A high population US server. Upon the release of WoW this server was chosen as the unofficial Australian PVP server by the Australian WoW community (also acknowledged by Blizzard in the Australian trial WoW DVD booklet, along with Spinebreaker and Proudmoore). Since then Oceanic realms have been released and many Australians have rerolled, slightly alleviating the long queues suffered by this realm. However, because of this history, Blackrock is still a harsh and unfriendly server when it comes to transfers or new players.
The unofficial motto of the server is "Blackrock is full, GTFO."
The default accepted pug loot rules is to roll Need on all BoEs regardless of quality.
This realm is infamous for the Argent Dawngnome raids. These events would occur when the server has unbearable lag or goes down. Many, sometimes hundreds, of Blackrock players create level 1 gnomes on the Argent Dawn role playing realm and raid Ironforge, spamming text in chat channels and annoying players. The majority of players joined a guild named <Blackrock Exiles>. This behavior greatly annoyed the Argent Dawn population and was discouraged by Blizzard. Contrary to popular belief this is not a valid roleplaying event. The Blackrock denziens sole purpose is to disrupt Argent Dawn, usually by creating characters with vulgar names and spamming the server's Alliance trade channels with sophmoric humor or atlasloot links of Thunderfury. Despite numerious complaints and petitions from the Argent Dawn community, the guild <Exiles of Blackrock> continues to exsist on the server and Blizzard has taken little (if any) action against the guilty.
Blackrock is primarily a Pacific Standard Time server - however, the largest chunk of the population is of an Oceanic player base so Blackrock's peak population times usually run at AEST (NSW/Sydney Time) or UTC/GMT +10 hours.
Server Transfers
There has been 4 free server transfers as initiated by Blizzard from Blackrock to other lower populated servers.
Redefined has disbanded as of late 2006. Rezguise has transferred to Death and Taxes on Korgath in early 2006, and has since retired. Colony Raiders disbanded in mid-June 2006 and Nice joined Eminence. Ex and Nice have both retired from playing World of Warcraft around May 2007.
