In the aftermath of the Battle of Mount Hyjal, several necromancers were able to escape the onslaught of the Great Alliance. Caedus Arnold, a powerful necromancer who was feinting allegiance to the Scourge, rallied the surviving necromancers to his cause. He also broke the Lich King's control over them.
