Sarin, is a male Nathrezim. He is one of the few of his kind not affiliated with the Burning Legion, instead serving his own agenda. Seeking immortality and absolute power, Sarin has visited many worlds before coming to Azeroth.
Unlike most Nathrezim, Sarin prefers the physical arts over the arcane. While most of his kind would choose a spellbook at every turn, Sarin would gladly take up a sword and charge into a violent conflict. Of course, Sarin has an impressive and dangerous plethora of spells as his disposal, and he uses them frequently.
Origins
Edit
Sarin’s origins are unclear. There is talk amongst his followers that he comes from another plane of existence, possibly the same plane that the eternals reside. Other rumors are that he is not truly a dreadlord, merely taking the guise of one. The only information he has disclosed is that he is from a world unreachable by means available to mortals, and that he has traveled to many, many words before coming to Azeroth.
Coming to Azeroth
Edit
Interestingly, Sarin had visited Azeroth before – decades ago. Even more interesting is that Azeroth was one of the first worlds he visited in his quest for immortality. During the Second War, Sarin arrived in the middle of the war and took a particular interest in the orcs and their Horde. For the entire length of the war he observed the destruction the orcs and humans wrought upon one another. When the Second War ended, Sarin left Azeroth, originally with no thought to returning again.
In the beginning of the Scourge’s campaign across Lordaeron, teams were created and set out across Lordaeron. One of the teams constructed a small base and attempted to summon a dreadlord leader into the world via their Altar of Darkness. Sarin used the opportunity to enter the world, and take command of the small group. Instead of summoning a dreadlord of the Legion, the undead summoned in Sarin. The undead, completely unaware that he was not employed by the Legion, accepted his leadership immediately and without question. He named the small team the Hellhounds, and began their march upon the human lands.
At the end of the war, after Prince Arthas merged with the Lich King, most of the separate teams were disbanded, their troops merged into one massive war machine. Sarin, holding no true loyalty to the Lich King, nor the Scourge, decided to keep his troops together and under his control. Confusion occurred in the ranks as the sentient forces debated who they held allegiance to; their direct commander, Sarin, or the Lich King. Eventually a civil war broke out with nearly 60% of the troops attempting to leave the Hellhounds to join the rest of the Scourge. In the conflict that ensued, about 45% of the Scourge-loyalist forces were killed, with the Sarin-loyalists loosing another 10% of their forces. While the Hellhounds came out victorious, overall they had lost almost 70% of their original forces. This caused the Hellhounds to become more of an underground force, rather than the open war machine it once was.
When the war ended, Sarin decided to attempt to gain immortality on this world. As the world once again became bathed in chaos, Sarin began looking for others to join him.
Currently
Edit
Presently, Sarin leads his disciples in Northrend, primarily against the forces of the Lich King... or so it would seem. Sarin’s known fascination with the undead has created rumor that he and the Lich King hold a secret alliance. Counter-arguments to that rumor however include that the Lich King would not ally himself with demons, much less a Nathrezim, who served as his jailors when he was a pawn of the Burning Legion.
