Biography

Mr Horatio Caine is a level 70 character in the guild Pure of the US Server Antonidas, played by actor Bobarker. He is known for excessive one-liners and putting on his sunglasses, mid-sentence, before the invites of most of the raids go out.

Horatio portrays Bob in a very idiosyncratic manner, sometimes leading to parodies of the character. Caine is often seen putting on a pair of sunglasses at night, which online fans have started referring to as "The Sunglasses of Pwn" or "Pwn Shades". He often stands sideways to the person to whom he is speaking and has a tendency to cock his head to one side (after removing his sunglasses) so that he can address bad players with a steady but not intimidating eye-contact. He tends to do this more with surviving victims of pvp or his colleagues. Worth a notable mention (though not a quirk of his character) is that he has a habit of singing the Final Countdown after he's done talking on Ventrilo, and often when he thinks someone is going to be kicked from the guild. Another characteristic of Caine's is when—after finding the body of a dead player, usually just before the main theme music (the Final Countdown) plays—he will sternly look off into the distance, put on his sunglasses, and then say a one-liner that pertains to the mistake of the bad player (he will often make some kind of a pun on the situation, but not always).

In the Pure continuum, Horatio is (and has been throughout the guild's development) a major contributor to the guild, a semi-decent shaman and former warrior (though his specialty is restoration). He is very protective of his team, who affectionately call him "H." He is very concerned about the reputation of his guild, and takes great care to keep them clean, perhaps because of his experience with his tarnished younger brother, Quentin.

Unlike his counterpart in Las Vegas, Bladereaper (CSI: Crime Scene Investigation), he is a commissioned resto shaman, and thus carries a mace and shield. A superb mace expert, Caine doesn't hesitate to use deadly force when needed. He is also an ardent advocate of the death penalty for particularly heinous crimes via lightning bolt, and doesn't think twice about threatening scrubs with it in such cases. In the first two years, Caine carried a Totem of Air while on the job. Since the beginning of season three, he has been shown carrying a Tranquil Air Totem. He is very insistent on Totem maintenance, especially since team member Sarios and Vaevictus were killed in a shootout after their totems misfired because of lax maintenance. In fact, one of the reasons for Horatio's nearly on-the-spot selection of Officer Erasmus as Sarios' and Vaevictus' replacement is Erasmus's compulsive care of his totem due to OCD.

Backstory

Horatio's original backstory, revealed over the course of his guild career, revolves primarily around his relationship with his late brother Quentin Caine, a night elf Huntard, and with Quentin's supposed widow, Detective Kaellyn. His brother was an undercover brother, and there are several suspicions surrounding his death. Horatio has, several times, found himself cleaning up Quentin's messes. He discovers that his brother had an out-of-wedlock daughter with a drug addict named Gardy, and he attempts to conceal this information from Kaellyn, even to the point of making her think the girl was in fact his own child. When the girl, Eldiline, falls ill and requires a transplant, Horatio is forced to reveal her true relationship with Quentin to Kaellyn. It was revealed later that Horatio Sr.'s apparent death had actually been staged to enable him to go deep undercover to gather information for a government investigation. Quentin and Horatio are briefly reunited when a gnome is kidnapped. The brothers successfully rescue the gnome and fake Horatio Sr.'s death again before packing the whole family off to Darnaskus. Unfortunately, Horatio Sr. is unable to keep out of trouble even there, culminating in his murder; he dies in Horatio's arms.
