Arcaena Sunvolant is the Sun Magistrix Regal of Quel'Thalas, appointed by Lor'themar Theron, it's Regent Lord, after the events on the Isle of Quel'Danas, actually when the Kirin Tor moved their rebuilt city, Dalaran, to Northrend. She was invested with this highest diplomatic rank at the time when Archmage Aethas Sunreaver, a high ranking leader of the Kirin Tor requested Lor'Themar, Halduron Brightwing, and Grand Magister Rommath to allow the blood elfmages to join the ranks of the Kirin tor. The leaders of Quel'Thalas gave no answer to the Aethas' letters. Arcaena's appoitment as the Thalassian Envoy Extraordinary to Dalaran was to take measurements and to see how Blood elves are treated in the fabled floating city of Dalaran. She was a mage under training of the Kirin Tor before the Third War and also she was a distant realtive of Aethas Sunreaver. Reasons fair enough to incite plain and friendly communication, yet lacking any certain bias as well. During her first mission Arcaena was shocked to learn that an undeniable amount of their Sin'dorei brethren and sisters were executed in the dungeons of Dalaran, where the Kirin Tor did nothing to intervene. This knowledge was used and referenced during the negotioation when Archmage Aethas personally trawelled to see the leaders of Quel'Talass in Silvermoon City. Aethas informed them of Malygos the Spellweaver's intention to wipe out all mortal magic users, and that as such, The Kirin Tor had become the crazed Aspect's enemies. He asked for his peoples' aid in the matter. This proposition of the Archmage was officially rejected.
A little later than this, Arcaena arranged a meeting with Aurora Skycaller for Lor'themar and Ranger Lord Hawkspear at Quel'Lithien Lodge for people under his commend would support Quel'Talas. The negotiation ended without success, as Hawkspear refused the assistance of the sin'dorei, choosing to retain his quel'dorei ethics. Right after they retured from this misson to the Sunfury Spire Archmage Aethas, being still there, revealed that several high elven members of the Kirin Tor under Vereesa Windrunner share a similar attitude.
Arcaena later arranged the diplomatic travel of Sylvanas Windrunner to Sunfury Spire with Silvermoon City's Horde Emissary of Undercity, Kristine Denny, and the Thalassian Ambassador to Undercity, Ambassador Sunsorrow. The negociation was to enlist the Blood elf aid against the Lich King, reasoning that as members of the Horde they are obligated to commit support. Despite Lor'themar's apprehension to commit troops so soon after the battle on Quel'Danas, Sylvanas were able to twist his arm enough to warrant co-operation, citing that their refusal to battle the Lich King would likely lead to further death in Quel'Thalas -- and the loss of Horde support. With the sin'dorei's presence in Northrend confirmed either way, Lor'themar finally agreed to support Arcmage Aethas Sunreavers' endeavor as well.
As a result Arcaena's task was to cooperate with Aethas to achieve a proper representation for the people of Quel'Thalas and the sin'dorei at large to the Kirin'Tor. Her deeds cemented also the acceptance of the Horde in to Dalaran, as the city was declared as a sanctuary amid war. Her help was vital in the casting of the staff and members of the Sunreavers which faction acts as the Horde Embassy in Dalaran. Consequenty Vereesa Windrunner and the members of her Silver Covenant are less than thakful for her efforts, yet they don't dare to oppose her directly. In Dalaran she represents the government of Quel'Thalas, the ancestral homeland of both quel'dorei and sin'dorei, and as being the Ambassador at Large, diplomatic immunity surrounds her. She is higly honoured by the Sunreavers, hovever she plays no part in their generally militant actions, nor is she part of the faction itself.
Being quite the pacifist spirit, Magistrix Arcaena had a role in the organization of the Argent Tournament and achieving the armistice that is in effect on the tournament grounds.
Arcaena went even so far that since the reignition of the Sunwell she occasionally travels to Theramore Isle and Stormwind City to visit the former citizens of Quel'Thalas, basically [[High elf]|high elves] whether if they consider to settle back in to the recalimed and healing kingdom. These diplomatic missions rarely are done without attrocities and her actions and words partake the quel'dorei's opinion very much, while the other races of the Alliance are pretty much offended by them. Although she is at qood terms with Lady Jaina Proudmoore, the ruler of Theramore, the local high elves are not fond of her "Come home" policy. Although King Varian Wrynn of Stormwind is often enfuriated with her presence, an unofficial deputy "office" was set up in Stormwind City with the help of an old Thalassian clan, much like hers was, which provides the high elves there, who whish to make the journey back to their old homeland, with a Portal to Silvermoon City. Many say that Prince Anduin Wrynn may have lent a helping hand in this, as he seems to be friendly with the Sun Magistrix Regal.
Eventually Arcaena received an nominal "Archmage" rank by the Kirin Tor after her extensive research was provided to the magi of Dalaran which involves the Fel energy - Arcane energy dynamics she observed and tested with the voluntary participation of high elf but especially blood elf members of the Kirin Tor.
As the tensions rise lately between the Alliance and the Horde and consequently or additionally between the quel'dorei and sin'dorei her work becomes harder in order.
Arcaena Sunvolant was born in Silvermoon City, Quel'Thalas to Magister Celadrion Sunvolant and Elraviel Morningsong. His father was one of the seven elf lords making up the Convocation of Silvermoon. She was raised to become a mage to one day grow up to the responsibilities to become a Magistrix of the Convocation herself. The Third War and the eventual Fall of Quel'Talas however intervened to this plan. At the point whenthe Scourge invaded her homeland Arcaena was spending her training in Dalaran under Prince Kael'thas Sunstrider. She only left the city before the unded armies turned towards Dalaran.
Remaining next to Kael'thas' side she returned to Quel'Talas, only to see it in ruins and its people either dead or dying because of the lack of the arcane currents of the desecrated Sunwell.
She supported Kael'thas all along the founding of the Sin'dorei and his mission to recalim the glory by harvesting the powers he could find in Outland. Up to the point he went missing at Tempest Keep with only Grand Magister Rommath bringing word of the shining future promised there. She was tasked by Kael'thas to help in the overseeing of the restoration of the Sunwell Plateau and the Magisters' Terrace on the Island of Quel Danas. Suspecting that something aweful is happening, Arcaena contacted with the Scryers trying to guess what Kael'thas' motives might be. After she learned that his former mentor attacked his former allies at Kirin'Var Village in Netherstorm it beacme apparent, that something's got wrong. While her duties bound her to assist the charging of the Sunwell she secretley cooperated with the Scryers from the Isle of Quel'Danas, and even played her role in bringing the Shattered Sun Offensive to the isle to oppose Kael'thas' minions and the demons of the Burning Legion those arrived there in the meantime. She apparently went missing during the time when adventurers assaulted on Kael'thas in his Magister's Asylum.
After all these happenings she returned to Silvermoon City where she revealed herself as the Dawnblade Magistrix who betrayed her master. After the regent leaders of Quel'Thalass learned of her part in the events she was deemed to be a defender of the kingdom.
Lor'themar Theron, the Regent Lord of Quel'Thalas appointed her first as the Thalassian Envoy Extraordinary to Dalaran, given her Kirin Tor contacts of the past. After numerous succesful diplomatic missions there she was appointed as Sun Magistrix Regal of the Kindom of Quel'Thalas, which means she is occupied with the foreign affairs of her homeland with the special focus to unite High elf splinter communities with the Thalassian Blood elves under the blessed rays of the Sunwell.
Her research of Fel- Divine- and Arcane energy dynamics in the high- and blood elves earned her an honorary title as an Archmage of the Kirin Tor.
