During the return of the Silithid and preceding the reopening of the Gates of Ahn'Qiraj, the Old God, C'thun, spread a volatile toxin into the drinking water of Alliance and Horde cities. This toxin was also spread to members of the mortal races via stings and catalysts carried by the Silithid. The toxin was a neural agent capable of weakening the minds of its victims and allowing the Old God to influence them. Those affected were assaulted by telepathic "whispers" from C'thun, who threatened them with pain or promised them their deepest desires.
Azhandris, having been cut and infected by a Silithid drone, fought but ultimately succumbed to the nagging whispers of C'thun, who promised her her darkest desire - to become a beautiful queen, like Queen Azshara! With the infection spreading, and her will breaking, Azhandris Summerwind renamed herself Queen Sandslayer and attempted to gather "those loyal to the Old Gods." Unfortunately, those whom she gathered as followers where also promised great power and a struggle erupted into a small civil war in the ruined village of Karazhan – a place Azhandris intented to establish her kingdom and the Sandslayer Hive.
In the aftermath of the struggle, heroes of the Horde and the Alliance arrived and removed the dying and wounded to Stormwind, where they were treated with medicines to help cure and free the victims from the infection. With the aid of the druids of Moonglade, the clerics of the Light and the priestesses of Elune, the infection and the telepathic bond to the Old God was destroyed. Several surviving victims suffered from amnesia or fell into a coma, while others, like Azhandris, remember their actions vividly and attempted to erase all memory of the ordeal.
Subsequently, Azhandris makes no mention to this dark potion of her life, and swore to extract vengeance upon C'thun for her disgraceful actions.
To this day, Azhandris has failed to follow through with her oath of vengeance, and the Old God remains untouched by her wrath. Though many claim to have fell the monsterous eye-beast, from time to time Azhandris can hear his whispers echoing in the back of her mind – and knows C'thun survived...
