Sample paragraph illustrating use of icon and/or text. This is the section in the Food article where I made use of a {{BC}} template that places the inline icon Bc icon followed by a text link, The Burning Crusade ({{bc-inline}} [[World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade| The Burning Crusade]]).

Labeling options illustrated in this sandbox are:

===Raw food types=== (1) Two new food types, raw meat and raw fish, were added with the release of The Burning Crusade. There is not a whole lot of documentation or examples of raw meat and raw fish. It is clear that consumable food items with the name 'raw ...' such as the raw fishes, are not of the type 'raw ...'; raw fish are (generally) edible consumables, and player characters cannot eat the new raw food types. The one example (on Petopia, see External links below) is Inv misc food 14 [Partially Digested Meat] which appears to be a poor quality vendor trash item. The addition of the two 'raw ...' types does not appear to be a significant factor in game play; the four pet types (Dragonhawks, Nether Rays, Ravagers, and Serpents) that can eat one or both of these can also eat the more readily available normal version. Interestingly, the mob, Crocolisks, that drop the one known example, Partially Digested Meat, will not eat it when tamed as a pet.

'Ingredients' is not the same thing as the raw types, but there may be some overlap. Meat eaters will all eat pretty much any meat ingredient that looks like meat, but will not eat Inv misc slime 01 [Spider Ichor], for example. And, notably, both 'trade good ingredient' and 'raw type' occur in meat and fish only.

===Raw food types=== (6)

Bc icon This section concerns content exclusive to The Burning Crusade.

Two new food types, raw meat and raw fish, were added with the release of World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade.

CommentsEdit

  • (1), the short text that uses a redirect seems wrong to me; I prefer linking to the main page and not redirecting.
  • (2), the short text with a direct link to the main page seems clear enough.
  • (3), the long text; not my cup of tea, but it is also clear enough.
  • (4), the in-line icon; draws the eye, highlights context if you are familiar with it, may not be entirely clear on its own.
  • (5), Inline icon followed by short text; obviously my choice, since that's what I used. I like how the icon is available so that you can know what the context is while skimming, but the label clearly states what it is.
  • (6), The BC section template seems inappropriate to me. The content has been applied in conjunction with TBC, as if it were a patch, but the content is not strictly BC content (not 'exclusive to BC'). Notice that with the section label, you still need to explain how the content relates to TBC, so the link words have not been removed, only the actual link.

GoalsEdit

This is only about a particular template in a minor way. Whatever groupthink grows out of this should be applied consistently to similar uses for a consistent look and feel across WoWWiki; on WotLK links, for instance. --Madkaugh (talk) 19:07, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
