About this guide

This guide will show you how to get your leatherworking skill up from 0 to 375. The guide will only use recipe's available at a trainer or from vendors.

This guide only uses recipes that require leather, hides and vendor bought material (thread, dye, salt).

This guide does not tell you how to get all the different recipe's from quests, vendors or drops. What you do once you hit 300 is entirely up to you.

Preparation

You are going to need a lot of leather and hides. Hides are a rare drop from skinning and difficult to get, however it is cheaper to get skill ups from hides since you can get skill ups from both curing them and later using them in recipes, so try to get the hides anyway. I will give alternatives if you don't get enough hides.

The recipe's used require vendor bought components such as threads and dye. These cost gold. To learn recipe's from a trainer also costs gold. The amount of gold needed is aproximately 40 to 50 gold if you farm all of the leather and hides. If you want to buy everything you need from the auction house expect to spend upwards to 250 gold. This does not include gold for recipe's from vendors or the auction house.

Below is a table that shows the amount of leather and hides needed. The minimum amount column shows the minimum amount needed if you would get a skill point every time you make something. However at some point a recipe will be yellow or even green when you make something so you won't allways get a skill point. The estimated amount column deals with this, so try to get the estimated amount of leather and hides. If you are buying all the leather and hides you need from the auction house, I suggest getting the minimum amount and only buy more when needed.

Moonglow Vest Quest

There is an alliance only leatherworking quest that requires you to make embossed leather gloves, boots and cloaks called "Moonglow Vest". You need to make one pair of gloves, five boots and five cloaks for this quest. The gloves and cloaks are allready part of the normal guide so just set those aside for the quest. Make five embossed leather boots from 80 to 85 instead of gloves to get the boots. You can get the quest from Lotherias in Darnassus near the leatherworking trainer.

Iif you don't have the medium hides, make dark leather boots to get to 130, dark leather cloaks to get to 140, dark leather pants to get to 145 and hillman's leather gloves to get to 150.

At 150 skill you can make cured heavy hides. You need 40 cured heavy hides in future recipe's so make those.

Make barbaric shoulders to 190 and guardian gloves to 200.

If you don't have the heavy hides, make heavy armor kits to get to 175, green leather armor to get to 185 and dusky bracers to get to 200. The green leather armor is a vendor bought recipe form Wenna Silkbeard in Wetlands for the alliance and George Candarte in Hillsbrad Foothills for the horde. If you have a limited amount of heavy hides, use them to make guardian gloves. The dusky bracers recipe is expensive.

Once you hit 200 talk to the appropriate trainer to become Artisan Leatherworker. You have to be level 35 to become Artisan Leatherworker.

Make thick armor kits to get to 225.

Make nightscape headbands to get to 235. Normally i don't go this far into yellow with a recipe, however the headbands are so cheap to make compared to other available recipes that it is still wortwhile even if you only get a skill point every two or three headbands.

Make nightscape pants to get to 250.

Make rugged armor kits to get to 260.

Make Wicked Leather Gauntlets to get to 275. If you can get Heavy Scorpid Scale cheaply or easily you can also use the Heavy Scorpid Bracers recipe to get to 275. Both the Wicked Leather Gauntlets and Heavy Scorpid Bracers are vendor bought recipes.

Once you hit 275 talk to the appropriate trainer to become Master Leatherworker. You have to be level 50 to become Master Leatherworker.

Wild Leather Quest Line

At level 30 and with 200 leatherworking you can do the Wild Leather quest line in Feralas. For Alliance the questline starts with Pratt McGrubben in Feathermoon Stronghold. For Horde the questline starts with Jangdor Swiftstrider in Camp Mojache. The questline is a prerequisite for the tribal leatherworking specialization.

Allthough you can start the quests at 200 leatherworking, most of the recipes used require a higher skill level. We can use this to get some skill points.

For the complete questline you have to make the following:

  • 6x Thick Armor Kit
  • 2x Nightscape Headband
  • 2x Nightscape Tunic
  • 2x Turtle Scale Gloves
  • 2x Turtle Scale Bracers
  • 2x Turtle Scale Breastplate
  • 2x Nightscape Pants
  • 2x Turtle Scale Helm
  • 2x Nightscape Boots

Follow the normal guide in the section above until 215.

Make in the following order six Thick Armor Kits, two Nightscape Tunics, two Turtle Scale Gloves, two Turtle Scale Bracers and two Turtle Scale Breastplates.

Make Nightscape Headbands to get to 235, keep two for the quest.

Make two Turtle Scale Helms and two Nightscape Boots.

Make Nightscape Pants to get to 250, keep two for the quest.

You should now have all the items needed for the wild leather questline.
