Biography
A little over twenty years ago, Calistria was born in a small town in the Kingdom of Lordaeron. As the Scourge began its campaign in Lordaeron during the Third War, they launched an attack on her hometown. The Scourge rampaged through the town, killing everyone they could find. Calia’s parents, not willing to let their daughter be killed by them, snuck her out of the town and told her to find some place safe. While her family and the entire town were destroyed, Calia miraculously escape completely unharmed and found her way to Hearthglen. She remained safe there during the Scourge’s onslaught on the town thanks to Prince Arthas and Lord Uther; however, she witnessed firsthand the atrocities of the Scourge. On the third floor of a building in town, Calia watched as ghouls, necromancers, skeletons and even abominations attacked the walls of Hearthglen. As if the abominations themselves weren’t enough to make her sick, witness the necromancers raise Lordaeron troops – seconds after they had fallen – into undead, was the final straw. She couldn’t help but imagine what these monsters did to her hometown.
The Scarlet Crusader
After the Scarlet Crusade took control of Hearthglen, Calia immediately joined them, seeking retribution for her family by destroying all undead. Originally she was unsure of her skills, but with the help of the Crusade, she soon found her place in the priesthood.
In Hearthglen, Calia received her basic training. After becoming an adequate priestess, she was sent to the Scarlet Monastery, where her training would continue. On her way to the monastery, she and the other crusaders were attacked by Forsaken lightslayers. They were defeated, but not before taking the lives of several crusaders. Calia was thankful that at least these “Forsaken” did not have the power to raise the fallen into undeath.
After several months of training at the monastery, a gang of adventurers attacked the monastery, where they killed hundreds before finally leaving, including attacking the Scarlet Cathedral. Calia was actually sent out on a “purging mission” in Tirisfal Glades when the attack happened. Once again, Calia managed to escape death.
When her advanced training was complete, Calia returned to Hearthglen. She had a natural aptitude for the light and excelled in both smiting her enemies with it, as well as empowering her allies – more so than an average priest. Soon, the leadership at Tyr’s Hand heard of her skills and sent for her. She was reassigned to Tyr’s hand, entering the Eastern Plaguelands for the first time since its fall to the Scourge.
The trip to Tyr’s Hand called for the escort to travel through Corin's Crossing to get to the Scarlet bastion. In the town, a large battle ensued. Though the Scarlet’s managed to fight through the Crossing, they lost a large number of crusaders to the Scourge forces. As they pressed on to Tyr’s Hand, Calia looked back and saw necromancers raise several of the men who she had just fought alongside into undeath.
Battle for the Scarlet Enclave
One fateful day, the dread citadel of the Scourge, Naxxramas, vanished from the skies of the Eastern Plaguelands. For a short time, civilians celebrated, but the Crusader’s knew better. They had fought the undead long enough to know that, like the calm before a storm, things were about to get much, much worse.
Shortly after, Acherus: The Ebon Hold appeared in the skies above the once hidden Scarlet Enclave. Calia quickly reported to New Avalon, eager to take the fight right to the undead. The Crusade was already mobilizing against the Scourge, and New Avalon was almost in a panic. Citizens were terrified, and crusaders prepared for the coming battle, and priests blessed the troops and their weapons. Calia repeatedly blessed troops and equipment, making sure both were instilled with the light greatly enough to weather against the coming storm.
When Havenshire was lost, everyone in New Avalon began to double-time, preparing themselves as much as possible, while the land on the other side of the walls was being burned and overrun with the undead.
At first it began with a few dozen ghouls, then some skeletal gryphons. Before long dozens upon dozens of ghouls were rushing the wall – no less than 50 ghouls at a time. Calia and the other priests did what they could to keep the warriors strength up and healing their wounds, sometimes engaging in the fight themselves. When the death knights began storming New Avalon, the crusaders fought valiantly against them, but they were cut down too quickly – the priests could not heal them fast enough.
When it became apparent that the Scarlet Enclave was lost, High General Abbendis gathered the most devoted and elite of the Crusade at set sail for Northrend, renaming the group of Scarlets the “Scarlet Onslaught.” Calia was one of these elites and accompanied Abbendis on her flagship, the Sinner's Folly…
