Origin of the Viperian

"the Earthmother's gentle hands spread out across the golden plains. Wherever the shadow of her arms passed, a noble people arose from the rich soil. The Shu'halo (the tauren) arose "

~Mists of Dawn~

"Many of the Shu'halo fell under the shadow's sway and embraced the ways of malice and wickedness."

~Sorrow of the Earthmother~

Rise of the Serpent

"Long ago, in the Mists of Creation, when the Earthmother opened and closed her eyes to light the world, the Earthmother - with An'she shining - set out her gentle and loving hands. Wherever her Shadow fell, a strange folk rose out of the dirt, elevated to a higher life. These were the Shu'halo. However, while all left and entered An'she's light, one chased after the Earthmother's hand - unrelenting in his zealous nature.

The strange child kept leaping up to the Hand, but fell short every time, regardless, he still lept. When An'she closed and Mu'sha opened, the rest of Her children fell asleep, save the strange one.

Impressed and saddened that she had not noticed her loyal child, she lifted him up. In the mists of night, she imparted upon him the grim truth of life, for only one of such devotion can comprehend it.

Setting the child back down, she called him "Koz'rahn" and told him to tell no one of his knowledge, for they were not ready yet. Bowing low in appreciation, Koz'rahn left to be with his people.

Time passed, and Koz'rahn was accepted, until something happened and he blurted out the truth - the truth of Death and Chaos. Angered, he was cast out from the Shu'halo and sat in exile. The distrust turned to hate and rage and he screamed into the wind, "Ishnu!!! Why did you tell me such a secret?! Why must I carry this burden?!" The Earthmother's responce was swift: "Such knowledge, while volatile...must be known...and guarded, so that it does not come to pass."

With that, Koz'rahn went into a deep place of the world and encountered an ancient and wise servant of the Earthmother, but this one too had been cast from the Light - forced to creep in Darkness. Koz'rahn spoke to the creature: "What are you?"

"I am the Serpent," it replied. "Keeper of Mystery and Secrets."

Koz'rahn and the Serpent found kinship with one another, and Koz'rahn took the embodiment of the Serpent as his own - in appreciation of his friend. Koz'rahn watched the Shu'halo as they hunted and warred, as they birthed and died. Every time one fell into great despair or showed grand devotion and loyalty, he approached them offering to share the knowledge. Few refused.

And so today, the Viperian are an order of secretive Tauren, watching from the Shadows and keep a Secret from the waking world. In the dark times ahead, however, the Secret may just come out all on its own..."

History

This that follows is the alleged history of the secretive order of the Viperian, the Szask'ne Rash

The Birth (+15,000 yrs ago)

Koz'rahn recruits Gosh the Heartless and Hora Grimtotem to the Viperian. The resulting arguement over succession following Koz'rhan's death increases tensions within the Order. A young Druid, named Sorrak, becomes the first Master through show of force and wisdom. Gosh and Hora are slain. Sorrak decrees the Council of Ten that remains the rule for the next 15.000 years.

The Golden Era (15,000 to 10,000 years ago)

The Viperian manage to increase in numbers and become a significant portion of the population, however, only the Nine Watchers and the Master are physically altered. This is the dark time spoken of in the Sorrow of the Earthmother. The virtuous Tribes overthrow and defeat the Council of Ten, leaving only one of the Nine Watchers alive. The lone surviving Viperian receeds into the shadows of history.

The Silence (10,000 to 2 years ago)

During the War of the Ancients, the Viperian served only a small role, primarily as guerilla hunters of highborn mages - so few existed, they go unmentioned. During the War of the Shifting Sands, they did not openly participate, but managed to record several incantations and writings from the Scarab Wall. During the Third War, the Viperian did not participate at all. Around this time, the current Master, Rokuto the Great, brings a wounded Tauren to the orcish Warsong Clan camp in Ashenvale.

The War of the Hidden Serpent (1 to 2 years ago)

The Druids of the Wailing Caverns begin to use their corruption to encroach upon several Viperian safe houses within the Emerald Dream. Rokuto calls the Council of Ten to Dreadmist Peak to prepare for battle. Only Rokuto, Wazne, Kon'Zasz, and a fresh convert named Kodar manage to survive. The Wailing Caverns are eventually cleansed by an undocumented plea to Thunder Bluff, wherein adventurers are sent into the Caverns.

The Culling (3 months ago)

The order is passed down through the Cenarion ranks as they prepare for war with the Silithid and Ahn-Qiraj: any Viperian that are found are to be terminated. Wazne and Kon'Zasz are hunted down by the Cenarion, Rokuto is slain fighting an army of Burning Blade Cultists in an attempt to claim the mountain completely for himself. A lone assassin attempts to kill Kodar, but Luciela - his mate - takes the dagger instead. She is raised immediately to the status of Serpent Mother (similar to a saint or protection) and Kodar goes into minor self-exile.

The Reclamation (Present Day)

Kodar returns to Dreadmist and purges the Burning Blade at the base of the mountain, an eerie agreement is forged where the two groups will not bother one another. Kodar ascends and becomes the new Master. One evening, Uruz, a young friend of Kodar's, agrees to become a Viperian. Kodar currently seeks powerful Tauren or shaman dissatisfied with the Cenarion Circle, and seeks the annhialation of the Circle.

The Undoing (Turn of the New Year)

The Master ((Kodar)), along with the four last Viperian, Uruz, Azfixia, Tokasa, and Whist, moved to undo the works of Ko'zhe, freeing the Order from the Old Gods forever. The last four Viperian were free from the Void, however Kodar is still linked to the Old Gods through several rituals that extend his life.

Basic Information

The Viperian are a secret organization that has shadowed the noble Tauren people since at least the time prior to the War of the Ancients. While the average Tauren worships the Earthmother as a whole, these Tauren focus their veneration on the Earthmother's Shadow ((called elsewhere Ko'zhe)), which - according to the early Tauren Myths - caused the race to spring up from the ground. They function similarly to the Cartel or an assassins guild, they are clandestine and hold knowledge of ancient secrets. Anyone can become a member of the order, but only those who have suffered and toiled in the service of Ko'zhe can rise to be called "Viperian".

The Viperian have recently become known in certain circles for being shrewd alliance crafters. It must be known that, although most Viperian share views with the Horde, the order itself is completely separate from the War - as evidenced by Kodar's recent pact with Griffonclaw and Mordread against Keruptis.

Ranks of the Order

There are several stages and ranks within the organization:

  • Initiates: Those who is just begining their way with the order, or who is allied with the Viperian in such a way that they are honored with a title.
  • Acolytes: Those have given themselves over to the order, but who have not yet undergone physical transformation.
  • Viperian: Those who have devoted their lives to the Viperian and to Ko'zhe the Shadow, their eyes are typically reptilian, and they show characteristics and behaviors often associated with reptiles ((eating raw meat, irritable, etc))
  • the Ten: Those who rule the Viperian and seek out new recruits - broken into two parts:
  • The Nine Watchers: The ruling council of the Viperian, they decide matters that affect the entire order.
  • The Master: The Right Claw of Ko'zhe, he is the long-lived leader of the entire organization and holds the utmost loyalty from everyone associated with the order ((down to the Initiates))

Viperian Known to Be Alive

  • Kodar Nighteye - the current Master and Right Claw of Ko'zhe.
  • Uruz - The first new Viperian and became one of The Nine Watchers after the Culling.
  • Zakaryus - Kodar's primary retainer, Acolyte, and right-hand Forsaken. After Kodar took him in, he was freed of Sylvanis's influence.
  • Tokasa - Kodar's Hellhound who, through Kodar's aid, became able to change into an Orc. He has been given the mantle of "Wolf of Ashenvale".
