The Ordeal

A child at around 10-11 was in the shadows, a small dagger in hand. He was slowly lurking towards a cheese wheel and a loaf of bread. This vendor was different. Some type of red, reptilian dog in a cage looked at him and immediately sounded the alarm. A spellcage popped up, imprisoning the child. The vendor rushed to his cart to see what was going on.

"Guards!!! Guards!!!"

Two patrolling guards walked up to the vendor to see what was going on.

"This little street rat was trying to steal my food me, these little bastards are always trying to steal from, make sure this one's punishment is extra brutal."

"Oh okay sir, I'll personally see to it" One of the guard said with veiled sarcasm. So they took the child into one of the alleys and one gave him a harsh jab in the stomach with the butt of his spear, the other removed his mail glove and slapped him with it. At this the guards gave him a warning and walked off to patrol the city. After that, he decided to exact revenge on the wealthy merchant who he found out later was a Member of the Cult of the Damned...

A (not so) Tempting Offer

When Karganis was around 50, he finally saw the opportunity to kill the merchant. Sneeking in to his villa, daggers in hand, he saw the sleeping merchant. Dagger held ready to strike, something lept from the shadows and pounced on him, teeth precariously holding Kar'anis' throat.

"Do you like him? His name is Shadow. He was a gift from My Master. He protects me from street rats like you." At this the merchant spoke to the hound in an unknown tongue and the beast let go of Karanis.

"You would be useful to my Cause. My friend Alexei would have much to teach you...

"Well that's interesting but, I'm afraid I shouldn't. There's rumors the Scourge might attack Quel'thalas and I'm afraid I would never want to be a cause of it." Karanis said quite frightened

"Well if you ever change your mind, meet me at the Agamand Family Crypt at the around midnight, I'll be there..."

Karaganis knowing this would never happened played along and quickly left, not without stealing a nice necklace, some silver coins, and a ring off the mercants desk, however.

The Deciding

Sure enough the rumors Karaganis head were correct. Around three weeks later, the Scourge struck, wiping out Quel'thalas. Fleeing with some others, Karaganis survived, and deeply distraught. At this Karaganis decided he would join the Merchant's cult, and destroy it from within...

Training

Agamand Family Crypts, midnight.

A rider disbatched from Southshore. For quite some time, he had worked as a farmhand for a wealthy family. He approached, dismounted, and commanded the steed to return to the Southshore stables where he would meet him in the morning. The rider heard a digging and decided to follow it. He saw the Merchant, but he was different. His pale skin turned black.

"Look who finally became enlightened..." The Merchant smirked.

"Come, come I have much to show you..." He said leading Karanis to a tunnel behind one of the mausoleums. They walked for a very long time till Karanis could see steps leading out from the tunnel into a room, a laboratory of sorts.

"Open the box" The Merchant said while pointing to a box on the lab's table. Karanis did as he was told and opened it. In there was a whelp, panting and seemed to be dying.

"Now watch this" The merchant said while smirking. He lobbed a shadow bolt at the dying whelp and with a squeal, it passed into the Great Dark. He starting saying what Karanis figured to be a spell. At this the whelp's body floated into the air and his skin began to change into a hideous green. His skin decayed and his eyes became hollow. The Plagued whelp snorted and flapped over to it's new master.

"Cute, no?" The Merchant said as he began to smirk which broke into an insidious cackle.

"I think I've made a mistake" Karanis began starting up the door.

"Gruumio!" The merchant screeked. A huge abomination walked in to prevent Karanis from leaving. Seeing the abberation, he fainted.

The "Transformation"

Karanis awoke strapped to a chair. He tried to shake his way free since no one was in the room, but he couldn't move. Now that he was awake, his mind began to clear and he realized his body was completely numb. After trying to scream, he was able to figure out only his eyes could flitter in their sockets. The door opened and in came the Merchant and a friend. This friend had a black robe and a old black, dusty tome in his hand. Two abomination guards came in also. "Well young friend, I was told by my Master says he wants to keep you alive for an experiment. If we can use a necromantic spell to create the perfect living servant, we can make sure all our living necromancers and Death Knights are COMPLETELY loyal. Of course, this spell will directly link you to the Lich King as the undead are. Cheer up, this is a great honor for you and Scourge!" At this Karanis' eyes bulged. He realized he would a guinea pig, and then a slave. The Light knows what'll happen to him if it doesn't turn out right. So the Merchant started to pour himself a drink while the necromancer flipped through the pages looking for what he needed. The merchant set down his class on the desk and with a club, hit Karanis on the head. All went black for Karanis.

The Awakening

Karanis awoke to find himself in a dead field. "Finally you are awake. It is time for your journey for your training." Karanis heard the voice, but the clearing he was in was clearly empty. "I am The Lich King, your new master. I can communicate with you in your mind. If you chose not to listen to my directions, I can force you. But NEVER make me do that..." The voice said insidiously. Karanis was scared at the "NEVER" part and didn't argue. "You know your way around Lordaeron I presume. Go to the town of Brill. Stealth your way in and steal a Red Steed. At this, command the steed with your new powers grnated to you, and flee Brill as the citizens you see there will not be happy one of the mounts was stolen..." The voice said cooly. So Karanis headed out till he could see the outline of Brill. It was evening now so it there would be less chance of him geting caught. The voice told him the steed was tied to a post by the town hall and that the horse would bend to Karanis' new necromantic will. The horse saw him and bucked. As if by instinct, Karanis shot his arm put and calmed the horse. When it was calm, he immeditaely showed he was dominant by making the decying beast kneel down. Unstealthing himself as he was told, he cut the ropes binding the horse to the pole, jumped on it, and made the steed gallop away. He made the horse keep riding east till the voice commanded him to stop. "You have passed the first test lowly one, now onto he next one. Go east until you see an enormous building high in the sky. Go to the platform and wait for what happens..." Karanis having no will, did as he as told until he saw it. He stepped onto the platform when men with black tabards jumped out, swords rushing at him. With another "instinct", he made the the dead themselves rise from the ground. These beasts fought their way through the men while Karanis attacked with his daggers. With all the soldiers dead, the voice once again sounded. "Even I myself am shocked by how powerful the ghouls you summoned were. My servant Kel'thuzad was wrong about you elf, you will indeed be useful..." The voice sounded almost proud at Karanis. He ascended onto the platform and this time saw a very different scene. This place was damp, dark, and cold. He saw acolytes, undead, and Scourge members of all races in here. A currier was sent to bring him to one of the wing's which he later finds out to be the Death Knight Wing. The currier told him his instructor would be Thane Korth'azz. As he approached the man, he saw it was a Dwarf.

"Well it seems we have another recruit on our hands. Talk t'me, whelp." The dwarf sad shrewdly.

"I was told by" Korth inteerupted him. "Yeah, yeah I know. Kel'thuzad sent you to me for training. Which our Master has forced me to accept. First of all, let me see what you can do so far."

Karanis showed him he was able to control the Death Knight's horse (well undead horse), and he was able to raise some ghouls.

"I must say I am impressed with the power of yer minions, but the rest, it was horrible!!! The Master has given me an almost impossible task!" He boomed at the top of his lungs. "I want you to go to the Scholomance and read every book on Death Knights and Necromancy they have!!!! Is that understood?!"

"Yes sir.." Karanis and his horse went back and received a map on how to get to this "Scholomance" and he set off.

The Scholomance...
