My name is Joshua Underwood (alias Joshmaul, born June 5, 1987). I live in Lowell, Massachusetts, and I've been playing World of Warcraft since September 6, 2005. My primary characters are:

  • Joshmaul <Agents of Oblivion> - Level 80 Orc Warlock (Medivh US)
  • Ordevaas <Agents of Oblivion> - Level 80 Blood Elf Paladin (Medivh US)
  • Saavedro - Level 80 Human Paladin (Eonar US)
  • Artimus - Level 80 Human Death Knight (Eonar US)
  • Jaedenlaek - Level 75 Draenei Shaman (Eonar US)

Lately, I'm known among my immediate family as being something of an expert on lore...and a bit of a corruptor, I will admit. *grin* First, I got my stepfather into the game, which he's played ever since (though part of me wonders whether that was a good idea - he's easily addictable!) and more recently I got my mother reading Warcraft books and asking me questions about characters and events. Which, if I don't know them right off the top of my head, I will come here to WoWWiki to look up. (Love you all.)

I won the WoW Stratics beta key contest on November 17, 2006 and was in it from November 29, 2006 until January 10, 2007. I could be found as either Joshmaul (a copy of Saavedro, level 61 human paladin), Velenkayn (level 20 draenei paladin) or Ordevaas (Saavedro spelled backwards, level 20 blood elf paladin) on the beta server Hellfire.

On August 28, 2008, my stepfather received a beta key and allowed me to use my account (with the two 70s and a third on the way), provided I allowed him to create a death knight. I can be found as Saavedro, Joshmaul, Ordevaas or Devaneaux (human death knight) on the Northrend beta server. I was in the beta test from August 28 to October 28, 2008, and got a hell of a lot more done level-wise than I did in BC beta!

Contents

Origin of the Character Names

  • Joshmaul: My nickname
  • Saavedro: Antagonist of Myst III: Exile, portrayed by character actor Brad Dourif
  • Ordevaas: Saavedro spelled backwards
  • Sekhesmet: Something Egyptian-sounding...I thought this was the name of a Tomb Kings special character from Warhammer Fantasy Battles, but it turns out that guy's name was "Sehenesmet". Well, you can give me credit for trying.
  • Jaeden'laek: Kil'jaeden was part of the root for this name; this was a character I created for a Star Trek race called the Gorak'nar, represented by draenei. Jaeden'laek in that medium was an "Elder" (Broken) and has undergone various transformations - good guy, bad guy, so on.
  • Decibelius: A play on the word "decibel". I was Chief of Sound Control for the California Sports Car Club region of SCCA from 2003 to 2008.
  • Areinnye: A Romulan female name that means "hell".
  • Arrhae: Another Romulan female name with no specific meaning, but referring to a woman of great power.
  • Artimus: Artimus Devaneaux, one of my most notorious villains in multiple mediums - Star Trek, Star Wars, Warhammer 40,000. Now he makes his Warcraft universe appearance.
  • Settra: A Tomb Kings special character from Warhammer Fantasy Battles. And yes, I checked.
  • Koschei: In addition to being from Russian mythology, Koschei was - according to Doctor Who novels - the real name of the Time Lord known as the Master.
  • Velenkayn: Named for the Prophet Velen. Another Gorak'nar - this time a Warrior (uncorrupted draenei).
  • Caedus: Darth Caedus, the Sith Lord name of Jacen Solo.
  • Euphrati: Euphrati Keeler, a character from the Warhammer 40,000 Horus Heresy novel series.

Personal Victories

  • Saavedro: General Drakkisath, Upper Blackrock Spire - I like to tell this story a lot. Back when he used to drop as little as one of the Blood of the Black Dragon Champion, I went with a group of guildies on Medivh to take him on. The hunter we had with us - who was not a guildie - was a complete egotistical imbecile. He did not kite Drakk at all, and it was amazing that we were still able to defeat the guards. With Drakk down to about 15% and the rest of the party (except for the aforementioned idiot hunter and myself) dead, I was forced to tank him myself. I only had mostly greens, a couple LF pieces, and the Ice Barbed Spear from AV. I managed to kill him, and the three of us who needed the blood got it.
  • Saavedro: Obtaining the Charger. Like most things with me, this required a hell of a lot of trial and error - and a loan or two from friends. I was almost always broke, never having more than, say, 20 gold at one time. I somehow was able to get all the mats, and made all the money I could (and took out loans when I couldn't) to get through it. The first run, we wiped on Darkreaver, which pissed me off immensely...but we were able to get him on the second go.
  • Saavedro: Slaying Onyxia and obtaining her head.

BC

Postcard from Quel'Danas?
  • Joshmaul: Reaching Outland. Though I knew Saavedro would, Joshmaul was a little iffy. I had never been able to level him all that fast. Perhaps it was something about 1)obtaining my epic and 2)getting better gear than this Sunken Temple crap I had on was more of an incentive. I did my levelling in Silithus (killing bugs) and Eastern Plaguelands (wiping out Scourge).
  • Joshmaul: Obtaining the Dreadsteed. Though it was said that it would be more expensive and more difficult than the paladin mounts, I had surprisingly little difficulty in obtaining my warlock epic. It took me several months to obtain my paladin epic, but within about a week of hitting 60 I had managed to get my warlock one. Me and three other locks joined with a hunter to run Dire Maul - East to get the key, and West for the mount. Doing the ritual to get the mount was easy. Getting to the ritual circle (Immol'thar)...that was a little bit harder! We had quite a few wipes, our gear was slagged, and I thought, "Hell, I'm not gonna get this in one run, no way, no how." To my surprise, we did.
  • Saavedro: Reaching 70.
  • Saavedro: Transferring to Eonar to join my friend and his guild, and with their help, obtaining both the Master's Key to Karazhan and the Key of Time for Heroic Caverns of Time. Finally.
  • Joshmaul: Reaching 70.
  • Saavedro: Finally clearing out Karazhan! Still need to work on getting me some gear, though...
  • Ordevaas: Reaching Outland.
  • Ordevaas: Obtaining my paladin epic mount with a blood elf paladin. Which is far better, considering they get a tabard for it - and it was also much, much easier. The Alliance epic took several months; this one took only two days.
  • Joshmaul: Three biggies: My first 25-man run, my first official raid with Joshmaul (outside of the Zul'Aman PTR), and my first piece of Tier 4 ([Voidheart Mantle] from High King Maulgar). Not long after I joined Stacked Deck, we cleaned out Gruul's Lair.
  • Joshmaul: Exalted with the Mag'har, got my own talbuk mount.
  • Saavedro: My first clear of Gruul's Lair. No T4, though. Pity...
  • Saavedro: My first paladin Tier 4: [Justicar Diadem] from Prince Malchezaar.
  • Joshmaul: Finally obtaining the key to Karazhan. Took bloody long enough.
  • Joshmaul: Wasting Magtheridon - and getting his head as a trophy. Saavedro can keep his [Dragonslayer's Signet] - [Band of Crimson Fury] FTW.
  • Saavedro: Wasting Magtheridon. No head, though...
  • Saavedro: Obtaining a new title - "Saavedro of the Shattered Sun"!
  • Saavedro: Obtaining my epic flying mount, after about a month's worth of Sunwell dailies and a last-minute 500g loan from a guildie (thanks Gnasha). Now to see if I can get my nether drake!
  • Saavedro: Two weeks after the flying mount, got the nether drake!
  • Saavedro: Exalted with the Kurenai, another character with a talbuk mount.
  • Joshmaul: Completed the Jenkins achievement and Neutral [60] Avast Ye, Admiral! in the span of about six hours! LEEEEEROOOOOY....arr....
  • Ordevaas: Participated in the second Scourge invasion and got a tabard out of it!
  • Joshmaul: Finished off Zul'jin and cleared out Zul'Aman.
A screenshot I took of the zeppelin tower in Tirisfal, which made it on the front page!
  • Ordevaas: Hitting 70 and wasting Gruul, Prince Malchezaar and Hakkar - all in less than 24 hours!
  • Ordevaas: Earned the title of Ambassador by becoming exalted with the whole Horde.

WotLK

  • Ordevaas: Completing the achievement  Of Blood and Anguish by defeating Vladof the Butcher in the Amphitheater of Anguish.
  • Saavedro: Accomplishing something I have been wanting to do for a long time, and now had a really good reason to: Slaying all of the leaders of the Horde and obtaining my black war bear. For the Alliance!
  • Ordevaas: Within about 24 hours, I hit level 77 and obtained the  World Explorer achievement!
  • Artimus: Technically this is a pre-BC achievement, but it was done with a death knight - defeated C'Thun in AQ40. (I spent most of that time flat on my face, but let's not get technical.)
  • Ordevaas: Last pre-WotLK 70, first 80!
  • Ordevaas: My first WotLK raid - defeating Sartharion in Obsidian Sanctum! (And all I got out of it was this [Satchel of Spoils]...rolled 100 for it, so I did!)
  • Saavedro: At last! Flight in Northrend!
  • Ordevaas: My first heroic raid - again, Obsidian Sanctum! No loot this time, though...
  • Saavedro: A second  Of Blood and Anguish clear!
  • Artimus: Got my death chicken...er, [Winged Steed of the Ebon Blade].
  • Saavedro: That's level 80 #2...
  • Saavedro: First Wrath raid with this guy - Vault of Archavon, and the priest legs and warlock robe dropped. One priest, and no lock...you figure out how this worked! *grin*
  • Saavedro: First real raid with potential for gear: Naxxramas 10-man. We tore that place apart - three whole quarters in the span of about four hours. Here's hoping I can finish this sucker off...
  • Saavedro: Did OS25 - and actually got stuff out of it! Which is more than I can say for Ordevaas...
  • Saavedro: Naxx10 continued...Kel'Thuzad is dead! WOOHOO! Two-and-a-half frickin' years...
  • Saavedro:  Ambassador of the Alliance and  Leading the Cavalry - good Lord, I have more mounts than I know what to do with!
  • Saavedro: My first Tier 7 (the pants from Gluth) - from heroic Naxxramas even! Also almost killed Kel'Thuzad in that....he and the Military Quarter are all I need to finish off 'roic Naxx.
  • Saavedro:  The Loremaster has claimed his rightful title...
  • Artimus: My first DK title - and my first Alliance Bloodsail!
  • Saavedro: Malygos has fallen to the power of the Loremaster!
  • Artimus: Third top level, second Alliance (ever) and first top-level character created entirely during this expansion - hit level 80 in Storm Peaks! WOOHOO!
  • Saavedro: Killed Kel'Thuzad in heroic Naxxramas, and got another T7 (this time in healing gear!) - so now I've killed all the (main) bosses of the pre-Ulduar raids. Now to do Sarth with some drakes up...
  • Artimus: First death knight Tier 7 from slaying Sartharion in OS10.
  • Artimus: My personal dream realized - a character with  [Rivendare's Deathcharger]!!!!!
  • Saavedro: FINALLY!  Champion of the Frozen Wastes! NO MORE OCULUS! HOORAY!!!
  • Jaedenlaek: My first non-pally/warlock/DK character in Outland, and the first who actually had to pay for his epic mount (no, I didn't wait until the patch came out - SPEED, MORE SPEED!!!)
  • Saavedro: A BC achievement, but nonetheless - defeated Archimonde in Hyjal. Now for Kael, Vashj, Illidan and Kil'jaeden, and that's all the BC raid bosses.
  • Artimus: Another successful Naxx clear! (And I got a hell of a lot more out of it in one lockout than I did with Saav in about three!)
  • Joshmaul: Fourth level 80 character (I termed this an "ABOUT F%#$ING TIME" achievement, heh)!
  • Joshmaul: And what better way to celebrate your first full day as an 80 than to go into Naxxramas and clean the place out in a single evening?
  • Saavedro: Attained the title of Crusader and exalted with the Silver Covenant. Finally, some dailies to fill the gap left by the loss of my Valiant's dailies...
  • Saavedro, Artimus and Joshmaul: Getting a taste of the Trial of the Champion - on the first day, no less.
  • Saavedro: Fighting the first boss in Trial of the Crusader (in the first week, it's the only boss in Trial of the Crusader). Well, bosses would be better, considering there were three different encounters for this one fight...
  • Saavedro: An almost-total clearout of Ulduar, and not one, not two, but three pieces of Tier 8!
  • Artimus: First taste of tanking Ulduar. Too bad the group sucked...
  • Jaedenlaek: The Farseer has arrived in Northrend.
  • Saavedro: Killing Onyxia - again!
  • Saavedro: Cleaning out the Crusaders' Coliseum - all the bosses in ToC10, all but Anub'arak (we'll get back to him) in ToC25, and an attempt (at least taking down Gormok) in ToGC10.
  • Saavedro: Got some more head from Onyxia. Heh heh. Heh heh heh. *ahem* Seriously though, got her head to bring back at level 80.
