And I'll have a look into putting up pictures for each race/gender combination in each set too. -- [[User:Atriusun|Atriusun]] ([[User talk:Atriusun|talk]]) 18:59, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

== 97 Things Every World of Warcraft Player Should Know ==
  +
  +
Good morning! I have a project to introduce to you all...
  +
  +
I am working on a book project with [http://oreilly.com/ O'Reilly Media] to collect tips for WoW players to compile into a book for publishing. The plan is for it to work thusly: we have a wiki set up where people can submit personal tips of around 250 words, which are then rated up and down, and the best tips are selected for the book.
  +
  +
The difference to WoWWiki is that these tips are each "owned" by the person who wrote them, and the writer gets his name and a short little biography in the book. I think it would complement WoWWiki well as we are not a "personal" guide wiki, and it gives the contributors more of a chance to shine. Whatever happens to the book, the wiki is planned to continue to exist.
  +
  +
The preliminary website is set up at http://commons.ora.com/wiki/index.php/97_Things_-_World_of_Warcraft - I would love for a few users to take a look, give us some feedback and perhaps start a few contributions of your own. I could go into more depth, but the linked page should explain most stuff.
  +
  +
Thanks for reading :) {{User:Kirkburn/Sig4}} 09:21, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
  +
  +
:Heya! After taking a look on your project with O'Reilly Media, I must admit I became very interested in contributing to it... I'm no way a major contributor on WOWWiki, and English is not my main language, but I shall do my best, actively polishing any contributions. My first idea is based on personal experience: an advice/tip about "Auction House Addiction". In short, this would initially enforce the economical stability, such as not expending too much on upgrades and using it as a tool for maximizing your income.
  +
:I would like any feedback or suggestions before starting this. May I give a try on this, and be bold? (not so bold as I'm actually asking for authorization hehe :P) [[User:RR Fang|RR Fang]] ([[User talk:RR Fang|talk]]) 23:26, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
  +
  +
::Sure, please do take a look and try writing something.
  +
::I've been updating the site today to help make it a bit clearer and have a few more guidelines. We've already got some pretty cool tips from some [[User:DuTempete|DuTempete]] and [[User:Fandyllic|Fandyllic]] up. The ball is rolling! {{User:Kirkburn/Sig4}} 00:38, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
  +
  +
::I've started an article about the book/wiki on [[97 Things Every World of Warcraft Player Should Know]]. I'll try and expand it over time with more info. {{User:Kirkburn/Sig4}} 14:10, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
  +
  +
Another update: we're still looking for more contributions and contributors! If you've got tips for a better WoW experience and want to get it published, this is your chance. We will give you help and advice with the tips, but they will remain yours (unlike on WoWWiki). {{User:Kirkburn/Sig4}} 22:28, 18 August 2008 (UTC)
  +
  +
: Bump :) Still looking for more people! {{User:Kirkburn/Sig4}} 12:26, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
  +
  +
===Status update===
  +
It looks likely the 97 things project will move to be hosted by Wikia as a sort of sister site to WoWWiki. It'll still be under the CC license, but it'll be much closer to home. Still looking for more contributors before the move though - if you have tips you wish to impart please, by all means, add them! If you know friends that always like to tell you how to play - maybe you could put them to good use on here :P Remember, if we get enough, you could be published in a book! {{User:Kirkburn/Sig4}} 13:06, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

== Preference tab bug ==
  +
  +
I'm hoping someone can help here... I was browsing Warhammer wikia and switched my skin from wowwiki to Monobook (since pages there were unreadable with the wowwiki skin.) Then, I came back here, and switched my preferences back to wowwiki. Now, I have a double row of tabs in the preferences at the top. But it only occurs on WoWWiki. Not on any other Wikia wikis. Anyone noticed this, and more importantly, any fix to this? --[[User:Slxception|Slxception]] ([[User talk:Slxception|talk]]) 19:11, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
  +
  +
: Yup, I see it on the wowwiki skin - [http://www.wowwiki.com/Special:Preferences?useskin=wowwiki example]. This skin isn't supported any more and is based on a ''very'' old version of the monobook skin. I'll look into it, but there are no promises for fixes. {{User:Kirkburn/Sig4}} 19:21, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

== A call for regulation ==
  +
  +
I have noticed that many WotLK pages have quotes or info ripped strait from the files. I do not know what is live of not, but look at things like [[Malygos (tactics)]]. I do not think they are. Just because a certain dark and deformed (formerly DNP) WotLK-themed rip-off of WoWWiki, or its Death Knightish cousin, or perhaps WOWinsider ([[Motorcycle]]) writes about datamined info does not mean we can use it as citation or justification. I think what was [[Wowpedia talk:DNP policy#Change_to_the_image_DNP_policy|decided]] for Quel'danas applies here.--{{User:Sandwichman2448/Sig}} 22:11, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
  +
  +
:While we're on the subject, a lot of pages are separated into info valid before Wrath, and things that will only be implemented once wrath arrives ([[Dalaran]] for example). Shouldn't these be consolidated?<small>—The preceding [[Wowpedia:Signature|unsigned]] comment was added by {{User|Cowlinator}}.</small>

Evening. I'm about to go to bed, but: We're about to get a reskin for the main page to accommodate an ad - bit of a short warning I know, but it's certainly on topic :) The width will become fixed width and the box ad will disappear, and it only affects the main page until the ad is finished. {{User:Kirkburn/Sig4}} 23:55, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

== Egregious use of icons ==
  +
  +
Regarding previous discussions of 'I like icons' vs 'I do not like icons' points of view, [[Tailoring patterns]] is among the worst uses of icons that I've seen on the site (the Components column). Neither the name of the component items nor the component item articles are linked (since icons link only to the icon container article). Since icons are reused for different items, the list is inherently ambiguous, and even if you are familiar with the items, some are ambiguous (spider silk, or thick spider silk?)
  +
  +
I would like to see a consensus standard for this sort of list. Given the various choices of representation of items, a quality colored tooltip link would be my top choice for all item links (ignoring for now the further question of loot template links vs item template links and whether there should be an icon included.)
  +
  +
I would also like to see a community consensus standard for quantity specifications in lists, so that there is a suggested 'right way' to do it. I've seen '6x[item]', '6x [item]', '6 x [item]', '[item]x6', '[item] x6', '[item] (6)', '[item] 0/6', and probably missed some others. I like 'number space x space item', it flows like the way we talk.

  +
  +
:: The 'times' character isn't on the keyboard, and <nowiki>&times;</nowiki> is a pain in the neck to type. I'd prefer just 'number item', like '6 [[netherweave]]'. Neither x or the times character is really appropriate anyway, since you're not multiplying it if you want to be really picky. The 6x is an artifact of chat, since you wouldn't ever ''say'' "That item needs six times netherweave"... If a seperation character is absolutely necessary, a - would be better. '6 - netherweave'.--[[User:Azaram|Azaram]] ([[User talk:Azaram|talk]]) 02:03, 21 September 2008 (UTC)
  +
  +
:::To be honest, I'd rather see it like how WoW addresses multiple items in game. They address it as [item]x6 for example. I agree that it's harder to use <nowiki>&times;</nowiki>, and that an x is better. --[[User:Slxception|Slxception]] ([[User talk:Slxception|talk]]) 05:08, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

== List of Ongoing Conflicts ==
  +
  +
Hello everyone! This might not be the right place to put this, but this is basically me asking for someone to either make a category or an article citing all the current Official Ongoing Conflicts taking place in World of Warcraft. This ''could'' be laid out similarly to the article for such found on regular wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ongoing_conflicts
  +
  +
The articles for the conflicts themselves already exist, obviously; I'm just seeking one place to click where it lists All of them. We have categories which do this for all varieties of things, but none specifically for conflicts. I could even do it myself, if someone can tell me how to get started. Thanks!
  +
  +
Edit: Obviously just about every single inch of all of World of Warcraft is a conflict zone, so perhaps I should specify that the category/article should just list the Major conflicts, such as the conflict between the Alliance & Horde, the Scourge, Burning Legion, etc. Just a list of all the articles that are about current conflicts. If someone wishes to be pedantic about it, they could even list details like conflicts against the centaur clans, the quillboar, etc.

We will be setting all of Wikia to "read-only" mode for about an hour starting at 09:00 UTC (2:00 AM PDT) on Tuesday morning so that we can move the master database to another server. During this time, wikis will still be accessible, but editing will be disabled. We are sorry for the inconvenience, but this maintenance is necessary to ensure the best possible performance and reliability.

Previously, the article for the [[Wrath of Cenarius (item)|item Wrath of Cenarius]] used the main [[Wrath of Cenarius|Wrath of Cenarius article]]. However, as I find the article for the [[Wrath of Cenarius (talent)|talent Wrath of Cenarius]] to be more appropriate for this page I attempted to move the talent article to the main article. Unfortunately, I'm not allowed to do so and I have no clue how to do it other than using brute force (edit and overwrite). If there's no disagreement with this step, could someone please assist me? --[[User:WoWWiki-Bfx|bfx]] ([[User talk:WoWWiki-Bfx|talk]]) 17:48, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

:::Technically Pen, that area is between Dun Morogh and Stormwind because Stormwind is a seperate zone from Elwynn Forest. I am not sure what they would put there if they ever did open that area up. In lore though, I think some of that closed area north of Stormwind City would be part of the Stormwind zone since they talk about mountains and creatures in the Stormwind zone north of Stormwind City. Also, I read some theories on here that Blackchar Cave located in the Searing Gorge might connect to that closed area. Blackchar Cave right now is blocked by rocks.&nbsp;[[User:Rolandius|Rolandius]]&nbsp;[[Image:Paladin.gif|25x25px]]&nbsp;<small>([[User talk:Rolandius|<span title="Rolandius's Talk">talk</span>]]&nbsp;-&nbsp;[[Special:Contributions/Rolandius|<span title="Rolandius's Contributions">contr</span>]])</small> 05:14, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

::Oh ya I know. What I meant was Blackchar Cave looks like it is leading into that closed off area according to some people. So if they ever unblocked the entrance and extended the cave I guess it would enter that closed area. == Table / Linkk / Portlet Weirdness when not logged into the Wiki ... ==
  +
  +
I was browsing about earlier when I noticed that a reagent table was malformed. Check out this behaviour:
  +
  +
[[Enchant_Weapon_-_Agility]]
  +
  +
When -not- logged into the wiki, the "Reagents" table is messed up - the quantities appear below the reagents themselves. The "Report a Problem" link (bottom, right side) is also malformed. The "Community" and "Related Communities" appear briefly, and are then pushed far down, below the ads. The "Reagents" table appears OK in IE - the portlets and "Report a Problem" link are still malformed, however.
  +
  +
Once logged into the Wiki, the table, link and portlets all appear to operate as expected. I can reproduce this under Firefox, IE8, IE7 (Emulated) and Google Chrome.

: This would need to be splitted by class/levelling talent choice, since not everyone needs every quest, but there are certain ones that yield good armor/weapons for a specific class, and by tradeskill, though it is of course already suggested to only skill near a trainer, and check him every 5 points - you can even see which recipes are coming up next - but of course there's also rare/vendor recipes, and specialisations to consider. I've noticed some people using [http://wotlkwiki.info Wotlkwiki.info] as references. This is not a primary source! Using Wotlkwiki.info as a reference is like using fan fiction as a reference unless the page is sourced (which I've noticed most of them are not). == Add glyph color to Common.css ==
  +

I'm not sure this is the right thing to do, but I though it might be nice to have a special [[glyph]] color (glyphs are ability/spell mods in {{wotlk-inline}}) for loot links, since we have one for [[enchant]] loot links (i.e. [[Enchant Weapon - Minor Beastslayer]]). [[Wowhead]] just shows white for now, but the glyph type (<span style="color:#71d5ff;">Minor Glyph</span> or <span style="color:#71d5ff;">Major Glyph</span>) is shown in a sort of <span style="color:#71d5ff;">light-blue</span>. This might be confused with the regular link color, though. We could use a different color like <span style="color:aqua;">aqua</span>, <span style="color:#8f58ff;">purple-blue</span>, or <span style="color:violet;">violet</span>.

The various [[Glyph]] pages for each of the classes are in a pretty bad state. Many of them have outdated or no info, aren't divided into major and minor, etc. I've been working on [[Warlock glyphs]] and [[Priest glyphs]] as a sort of template for how they could be: two tables (one for major glyphs and one for minor), sortable by glyph name and level required to use. ::I verify that this site looks like a legitimate website and it is not a Gold Selling site. Pretty sure an admin would have to help you out on that one. The reason, I think many other people would have their own strategies and/or other farming areas that are good for gold.

::It's difficult to delineate the difference between a [[Gold Farmer]] and a legitimate website that offers tips. It is about one month time till WotLK goes live. In fact, many pages are already being filled with lot of WotLK stuff.

Personally, I find this quite confusing. I hope this won't last too long. What is our policy with this?
  +
  +
Several pages are also going to need major changes soon, such as class talent, class builds pages, etc. Talent pages are fine as we only need to add new talents and modify old talents if necessary. However, what do we do with the class builds pages? Very likely most of the builds will become obsolete. Shall we keep the current content, or delete all the current content, or move the current content to other pages?

I've just turned on an update for how redirects work - you can read more about it on Forum:Improving our search engine ranking. It should help search engines understand our articles better, whilst also making double redirects less of a problem (still something to fix though, of course). If you see a large redirect icon popup when you get redirected, you need to refresh your cache - it should go away. {{User:Kirkburn/Sig4}} 23:04, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

I just wanted to bring to the attention of the admins that some Flash animated advertising on WoWWiki has started placing itself smack-dab in the middle of pages with no way to fix it but close the browser and return hoping a different ad shows up. I use IE7 on Vista with all patches and whatnots up to date. I'm attaching a screen shot of just such an example. == Article management boxes thought ==
  +
  +
Just a general though about article management boxes - that they should always be viewed as temporary additions to a page (unless warning the user about an important unchangeable fact, e.g. archive notice/removal from the game). There are a few other wikis I've seen (which shall remain nameless) that appear to treat them as permanent additions to a page - great for editors, terrible for many more non-editors, especially if several are stacked up.
  +
  +
Having said that, I think we treat the amboxes pretty well here, and they're fairly "quiet" design-wise, but I think it's always a good thing to bear in mind that they are never part of the content of a page. Is there a contingency plan? [[User:Demotree|Demotree]] ([[User talk:Demotree|talk]]) 17:12, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

:Yes, WoWWiki is operated by Wikia now (see [[Wowpedia:About]] for the history), not so much sold though, since the actual content on WoWWiki is released into public domain. Wikia operates all the advertising and stuff and manages updates, etc. for WoWWiki. They also implemented the Monaco skin and plan to move wowwiki to a subdomain of wikia.com, see [[Wowpedia:Domain name]] for more details. Contingency plan? Not so much, but it might be worth looking at if there were any realistic alternatives available (which I really doubt). In any case, we're already with Wikia and that's the way it'll probably stay. --{{User:Pcj/sig}} 17:57, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

I've been thinking about Achievements a lot, and it seems like they could use some love, compared to all the attention that quests and items have gotten. So I came up with some ideas. [[User:Coobra|Coobra]] got it started by taking some Achievement info and starting a template for simple achievements. I would also like to see mouseover tooltips as as well as the ability to automatically bring up the icon, like with {{t|questlong}}.
  +
  +
So anyways, here's some stuff. First off, if you haven't seen then {{t|achievement}} template yet, check it out and start using it.
  +
  +
{{Achievementbox
  +
|mode={{{mode|}}}
  +
|arg={{{arg|}}}
  +
|name=Got My Mind On My Money
  +
|image=INV_Misc_Coin_06
  +
|description=Loot 100 gold.
  +
|points=10
  +
|doc=
  +
}}
  +
  +
Also, here's an example of what I think "achievementlong" could look like:
  +
<pre>{{Achievementlong|icon=|points=|Got My Mind On My Money|doc= }}</pre>
  +
[[Image:INV_Misc_Coin_06.png|15px]] <span style="color:GoldenRod">10 [[Image:Money_achievement.png]] [Got My Mind On My Money]</span>
  +
  +
  +
... or more simply, for more everyday use:
  +
  +
<pre>{{Achievementlong|icon=|Got My Mind On My Money|doc= }}</pre>
  +
[[Image:INV_Misc_Coin_06.png|15px]] <span style="color:GoldenRod">[Got My Mind On My Money]</span>
  +
  +
  +
  +
Well at any rate, I'd love to just code these up myself, but I really don't understand how the tooltips are working for {{t|quest}}, so I'm stuck. But I'm hoping this will be enough to inspire someone. -[[User:Howbizr|Howbizr]] ([[User talk:Howbizr|talk]]) 12:32, 22 October 2008 (UTC)
  +

::: I feel the same way, but Coobra shot me down last time! I'll be curious to see what he thinks with an actual example. Wowwiki used to have a link to a "printable version" of a given page (to remove the left column), rather than the script printing it has currently. Does that still exist? It was nice to be able to save a page (without the extraneous stuff), rather than just printing it.

I don't know what's going on, but for the last hour or so, the checkboxes for "This is a minor edit" and "Watch this page" are intermittently becoming invisible. It's kind of like they have a z-index that's behind the background or something... or maybe it's some kind of Ajax loading problem. I have no idea - just shooting in the dark! All I can say is it never happened before today after several weeks of using this new browser. If anyone has safari, it might be worthwhile to see if it's having any problems. Become a template engineer!

I'm looking for people to help me improve the wiki's templates, by developing standards for templates as guidelines, implementing the standards, creating documentation for each template, and helping others with templates. More information is available at Wowpedia:Template Engineers; feel free to apply if you're interested and have experience with creating and editing templates (but if you can generate some good documentation, that's useful too). Thanks. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 13:54, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

MediaWiki 1.13 is live!

WoWWiki has just been upgraded to 1.13.1 - you can find out more on wikia:MediaWiki 1.13. If anyone sees any problems please report them here!

Known issues
Some local CSS tweaks are needed - Special:Specialpages and category bars.
AJAX RC isn't working - it needs an update.
Categories aren't reporting their true number of children. This is being worked on
LinkSuggest isn't working atm.

If you have more, we'll get to work on them asap. Kirkburn  talk  contr 12:04, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

According to Help:Parser function on meta.wikimedia.org, for core parser functions (PAGESINCATEGORY and PAGESIZE were added in 1.13): The syntax can be written with or without leading hash character (#).
However, I've found PAGESIZE needs to be used without a # and is case-sensitive: {{PAGESIZE:pagename}}, so just FYI.
Wowpedia talk:Village pump is getting pretty big: 69,221
--Gengar orange 22x22 Fandyllic (talk · contr) 1:29 PM PST 12 Sep 2008
{{PAGESINCATEGORY:Templates}} gives: 105
{{PAGESINCATEGORY:Article type templates}} gives: 134
{{PAGESINCATEGORY:Emoticons}} gives: 26
I don't know how this is supposed to work, but it doesn't seem to be. I also tried these parser function lines previewed on the category pages themsleves and the results were equally confusing. --Gengar orange 22x22 Fandyllic (talk · contr) 5:20 PM PST 12 Sep 2008

WikiaStats extension test

Good morning! I'm here to tell you about a new feature we're testing out on your wiki - Special:WikiaStats.

For every wiki at Wikia, we generate statistics that track the number of new editors, the number of articles, and various other information important to the life-cycle of a wiki. These stats are much more detailed than the in-built MediaWiki statistics page found at Special:Statistics.

The new Wikia statistics pages can be found at Special:WikiaStats on this wiki. (Previously the information could be found on wikistats.wikia.com.) In addition, there will be a central WikiaStats page which allows you to look up any wiki's stats, though this is not yet live.

You can find out more about the new stats page at Help:WikiaStats on Wikia Help.

Thanks! Kirkburn  talk  contr 16:36, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

To pre-empt two reports: the database changes size a lot around January - afaik, this is because the database was compressed at this time. The charts having white text on a white background is also known. Kirkburn  talk  contr 16:53, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

Should I put this up?

Hey everyone, I'm a newbie here; I joined up to put up some pages which I think would be interesting, but before I do (and while I read the tutorial files :P) I thought I'd ask here as to if other people'd find it interesting.

Worth putting up, or should I just leave it?

PS Also, apologies if I mess a few things up, like I said, I'm a newbie :P

-- Atriusun (talk) 09:43, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

A bit more information might help. What are you calling a set? Random green stuff with no 'of the Whatever' enchant, or things that go together, similar to the set recolors (like Inv shoulder 17 [Ravenwing Pauldrons] are a recolor of Inv shoulder 01 [Wildheart Spaulders], and are part of the Wildheart lookalike set)? (later edit: got distracted) A list of lookalike stuff would be interesting, as would things with similar themes, at least to me. Something like the Inv shoulder 28 [Fleshhide Shoulders] and Inv chest fur [Lionfur Armor] look similar, tan leather stitched together. At least to me... --Azaram (talk) 00:49, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
Take a look at Category:World of Warcraft item collections. I think we already have some of these pseudo-sets identified, so you could add what you think is missing. I will make pseudo-set a redirect to Category:World of Warcraft item collections to help people find this list in the future. --Gengar orange 22x22 Fandyllic (talk · contr) 1:17 PM PST 15 Sep 2008
Thanks for pointing me to the item collections page; that's the sort of thing I was thinking of, though I wasn't including crafted items in my list, it can easily be expanded to such. I'll check through my lists to see if there are any that are not on that page, and I'll have an attempt at putting any up that I don't see there. And I'll have a look into putting up pictures for each race/gender combination in each set too. -- Atriusun (talk) 18:59, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

97 Things Every World of Warcraft Player Should Know

Good morning! I have a project to introduce to you all...

I am working on a book project with O'Reilly Media to collect tips for WoW players to compile into a book for publishing. The plan is for it to work thusly: we have a wiki set up where people can submit personal tips of around 250 words, which are then rated up and down, and the best tips are selected for the book.

The preliminary website is set up at http://commons.ora.com/wiki/index.php/97_Things_-_World_of_Warcraft - I would love for a few users to take a look, give us some feedback and perhaps start a few contributions of your own. I could go into more depth, but the linked page should explain most stuff.

Thanks for reading :) Kirkburn  talk  contr 09:21, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

Heya!
I would like any feedback or suggestions before starting this. May I give a try on this, and be bold? (not so bold as I'm actually asking for authorization hehe :P) RR Fang (talk) 23:26, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
Sure, please do take a look and try writing something.
I've been updating the site today to help make it a bit clearer and have a few more guidelines. We've already got some pretty cool tips from some DuTempete and Fandyllic up. The ball is rolling! Kirkburn  talk  contr 00:38, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
I've started an article about the book/wiki on 97 Things Every World of Warcraft Player Should Know. I'll try and expand it over time with more info. Kirkburn  talk  contr 14:10, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

Another update: we're still looking for more contributions and contributors! If you've got tips for a better WoW experience and want to get it published, this is your chance. We will give you help and advice with the tips, but they will remain yours (unlike on WoWWiki). Kirkburn  talk  contr 22:28, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

Bump :) Still looking for more people! Kirkburn  talk  contr 12:26, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Status update

It looks likely the 97 things project will move to be hosted by Wikia as a sort of sister site to WoWWiki. It'll still be under the CC license, but it'll be much closer to home. Still looking for more contributors before the move though - if you have tips you wish to impart please, by all means, add them! If you know friends that always like to tell you how to play - maybe you could put them to good use on here :P Remember, if we get enough, you could be published in a book! Preference tab bug

--Slxception (talk) 19:11, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

Yup, I see it on the wowwiki skin - example. This skin isn't supported any more and is based on a very old version of the monobook skin. I'll look into it, but there are no promises for fixes. Kirkburn  talk  contr 19:21, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

A call for regulation

I have noticed that many WotLK pages have quotes or info ripped strait from the files. I do not know what is live of not, but look at things like Malygos (tactics). I do not think they are. Just because a certain dark and deformed (formerly DNP) WotLK-themed rip-off of WoWWiki, or its Death Knightish cousin, or perhaps WOWinsider (Motorcycle) writes about datamined info does not mean we can use it as citation or justification. I think what was decided for Quel'danas applies here.--SWM2448 22:11, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

While we're on the subject, a lot of pages are separated into info valid before Wrath, and things that will only be implemented once wrath arrives (Dalaran for example). Shouldn't these be consolidated?—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Cowlinator (talk · contr).
I do not think so. They can be very different things. The history of whatever topic needs to be filed somehow.--SWM2448 01:46, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

Main page ad

Evening. I'm about to go to bed, but: We're about to get a reskin for the main page to accommodate an ad - bit of a short warning I know, but it's certainly on topic :) The width will become fixed width and the box ad will disappear, and it only affects the main page until the ad is finished. Kirkburn  talk  contr 23:55, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

It doesn't happen to be an advertisement pertaining to Wrath of the Lich King, by chance? --Sky (t · c · w) 01:49, 17 September 2008 (UTC)

Egregious use of icons

Regarding previous discussions of 'I like icons' vs 'I do not like icons' points of view, Tailoring patterns is among the worst uses of icons that I've seen on the site (the Components column). Neither the name of the component items nor the component item articles are linked (since icons link only to the icon container article). Since icons are reused for different items, the list is inherently ambiguous, and even if you are familiar with the items, some are ambiguous (spider silk, or thick spider silk?)

I would like to see a consensus standard for this sort of list. Given the various choices of representation of items, a quality colored tooltip link would be my top choice for all item links (ignoring for now the further question of loot template links vs item template links and whether there should be an icon included.)

Comments? Madkaugh (talk) 19:44, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, that page is terrible, the ingredients lists are completely unusable. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 19:50, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
As for a standard for quantity specifications, can we please use the times (×) character instead of the alphabetic letter x? --Wigs (talk) 08:11, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
The 'times' character isn't on the keyboard, and × is a pain in the neck to type. I'd prefer just 'number item', like '6 netherweave'. Neither x or the times character is really appropriate anyway, since you're not multiplying it if you want to be really picky. The 6x is an artifact of chat, since you wouldn't ever say "That item needs six times netherweave"... If a seperation character is absolutely necessary, a - would be better. '6 - netherweave'.--Azaram (talk) 02:03, 21 September 2008 (UTC)
To be honest, I'd rather see it like how WoW addresses multiple items in game. They address it as [item]x6 for example. I agree that it's harder to use ×, and that an x is better. --Slxception (talk) 05:08, 21 September 2008 (UTC)
I'm going to say it has a worse problem... Its long and bloated, and could use a split. Each section becoming its own spinout article.Baggins (talk) 08:13, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

I already is split, sort of; someone made the sections transcludable articles a while back. Having a page that lists all of the recipes for a profession is handy, I use them frequently. I think the icon format makes the page feel longer and more bloated. Madkaugh (talk) 19:24, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
That particular page takes too long to load in its current view, and I'm on cable. If all the icons could be recycled better, it may not take as long. The World of Warcraft tailoring crafted items category is much more convenient. --Slxception (talk) 05:08, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

List of Ongoing Conflicts

Hello everyone! This might not be the right place to put this, but this is basically me asking for someone to either make a category or an article citing all the current Official Ongoing Conflicts taking place in World of Warcraft. This could be laid out similarly to the article for such found on regular wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ongoing_conflicts

The articles for the conflicts themselves already exist, obviously; I'm just seeking one place to click where it lists All of them. We have categories which do this for all varieties of things, but none specifically for conflicts. I could even do it myself, if someone can tell me how to get started. Thanks!

-- Locknbar (talk) 21:45, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

Maybe Aldor vs. Scryer? --Slxception (talk) 08:43, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
I think people understand the request. The best way to get people working on it is to start an article and stub it. I will start an article at List of ongoing conflicts and you can fill in parts that you see fit... Hopefully others will join you. --Gengar orange 22x22 Fandyllic (talk · contr) 4:50 PM PST 23 Sep 2008
Okay I added many, many sections for info about ongoing WoW conflicts. That should be a good start. --Gengar orange 22x22 Fandyllic (talk · contr) 5:58 PM PST 24 Sep 2008

I got this message today at the top of my talk page...

Hi everyone,

We will be setting all of Wikia to "read-only" mode for about an hour starting at 09:00 UTC (2:00 AM PDT) on Tuesday morning so that we can move the master database to another server. During this time, wikis will still be accessible, but editing will be disabled. We are sorry for the inconvenience, but this maintenance is necessary to ensure the best possible performance and reliability.

This message is only being sent to sysops, so please pass this information along to other members of your communities as needed.

Previously, the article for the item Wrath of Cenarius used the main Wrath of Cenarius article. However, as I find the article for the talent Wrath of Cenarius to be more appropriate for this page I attempted to move the talent article to the main article. Area between Dun Morugh and Elwyn Forest

Has there been any talk about the area between Dun Morough and Elwyn Forest? I have always thought they should put something there.

-- Pen lord2000 (talk) 01:25, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

It's a closed zone. Maybe they'll implement it at some point, but I wouldn't hold my breath. --k_d3 01:31, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
I don't know... they added that HUGE HUGE gate door in the Stormwind Harbor. It's positioned in a way that it would lead to a new location. Technically Pen, that area is between Dun Morogh and Stormwind because Stormwind is a seperate zone from Elwynn Forest. Blackchar Cave right now is blocked by rocks. Rolandius Paladin (talk - contr) 05:14, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
At one point you could get into Blackchar cave through certain ingame spell abilities. Its actually just another one of those generic caves found in other parts of the world. As I recall similar to the one in Stranglethorn, where you fight Kurzen.Baggins (talk) 06:13, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
Oh ya I know. What I meant was Blackchar Cave looks like it is leading into that closed off area according to some people. So if they ever unblocked the entrance and extended the cave I guess it would enter that closed area. I flew over it a lot of times and it looks like it could be made to open into that closed area in the future or on the other hand it could be made to open near the graveyard, the one west of the Altar of Storms, in the Burning Steppes. Rolandius Paladin (talk - contr) 06:32, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

Table / Linkk / Portlet Weirdness when not logged into the Wiki ...

I was browsing about earlier when I noticed that a reagent table was malformed. Check out this behaviour:

Enchant_Weapon_-_Agility

When -not- logged into the wiki, the "Reagents" table is messed up - the quantities appear below the reagents themselves. The "Report a Problem" link (bottom, right side) is also malformed. The "Community" and "Related Communities" appear briefly, and are then pushed far down, below the ads. The "Reagents" table appears OK in IE - the portlets and "Report a Problem" link are still malformed, however.

Once logged into the Wiki, the table, link and portlets all appear to operate as expected. I can reproduce this under Firefox, IE8, IE7 (Emulated) and Google Chrome.

-- Celephais (talk) 04:39, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

It looks like the template used is {{EnchantmentReagents}} and it isn't technically a table, but some arcane arrangement of <div>s, some of which are floating. There are also alot of #if's used. I would tell Kirkburn to forward the issue on to some Wikia's technical folks to look at. It could be something to do with the permissions of logged in vs. anonymous users and that is beyond the power of admins to fix, usually. --Gengar orange 22x22 Fandyllic (talk · contr) 10:48 AM PST 29 Sep 2008

levelling todo list

Firstly - wiki newb here so I'm open to correction on any front.

I have searched but can't seem to find the type of resource I am looking for so I thought I might write one.

A levelling todo list: At any given level check the todo list for reminders of changes you need to make.

e.g. new food levels available, ammo upgrades, instances now available, significant class quests

Does anyone know if something like this already exists?

Any thoughts on whether this is needed, viable, stupid?

-- matmanj (talk) 13:59, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

This would need to be splitted by class/levelling talent choice, since not everyone needs every quest, but there are certain ones that yield good armor/weapons for a specific class, and by tradeskill, though it is of course already suggested to only skill near a trainer, and check him every 5 points - you can even see which recipes are coming up next - but of course there's also rare/vendor recipes, and specialisations to consider. It does sound reasonable, but also like a lot of work. Have fun! Smiley ~ User:Nathanyelŋɑϑ 16:28, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

WotLK stub on milling article

I was curious. Since Ability miling [Milling] will theoretically be in place prior to the WotLK release, should this be marked as a PTR entry and not a WotLK one? (Inscription too?) -- Lywellyn (talk / cont) 21:23, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

Milling is a part of Inscription and thus won't be available to those who doesn't have the expansion. So no. g0urra[T҂C] 21:31, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
Um yes. Yes it will. The 3.0.2 patch will release Inscription to everyone (expansion or not), up to a skill level of 375. You have to get the expansion to level it beyond 375 to 450. --Lywellyn (talk / cont) 21:47, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
So I read in the Inscription article, people with Bc icon will be getting Inscription to level up to 375, but there are no citations or refs. Where did thi sinfo come from? A bluepost? --Gengar orange 22x22 Fandyllic (talk · contr) 5:32 PM PST 30 Sep 2008

I _thought_ I had read it somewhere in a blue post, but just couldn't remember where. I was just going by the PTR patch notes. However, I notice that a lot of things that will be introduced in that pre-patch have that boilerplate (is that the correct term?) stating that its Wrath content. And since I'm not entirely aware of _everything_ that's coming in... I suppose it's best left as is? --Lywellyn (talk / cont) 07:09, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
Well, I have already maxed out Inscription to 375 with BC expansion prior to Wrath coming out, so I'm pretty sure this issue is resolved. User:Nuurdien/Sig 15:19, 28 October 2008

Wotlkwiki.info is not a primary source!

I've noticed some people using Wotlkwiki.info as references. This is not a primary source! Using Wotlkwiki.info as a reference is like using fan fiction as a reference unless the page is sourced (which I've noticed most of them are not). Even if the Wotlkwiki.info page is sourced, you should use the sources on the page and not the page itself. --Gengar orange 22x22 Fandyllic (talk · contr) 5:56 PM PST 30 Sep 2008

Okay, let me clarify. Using images from the site that are screenshots is probably okay, but you should probably just upload them here and link them that way. Also, I couldn't find any licensing or usage info for this site, so copying stuff from it is risky.
You should not use <ref> links to Wotlkwiki.info to stuff like strategy and such, since it is not a primary source, but putting links in the "External links" section is okay.
Some time soon I will probably go around nuking <ref>http://wotlkwiki.info/...</ref> links, so you should move them to External links if you want them saved. --Gengar orange 22x22 Fandyllic (talk · contr) 6:15 PM PST 30 Sep 2008

Add glyph color to Common.css

I'm not sure this is the right thing to do, but I though it might be nice to have a special glyph color (glyphs are ability/spell mods in Wrath-Logo-Small) for loot links, since we have one for enchant loot links (i.e. Enchant Weapon - Minor Beastslayer). Wowhead just shows white for now, but the glyph type (Minor Glyph or Major Glyph) is shown in a sort of light-blue. This might be confused with the regular link color, though. We could use a different color like aqua, purple-blue, or violet.

Am I the only one who wants this? --Gengar orange 22x22 Fandyllic (talk · contr) 5:57 PM PST 1 Oct 2008

Aqua would probably be best. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 01:06, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

Glyph pages

The various Glyph pages for each of the classes are in a pretty bad state. Many of them have outdated or no info, aren't divided into major and minor, etc. I've been working on Warlock glyphs and Priest glyphs as a sort of template for how they could be: two tables (one for major glyphs and one for minor), sortable by glyph name and level required to use. Does this look good? And if so, could someone help me whip the rest of the glyph pages into shape?

A quick response to say - yes, this is being looked at. We've been discussing amongst the admins this week. However, with BlizzCon coming up and other major events, we (and I) do not have the bandwidth to deal with a full-blown discussion at the moment, and I would please ask that users do not worry about it at the moment. Any change would not occur until after BlizzCon has been and gone, and it would have zero effect on the content, presentation or running of the wiki. If you have pressing questions, you can email me, but there will be a discussion in the future. Kirkburn  talk  contr 20:23, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

I verify that this site looks like a legitimate website and it is not a Gold Selling site. Pretty sure an admin would have to help you out on that one. However, I think it would be more appropriate to create a new page and call it something to the effect of Gold Farming Strategies and link it on the Farming page. The reason, I think many other people would have their own strategies and/or other farming areas that are good for gold.
It's difficult to delineate the difference between a Gold Farmer and a legitimate website that offers tips. I personally would be reluctant to go to another site for information (most try to sell you stuff or get you to sign up for something before you can read their content). I like to have everything on Wowwiki.Selling gold, as well as buying gold, is against the WoW EULA and Wowwiki undoubtedly will not support it. Hence the filters.

Preparing for WotLK?

It is about one month time till WotLK goes live. In fact, many pages are already being filled with lot of WotLK stuff.

Personally, I find this quite confusing. I hope this won't last too long. What is our policy with this?

Several pages are also going to need major changes soon, such as class talent, class builds pages, etc. Talent pages are fine as we only need to add new talents and modify old talents if necessary. However, what do we do with the class builds pages? Very likely most of the builds will become obsolete. Shall we keep the current content, or delete all the current content, or move the current content to other pages? -- WakemanCK (talk) 13:21, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

Redirect changes

I've just turned on an update for how redirects work - you can read more about it on Forum:Improving our search engine ranking. It should help search engines understand our articles better, whilst also making double redirects less of a problem (still something to fix though, of course). Human Paladin or Draenei Paladin?

Hey, I'm new here. And I'll be getting WoW soon, but I can't decide which type of Paladin to get - a human or a draenei? Can you guys help me out? :P

-WeeChrissy360 (My signature doesn't work :D)

Well that actually depends on what you are planning to do with that character.
If you care most about the looks, check out some pictures or play around with the character creation screen when you get WoW (or at a friend's)
If you want to roleplay (RP), I suggest reading the Human and Draenei pages for more info - also check the "For the playable ..." links at the top of these pages for more specific information about the playable factions of those races, and there are also good introductory articles over at WoW Insider: So you want to be a human and So you want to be a Draenei.
Oh, and other Paladin races would be Dwarf (Alliance, too) and Blood Elf (Horde) ~ User:Nathanyelŋɑϑ 08:55, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

Article management boxes thought

Just a general though about article management boxes - that they should always be viewed as temporary additions to a page (unless warning the user about an important unchangeable fact, e.g. archive notice/removal from the game). There are a few other wikis I've seen (which shall remain nameless) that appear to treat them as permanent additions to a page - great for editors, terrible for many more non-editors, especially if several are stacked up.

Having said that, I think we treat the amboxes pretty well here, and they're fairly "quiet" design-wise, but I think it's always a good thing to bear in mind that they are never part of the content of a page. Edit: this isn't related to anything I've noticed on the wiki, I'm just being random. Kirkburn  talk  contr 23:01, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

Wikia hosting and layoffs, contingency plan?

Was Wowwiki sold to Wikia? I saw they own the domain name now in a whois lookup. I ask as I see Wikia is laying off staff and the thought of possibly having this incredibly valuable resource that is Wowwiki lost makes me sick at the thought:

http://news.cnet.com/8301-17939_109-10070402-2.html

Is there a contingency plan? Demotree (talk) 17:12, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

Yes, WoWWiki is operated by Wikia now (see Wowpedia:About for the history), not so much sold though, since the actual content on WoWWiki is released into public domain. Wikia operates all the advertising and stuff and manages updates, etc. for WoWWiki. They also implemented the Monaco skin and plan to move wowwiki to a subdomain of wikia.com, see Wowpedia:Domain name for more details. Contingency plan? Not so much, but it might be worth looking at if there were any realistic alternatives available (which I really doubt). In any case, we're already with Wikia and that's the way it'll probably stay. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 17:57, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

I've been thinking about Achievements a lot, and it seems like they could use some love, compared to all the attention that quests and items have gotten. So I came up with some ideas. Coobra got it started by taking some Achievement info and starting a template for simple achievements. I would also like to see mouseover tooltips as as well as the ability to automatically bring up the icon, like with {{questlong}}.

So anyways, here's some stuff. First off, if you haven't seen then {{achievement}} template yet, check it out and start using it.

Inv misc coin 06 Neutral Got My Mind On My Money 10 Achievement points
Loot 100 gold.

Also, here's an example of what I think "achievementlong" could look like:

{{Achievementlong|icon=|points=|Got My Mind On My Money|doc= }}

INV Misc Coin 06 10 Money achievement [Got My Mind On My Money]

... or more simply, for more everyday use:

{{Achievementlong|icon=|Got My Mind On My Money|doc= }}

INV Misc Coin 06 [Got My Mind On My Money]

Well at any rate, I'd love to just code these up myself, but I really don't understand how the tooltips are working for {{quest}}, so I'm stuck. But I'm hoping this will be enough to inspire someone. -Howbizr (talk) 12:32, 22 October 2008 (UTC)

Oh, I see, you mean for mouseover tooltips. Well, then this should be easy enough to do, except rewards aren't implemented in the {{achievement}} listing. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 12:37, 22 October 2008 (UTC)

I feel the same way, but Coobra shot me down last time! I'll be curious to see what he thinks with an actual example. Ose, I would really like to change the achievement template style wise - do you have something more specific in mind? Are you saying to just make it look more like the tooltip than the table layout? Or do you mean just make the "darktable" into a "goldenRod" table Smiley --Howbizr (talk) 19:36, 22 October 2008
Looks like Howbizr and Pcj added rewards support to {{achievement}}. I'm not sure how a tooltip would could go from the darktable version at Achievement worldevent valentine [Fool For Love] to the 2-column example above, though. Perhaps we could make an infobox template for achievements that looked more like the Fool For Love example tooltip? --Gengar orange 22x22 Fandyllic (talk · contr) 5:29 PM PST 23 Oct 2008
Inv misc toy 04

For the Children is related to the seasonal world event Children's Week. If you complete this achievement you will be rewarded with the title Matron or Patron depending on your character's gender. This achievement is also a criterion of the meta-achievement What A Long, Strange Trip It's Been.

Notes

If your character's gender changes while showing the <Matron> or <Patron> title, your title will also change. This frequently happens to characters traveling around Icecrown or using morphs such as an Inv drink 01 [Iron Boot Flask].

The gender (and title) change also specifically happens to male characters entering Brunnhildar Village[48.2, 69.2]VZ-Storm PeaksBlip, where the Hyldnir are all female, and to female characters entering Netherwing Ledge[70, 85]VZ-Shadowmoon ValleyBlip where the Dragonmaw fel orcs are all male. On leaving these areas, your character's gender (and therefore, <Matron> or <Patron> title) will both revert to normal.

In case anyone cares... it seems to have stopped happening. I'm fairly certain is was in fact a Chrome thing after I saw them "come back" on mouseover from time to time. We're up to version 0.3.154.9 now. -Howbizr (talk) 13:43, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

Firefox crash

Watching the herbalism / herbs pages causes crazy slowdown on firefox and will generally result in the browser locking up or straight out crashing... I'm unable to browse the herbs as a result, someone may want to look into the objects on those pages. Zurgat (talk) 20:53, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

What version of FireFox are you using? I'm using 3.0.3 and watching Herbalism and Herb works fine. --Gengar orange 22x22 Fandyllic (talk · contr) 3:10 PM PST 23 Oct 2008
Try disabling any extensions you may have. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 22:49, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

The only reason I can imagine Herb having a problem is from all the loot links, but afaik that shouldn't have any active impact. Kirkburn  talk  contr 00:41, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

Using the latest version of the 2.x range. The only plugins i'm using are noscript and foxmarks. Inv misc herb 17 [Purple Lotus] is a guaranteed crash. Zurgat (talk) 08:54, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
Are you blocking any JS from WoWWiki? --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 20:31, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
I was getting random problems with FireFox crashing at home, but not at work. Both FireFox setups are similar, not exact duplicate extensions. (Home has much less horsepower.) It occurred to me that a big difference is that Java gets updated at work on a more regular basis. I have updated Java, too recently to report that this successfully improved performance. Still, you may want to look at your Java version. Madkaugh (talk) 00:21, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
