Biography
Edit
Once a noble paladin and wealthy landowner, the man who would become known as Baron Soulreaver was seduced by the Lich King’s call and answered. Going to some secret Scourge bastion – thought to be Scholomance – Soulreaver met with Baron Rivendare, fellow Baron and soon to be fellow Death knight. After Baron Soulreaver pledged his life to the Lich King, Baron Rivendare drove his runeblade through the human’s heart. Soulreaver’s body fell to the ground, lifeless. Rivendare held his sword parallel above the dead Baron’s body, the runic circle on the ground below Soulreaver began to glow with an unholy green light, as what appeared to be ghostly heads circled around the Baron’s corpse. This lasted for about a minute, maybe more, before the unholy glow died down and the ghostly heads vanished. Rivendare put his blade down, and Baron Soulreaver pushed himself off the floor. It was at this point that Baron Soulreaver became the being known today as Baron Soulreaver, whatever part of his past that was good or righteous was gone, along with his true name. Baron Rivendare gave Baron Soulreaver his runeblade, the weapon all death knights carry.
Baron Soulreaver studied under Baron Rivendare’s tutelage, and that coupled with the fact that it was Rivendare who raised him, made him a very dangerous and powerful death knight.
Third War
Edit
In the time leading up to the Third War, Baron Soulreaver assisted in bringing members into the Cult of the Damned. He used his wealth and influence as a former paladin of the Knights of the Silver Hand, to bring new members into the fold.
The Third War officially started, the Scourge was revealed and the undead armies began marching, their forces being bolstered with every fallen human. Baron Soulreaver was a very successful leader during the war, so much so that the Scourge leadership trusted him with critical missions. While preparing for the Siege of Tiravor, a critical siege, the Scourge reassigned Soulreaver to aid a huge army. The army was comprised of several smaller armies, and though they all had glamorous track records, the leadership felt that this mission was important enough that they would require all the help they could get.
There were about six separate, but huge armies that combined to create the massive fighting force to lay siege to the human city. Baron Soulreaver was assigned to the army, the Necroknights, a particularly well known army with an impressive record of success. During the actual siege, Baron Soulreaver became well acquainted with the leaders of the allied armies. One particular commander was the leader of the Hellhounds, the Nathrezim lord Sarin. The Hellhounds and the Necroknights had become close allies, meeting up with each other by chance early in the war, and working together ever since. The two leaders became close collaborators, coordinating operations with utmost efficiency and effectiveness. After the siege, Baron Soulreaver was reassigned, being put in command of his own detachment of troops. Approximately a month later, Soulreaver’s troops meet up with the Hellhounds and Necroknights and began working together with them. Soulreaver was officially inducted as a member of the Hellhounds, though he still commanded his own troops individually.
True Death
Edit
During a massive, climactic battle against the living, Baron Soulreaver led a huge army of troops against the human fortifications, in a final desperate attack against the living. The battle was fierce, with both armies absolutely unyielding. As the battle raged on, the Scourge finally managed to create an opening and they promptly took it. Soulreaver, flanked by ghouls and abominations, charged through the waves of soldiers to the human leader. The Baron engaged the paladin, and the two fought a desperate battle against each other. In the end, the living human was the victor; Baron Soulreaver lay dead on the ground for the final time. With the circumstances, the humans could not take the extra precautionary measures by burning his body, to ensure that he could not be raised into undeath again. Even though the Baron was dead the battle still raged, and as the Scourge began pouring through the walls, the precious seconds were too costly to set his body alight.
It is not known what happened to the Baron’s body however, though it is believed that one of the towers collapsed on top of him and he was buried beneath the rubble.
