General

Klarn began back in December of 2004. I'll have to check my /played to see how long I have been at 60 on this char. I have contributed here mainly because I want to add to the pages about the classes I play and potentially share some of the macro's I have written.

Classes

I have one char of every class mainly to reserve char names. My main character is a Paladin. I have played a druid and a priest to approximately level 20. Currently I am having the most alt fun with my mage Howitzer. Primarily due to the drastic difference in dps :p.

Talent Guide

The following is my level by level suggestions for optimal talent distribution while leveling to forty. Remember everyone re-spec's numerous times so keep that in mind. This guide is to get you to forty as quickly as possible. At that point you can get a feel for the play style you are enjoying and think about re-specing. No one really likes to admit it but the name of the game is grinding. The key to grinding is finding quick spawning castor types (low hit points and low ac) and maximizing your DPS.
  • 10 - 14 Divine Intellect: Mo Mana Mo Mana Mo Mana. Plus to help with the grind one needs to go directly to Consecration.
  • 15 - 19 Spiritual Focus: Continue healing even when beat upon.
  • 20 Consecration: Helps grinding and tanking.

At this point a Paladin's DPS really begins to plateau while all other classes continue to increase almost linearly. Hence we switch to the Retribution tree.

  • 21 - 25 Improved Blessing of Might: Other than items and equipment this will be your biggest boost to DPS.
  • 26 - 30 Benediction: Mana efficiency is key. See "Seal and Blessing Sequencing"
  • 31 Seal of Command: Even after the nerf it is still the Paladins best bonus to damage. If you add to your skill set the Stun + Judgement of Command instead of the standard Stun + heal you will be doing yourself a favor.
  • 32 - 36 Conviction: Increasing your chance to crit means speeding up the death of mobs.
  • 37 - 38 Improved Judgement: 1.9 brought changes that improved a paladins DPS but specifically due to the judgement system. So the quicker you can judge again the better.
  • 39 - 40 Improved Retribution Aura: Even though in end game I have re-spec'd away from this I still used it quite heavily while leveling. And once again remember everyone re-specs. Get yourself a few shields. One with a stamina enchant and one with a shield spike. Add Consecration, Retribution Aura and a Shield spike together and you have stackable DPS for groups of mobs. In addition I still use this combo as my "Rogue" killer :P

Seal and Blessing Sequencing

Some of these sequences are talent spec independent (mana and health conservation) others are designed for Retribution spec'd Paladins. The new /castsequence macro functionality allows one to easily implement these combinations.
  • Mana Conservation - Once judged with seal of wisdom each hit to the judged target has a chance to grant up to +59 mana to the attacker. In conjunction with Seal of Wisdom, active on the paladin, s/he can generate +59+90 mana per hit. In addition Blessing of Wisdom can generate +33/tick. With a fast 1h a paladin can generate up to 149+149+33 ~= +333 mana per tick. And that does not take into consideration "Improved Blessing of Wisdom talent" or +mana regen gear. The Concentration Aura just helps to ensure you get that heal off in time.

Step 0: Concentration Aura Step 1: Seal of Wisdom Step 2: Judgement Step 3: Seal of Wisdom Step 4: Blessing of Wisdom

  • Health Conservation - Once judged with seal of light each hit to judged target has a chance to grant up to +61 health to the attacker. Simultaneously seal of light active on the paladin can grant +61+94 health per hit to the paladin. Add Blessing of Light and Concentration Aura to aid your healing spells. A paladin can generate 155 health per hit. The Concentration Aura just helps to ensure you get that heal off in time.

Step 0: Concentration Aura Step 1: Seal of Light Step 2: Judgement Step 3: Seal of Light Step 4: Blessing of Light

  • 2H "Damage" Sequence - This sequence is truely for the Retribution spec'd, due to the Sanctity Aura and Seal of Command. Also while utilizing a damage sequence it's important to pay attention to the current seal timer. One should judge the seal just before the timer expires to get full benefit of the seal and its judgement. The sequence below also takes into consideration the bonus to damage one gets if your target is stunned.

Step 0: Sanctity Aura Step 1: Seal of Crusader Step 2: Judgement Step 3: Blessing of Might Step 4: Seal of Command Step 5: Hammer of Justice Step 6: Judgement

  • 1H "Damage" Sequence

My new healing slot. Got this off the forums and modified it slightly. This macro, with a friendly targeted, will use the shorter heal while in combat, the longer heal if out of combat. In addition it will select your targets target if your current target is an enemy otherwise it will cast holy light on yourself.

/cast [help, combat] Flash of Light; [help] Holy Light; [target=targettarget, help] Flash of Light; [target=player] Holy Light

This next one is a shield/bandage button. Basically if I'm in combat and have no target then hitting the button again will auto bandage.

/castsequence [combat, target=none] reset=combat/target Divine Shield, Heavy Runecloth Bandage; Divine Shield

Since 2.0 I have not done any PVE so I still need to verify this one. This is a single slot to sequence the SoW, J, SoW or SoL, J, SoL. It is toggled simply by holding the alt key down while hitting the button.

/castsequence [harm, modifier:alt] reset=combat/target Seal of Wisdom, Judgement, Seal of Wisdom; [harm] Seal of Light, Judgement, Seal of Light

"Damage" Sequence. This one I cannot test currently since I do not have Seal of Command. I plan to respec and pic it up though.

/castsequence [equiped:Two-Hand,combat] reset=combat/target Seal of Crusader, Judgement, Seal of Command, Judgement; Seal of Crusader, Judgement, Seal of Righteousness, Judgement
