Minionman/Draenei History

< Minionman

(This starts after Illidan is defeated at the Frozen Throne.)

Before Illidan's attack on the Black citadel, the Draenei in Outland had been almost destroyed. The first orc attacks (Before Draenor was destroyed) had pushed the Draenei into the mountains, the explosion of Draenor had killed many of the remaining Draenei, and under Magtheridon, the orcs had slowly been killing off most of the remaining draenei. Although the draenei had learned to hide, and defend themselves somewhat against Magtheridon, the small number of Draenei stood little long term chance against the demonically enhanced orcs and the demons themselves.

When Illidan attacked Outland and captured the Black citadel, many draenei were excited, and saw Illidan as a potential savior. Illidan had allied with a small group of broken Draenei under Akama, a former draenei priest, and with his help had taken over the black citadel. While Illidan travelled ot northrend to fight the Lich King, akama acted as illidan's representative on Outland, and ordered the fel orcs and demons out of the ancient Draenei capital of Shattrath. Soon, the Draenei priesthood had repopulated the city, as well as several Naaru who had been summoned back.

The Draenei soon began to worry, however, that Illidan's blood elves and naga would themselves turn evil. The Naga openly talked about their ancestry as Night elves who had supported the Legion, and the blood elves regularly experimented with demonic magic. Only because Illidan had closed off the demonic portals, and because Illidan was working more as a mercenary for Kil'jaeden than as a loyal supporter did the draenei accept this state of affairs.

Tempest KeepEdit

As the Draenei resettled Outland, they summoned Naaru to the shattered world as well. The Naaru themselves saw Outland as a strategically important world to control, thanks to its portals. A large group of Naaru arrived in their dimensional fortress Tempest Keep.

The blood elves, however, had detected the Naaru's arrival, and thinking it was a potential demonic invasion, attacked and captured tempest keep, imprisoning the naaru inside. At this point, the blood elves on Outland retained most of their sanity, and they agreed with little argument to release the Naaru when asked to do so by the Draenei. the blood elves did ask, however, to investigate tempest keep, to perhaps gain some magical insight or simply understand its devices.

Around this time, the Draenei's oldest leader, Velen, had a series of visions and dreams, revealing to him that a naaru would be captured and destroyed in a battle with the legion, but would redeem a group of people treading dangerously close to being fully corrupted by the legion. Velen did not know at first which group the prophecy was talking about, which Naaru would be captured, or when the prophecy would actually take place.

Velen always documented carefully his dreams and visions very carefully, and on examination of this prophecy he though that the Naaru's capture would most likely take place in Tempest keep. His visions of the demonically corrupted race was blurry, but suggested either the blood elves, or some other light skinned race, such as the humans that the blood elves often described as being on a world called azeroth. Velen travelled to tempest keep to discuss this prophecy with the Draenei guards, and the single Naaru guard in the keep, Mu'ru. The other Draenei and naaru agree to watch carefully for signs of this prophecy occurring.

Within a few weeks, the blood elves had apparently completed a round of studies, and left tempest keep. Outland had settled down to a small measure of safety, so the Draenei guards that had watched the keep left as well leaving only Mu'ru. Within two days of the last draenei leaving, a group of blood elf mages attacked the keep, and captured Mu'ru. With no witnesses, and little contact with the keep, no one realized that Mu'ru had been captured for 4 more days. A second group of blood elves soon discovered that Mu'ru had disappeared, and warned the other residents of outland.

Many theories sprung up as to where Mu'ru had gone. Some blamed the Naga, others blamed the blood elves, others thought that tempest keep had opened a portal somehow that allowed more demons to outland. A few trusted advisors, and Draenei guards at tempest keep, knew from the prophecy that the Blood Elves were the culprit, but kept quiet at Velen's suggestion. Velen knew at this point that a prophecy had been set in motion that would most likely free the Blood elves, and the Mu'ru would need to remain captured. In addition, there was no evidence that the blood elves had done the capturing, and the draenei would have a difficult time convincing others based only on a prophecy.

Soon, Akama's broken learned what had happened, and told Velen's draenei. Several blood elf leaders had become more callous and racially selfish lately, perhaps from the demonic magic or the loss in northrend. These leaders, on hearing from the Draenei what the naaru were, saw a captured Naaru as a perfect weapon against the scourge, and decided to capture some to send back to Azeroth for use by the Blood Elves there. Mu'ru at this point was most likely either on azeroth, or waiting to be transported to a portal that the Blood elves had used to travel there.

Velen asked akama to keep this information secret, but also knew that the blood elves might very well be the demonially corrupted race that would need rescuing, and that the draenei could easily be the first target. Velen ordered Shattrath to be fortified, and for Draenei fighters to begin training. To the blood elves, Velen simply claimed that this new work was simply to prepare for a possible demonic invasion, but it was really to prepare for a potential blood elf attack. Akama was also ordered to spy on the illidari, and to send to the main draeni any information about possible attacks, or other corruption.

Blood Elf DeteriorationEdit

The blood elves and naga cared little about what the Draenei were doing. They simply set to work enhancing their magical powers, gorging themselves on both demonic magic and nether magic, and settled throughout outland. The naga settled mainly in the Zangarmarsh, and began their own mysterious projects. Akama's draenei settled in the shadowmoon valley.

As expected, the Illidari were evolving in a more evil and power hungry direction. The blood elves, once cooperative with the outland dwellers, became more callous towards all others except the Naga. The Naga mostly kept to themselves, but tended to consume more than their share of resources. Most alarmingly, the previous demonic lord magtheridon had been kept alive, to create newer generations of Fel orcs. Illidan himself became more moody and paranoid over time. Illidan became easier for Vashj and Kael'thas to demand favors from, and other outland dwellers (including the Draenei, uncorrupted orcs, ogres, and others) were unable to prevent the Blood elves and naga from slowly encroaching on their resources and territory.

Soon, the Blood Elves fully captured tempest keep, and moved it from its original Terrokar forest landing place to the Netherstorm. The elves made sure to get an order from Illidan allowing the transfer, and the Draenei could do little but argue against this move. The Blood elves eet up other bases in the Netherstorm to capture the energies of that region.

Shattrath WarEdit

Soon, Illidan ordered Shattrath emptied at Kael'thas's request. The Draenei did not accept this order, and sent a message to Illidan asking for reconsideration of this order, as Shattrath was an important living space for most of the Draenei, and was also important culturally for them. Illidan did not rescind his order, and soon several Blood Elves arrived in the city to remove the Draenei and Naaru. The draenei again refused, and when the blood elves tried to force their way into the city, the Draenei closed the entrances. Illidan, on hearing of this defiance, declared war on DShattrath, and ordered his soldiers to attack any draenei or naaru outpost aside from those controlled by Akama. Akama himself found plausible ways to occupy himself in shadowmoon valley, to avoid becoming involved in the war.

The Draenei fought much more effectively than the Illidari expected. The Draenei unleashed their own skill with magic, and their strength and powers with the Light, fighting off several larger armies of blood elves. The Illidari, however, sent their more experienced and elite fighters, and slowly forced the draenei out of town after town, destroying the settlements in the process. Velen organized his fighters into larger groups, and with the help of Akama's spying, was able to hold off more attacks and defeat large blood elf and naga armies.

Unfortunately, as with the fighting against Magtheridon, the Draenei were outnumbered, and were pushed out of town after town by the Blood elves and Naga, who were now helped by enslaved demons and fel orcs. Over a period of three years, the Draenei were first forced back into Terrokar forest, and slowly pushed through the forest as well. At the end of the three years, the Draenei had been forced back to Shattrath city itself. Illidans forces attacked it many times, but thanks to its fortifications, could not capture it.

Scryer DefectionEdit

Finally, Kael'thas ordered his most skilled forces, the Scryers, to make a large attack against Shattrath. As the scryers approached the city, the Draenei and naaru prepared to defend it as usual, but instead of attacking, the scryers surrendered, and asked to be allowed to serve the naaru. While many Draenei did not want these elves in the city, they could tell that the elves were telli8ng the truth, and knew that allowing the elves into the city was better than fighting a battle that they very well could loose.

The scryers had two reasons for defecting. Kael'thas, and many other elves, had over time become more and more unstable from their demonic magic usage, and the scryers did not want their race ot continue on the path it was following. The Draenei were not surprised that it was no coincidence that the defectors were among Kael'thas's best fighters, during the wars the other elves had often seemed overly reckless and aggressive, working poorly together,k and many suspected that demonic corruption was at fault.

The second reason was that the Scryers had heard sections of Velen's prophecy. They had known about the capture of Mu'ru, some had participated, and the description of the Blood elves demonic corruption also sounded familiar. The scryers wanted to learn to full prophecy, to help their kin on azeroth.

Most Draenei were still angry at the scryers, and wanted the scryers to perform penances, or in some other way pay for, their participation in the war against the draenei. The naaru, however, and a few draenei including Velen, were more forgiving, and allowed the scryers to live in their own section of Shattrath, provided they assisted in its defense, and told all that they knew about the Illidari's actions. The scyers outperformed these requests, helping the draenei recapture and defend many of their old outposts in addition to defending Shattrath. The Draenei also learned more about azeroth, getting a history of the scourge invasion, the orcs' attacks on azeroth, and other such events.

Escape to a New WorldEdit

The scryers' assistance had given the draenei a much better chance in the Outland wars, but Velen knew that the fighting would still use up much time and energy, and that new help would be needed to defeat the Illidari. there was also a worry that Illidan would change his position on working with the burning legion, and that the legion's demons would join Illidan's forces in defeating the remaining draenei. Using the scryers' knowledge of blood elf outposts, Velen created a plan to attack Tempest keep, capture it, and use the keep to travel to new worlds to seek help against the Illidari.

Velen's mission was considered highly dangerous by most Draenei, but he was able to find volunteer fighters to capture the ship, others to drive the keep, and others who could grow food, find supplies, and otherwise help the draenei survive whichever world they found themselves on.

Velen was able to travel to the netherstorm undetected, but when his forces took to the air to reach tempest keep, they were spotted by blood elves, and the keep's defenders were reinforced. Velen's fighters fought hard, succeeded in capturing on of the outer structures of the keep. However, a stream of blood elves was travelling to the netherstorm to deal with this attack, so rather than attempting to capture more of the keep, Velen ordered his section detached, and used that section alone to travel to new worlds.

Unfortunately, a few blood elves remained inside the section of the keep, and realizing what the draenei were planning to do, they interfered with the structure's operation. the draenei pilots, realizing that the dimensional structure was failing to work properly, directed it to the nearest world. As the ship approached the mysterious new world, many systems futrhter were disrupted, and the ship left the twisting nether far above the world, falling towards it. The draenei pilots has difficulty controlling the structure, and directed it at the nearest piece of land, while attempting to slow the fall as much as possible. parts of the structure fell off as it approached the surface, and soon the pieces landed on a couple of islands to the west of a large continent.

AzerothEdit

The main section of the exodar had landed relatively smoothly, the draenei pilots had slowed it enough to land with a hard thump, breaking some bones, but not killing any of the draenei on board. The draenei soon healed these survivors, and set out to find other survivors. They established an outpost called "azure watch", named after the blue mist covering most of the islands. Most of the supplies were left in the dimensional structure, now called "Exodar" by the draenei.

Other sections of the structure had not fared so well. they had landed harder, killing or seriously injuring many draenei. The survivors reacted relatively well, managing to save and heal most survivors, but took time to organize themselves. The new lands were dangerous, with many wild animals, rough hills, furbolgs, and other threatening creatures and terrain. The draenei survivalists focused first on setting up camps, and organizing their own small groups, before travelling further and finding more survivors.

It took around a month for all the groups of draenei to find each other and organize themselves. the draenei in the exodar knew that the dimensional ship would be useless for travel between worlds, and rather than immediately travelling outwards to search for help, the draenei first took time to learn about where they had landed, and organized defenses should something attack. The exodar had landed on the southern section of a large mist covered island. The south end of the island, though filled with wild animals, was relatively safe, but the northern section of the island had quickly turned red, appretnyl from some component of the exodar.

The only intelligent life on these islands were hunchbacked, furred creatures, later learned to be furbolgs, and large feathered and antlered creatures, later learned to be moonkin. The moonkin attacked the draenei almost immediately when they landed, but most furbolgs soon became friendly with the draenei. They spoke of more intelligent creatures on the continent to the east, creatures with astounding powers, who could call down mnoonbeams, change into animals, make the trees come alive, and other such powers.

Unfortunately for the draenei, many blood elves had also travelled on the exodar, and these elves were now attempting to organize. Some groups had quickly been spotted and dealt with by the draenei, but more seemed to be coming from the north. The draenei defenders and several furbolgs, now focused most of their energy to the north, to defend themselves against the newly attacking blood elves. Naga also surrounded the islands, but these seemed to have no contact with those on outland.

Velen ordered the construction of a dock to the south of the exodar, for several boats to be built, to explore the continent and contact anyone who could be found there. Velen hoped to send small groups of ambassadors to contact anyone he could, get help against the blood elves, than find a way to travel to outland and defeat the Illidari there.

Night Elf ContactEdit

Before Velen's boats could be completed and launched, an azerothian ship wrecked itself on the islands. The ship had been sailing from theramore to Auberdine, and had gotten lost thanks to a storm and the island's mist. On the ship were many humans, dwarves, gnomes, and a few night elves. When the draenei lookouts first approached the ship, the sailors mistook them for eredar, and either threatened the draenei or began praying or pleading for mercy. The draenei were surprised at first, but figured out this mistaken identity. To convince the sailors that they were not a threat, the draenei demonstrated holy powers, and healed several of the sailors. While the sailors were not fully convinced, the draenei did gain enough trust that the sailors agreed to travel to exodar to meet with draenei leaders.

On the exodar, Velen tried to explain his situation to the sailors and gain some sort of assistance for them. The sailors were suspicious of the story, but agreed to send a message to the Night Elves on the mainland and set up further contact between the two groups. The sailors and draenei worked together to finish the draenei boats. As the messengers traveled to Auberdine, the draenei assisted the sailors in salvaging materials from the shipwreck. Within two days, the messengers from auberdine returned, along with several additional Night Elves. One group of night elves talked with the shipwrecked sailors, to record the goods lost and salvaged, and otherwise sort out information regarding the shipwreck. Other night elves talked with the draenei, In both Auberdine and Teldrassil, the elves had heard a noise and seen flashes a few weeks ago, and wanted as much information as possible.

The Draenei explained their situation, and hoped the the Night Elves would know enough about portals and magic to repair the exodar or otherwise travel to outland. although they had learned about "Night Elves" and "azeroth" on Outland, they did not know whether these creature's names for themselves was simply a coincidence. When the Night elf messengers told the draenei that, yes, this world was azeroth, that these "Night Elves" were the creatures the draenei had learned about, and that they were part of a powerful alliance with much magic skill, technology, and large fighting forces.

The night Elves also told the draenei about the horde, describing Hellscream's war, the Battle of Mt. Hyjal, and the fighting against the scourge, forsaken, and blood elves in the Eastern Kingdoms. The Draenei were interested in hearing about events on this new world, but also were surprised at how the Night Elves were describing the orcs and Blood elves. While there certainly was a strong dislike of the two groups, the Night Elves viewed them more as a problematic political and diplomatic situation than as threats to the entire world itself. The Draenei, who were used to demonically corrupted orcs and blood elves, were surprised at how on azeroth the two races had kept themselves under control better.

Velen agreed to send ambassadors to Darnassus, and the human and Dwarf capital cities, and to set up a ferry between the so called azuremyst islands and Auberdine. Soon, Velen himself was meeting with the Night Elf leader Tyrande to discuss problems in ashenvale and on the Azuremysts.

The Azuremyst BattlesEdit

The first order of business for the two leaders was either capturing or killing the remaining blood elves on the azuremyst isles. No other serious threat to the Draenei was on the islands, and once the blood elf threat was removed the draenei could put their resources towards helping the rest of the alliance with their issues, and building a portal to outland.

They draenei had organized their fighters into the o called "Argus Watch", who had fought their way into the red misted "Bloodmyst isle", and also defended the boundary between Bloodmyst and the southern islands. The Argus watch, however, soon ran into larger numbers of blood elves than expected, far more than could have been carried on the exodar. The Argus watch sent scouts to find out where the large numbers of blood elves had come from, and also fought small groups and attempted to capture elves for questioning.

Soon, a captured blood elf revealed that some blood elves had found a way to summon reinforcements from outland. The draenei scouts confirmed this story, they saw the blood elves using a piece of the exodar called the Vector coil being used to power a summoning spell. the spell was not too effective, only bringing about 3 blood elves an hour to the islands, but over several weeks this spell allowed the Blood Elves to build a substantial force on Bloodmyst, with which they planned to recapture the Exodar.

When Velen discussed this situation with Tyrande, she agreed to help the draenei defeat these blood elves, and sent a large number of druids and sentinels from Teldrassil and Ashenvale. When the sentinels arrived, they and the Argus Watch fought a series of battles, culminating in the Battle of the Vector Coil. Throughout these battles, the sentinels would stealthily surround Blood elf outposts and groups in the forests and hills of Bloodmyst, while the draenei would attack directly. When enough Blood elves had joined the battle, the sentinels would attack the outpost from all sides, preventing the Blood elves from escaping.

A few druids remained on Bloodmyst isle, to help clean up the pollution caused by the fragments of the exodar, and some Argus watch remained to guard the islands, but most of the Draenei fighters travelled to Ashenvale to assist the night Elves. some also travelled to the Eastern Kingdoms, to learn about the other allkiance races, and assist with problems in that section of the world.

Further ContactEdit

AllianceEdit

Like with the Night elves and shipwrecked sailors, many of the human, Dwarf, and Gnome leaders were at first scared of the draenei, thinking them to be demonic eredar, but soon welcomed the draenei warmly after this was shown to be wrong. The Paladins of the eastern kingdoms were especially interested in the Draenei's own traditions and abilities with the holy light, as were the Draenei with the Azerothian traditions.

Velen had wanted the alliance to set to work as soon as possible at creating a portal to Outland and help the Draenei as soon as possible. Unfortunately, while the alliance leaders were willing to listen to this request and appeared to take it seriously, no actions were taken. Velen was told that that azeroth had two possible portals to use, the portal in Dalaran, and the original dark portal to the southeast of Stormwind. he soon learned, though, that the portal in Dalaran had been destroyed, and that the alliance mages were not sure how to reactivate the dark portal. In any case, the human kingdom of Stormwind lacked strong leadership, and the alliance in general had many problems closer to home to focus their energy on, and could not at the moment spare soldiers or mages to fight on Outland.

HordeEdit

The Horde's first contact with the Draenei occurred shortly after the battle of the Vector coil. Draenei in ashenvale soon found themselves fighting with the Night elves against the Warsong clan. The Warsong clan, like many others, thought that the Draenei were demonic eredar. Clan leaders and soldiers were angry that the alliance would sink so low as to ally with demons, and fought hard to defeat these new demons. Within a few battles the warsong clan had captured several Draenei, who were interrogated and treated roughly. The prisoners, however, insisted they were not demons, and also did not act how the warsong expected an eredar prisoner to act.

The prisoners were sent to Orgrimmar to be held until some better way could be found to get the truth out of them. The Draenei acted the same in Orgrimmar as they did to the warsong, however, and the Orgrimmar orcs asked their new Blood Elf allies to interrogate the draenei. The blood elves had developed a number of spells useful in interrogating prisoners, and the orcs hoped that these spells would finally break the supposed eredar prisoners. The Blood elves, though, quickly realized that the draenei were not demonic, and the prisoners were were given back to the warsong to be treated as normal prisoners. The horde's spies set to work learning as much as possible about these new members of the Alliance.

The Draenei were somewhat surprised by how the horde had acted, but after those first prisoners they were treated as any other member of the alliance would be. The first contact between the Draenei and horde would have a bigger effect on the orcs, and particularly Blood Elves.

Outland after Velen's DepartureEdit

As Velen's group settled on azeroth, the fighting on Outland continued. Without Velen's leadership, relations between the scryers and other Draenei soured over time, but the two group were still able to fight effectively against the Illidari. As time passed with no contact, the Draenei worried that Velen had been unsuccessful at finding help. The outland blood elves were still as callous and angry as they had always been, and many Draenei suspected that some were trying to work with the burning legion against illidan's orders.

When the blood Elf stowaways on Bloodmyst contacted outland, however, things changed quickly. The blood elf attacks were called off, while mages worked on finding a way to to produce a larger portal, and waited eagerly for Draenei prisoners and pieces of the Exodar to experiment on. During the battle of the Vector Coil, however, a message was sent to Outland, telling the blood Elves there that the Draeni had gotten assistance from Night Elves. When the portal was destroyed soon after, the blood elf mages became furious at loosing their prize to the interfering Night elves, who they remembered more for Maiev than for Dalaran, with help from Naga memories as well.

The Outland blood elves wanted revenge, and mages went to work activating a portal to Azeroth. the portal to Dalaran had been destroyed five year ago when Magister Romnath's group traveled to Quel'thalas, bu the Dark portal remained, and the Elves put all their energy towards disovering how it worked, and rebuilding and reactivating it. The scryers were amazed that the other Outland elves would do such a thing, as the illidari would almost certainly be far outnumbered and might have to fight across much of azeroth to find the Draenei, but the Elves had stopped the attacks on Draenei and Scryer outposts, and most draenei and scryers were happy for this change.
