Piroko Steamspindle is the outspoken owner-founder of Atelier Steamspindle. A gnomish engineer and merchant, her claim to fame is the invention of the Alliance's tank landing ship, an invention which among gnomes is regarded as rather unimaginative. Her unacknowledged inventions include a variety of manufacturing processes related to stamping, continuous extrusion, and sand casting.
She is known for her vehement dislike of night elves (to say nothing of the Kalimdor horde) for being "irrationally primitive". She has openly (or more precisely, overtly) endorsed the Bloodsail Buccaneers, stating "We're both trying to rob the Goblins blind, they've just found a faster way to do it." On the same note, she has been known to occasionally deal with the Scarlet Crusade, reasoning that the undead are better off just plain dead. Nevertheless, she has no illusions of trust with either organization and makes a point to never meet without the company's flotilla of submarines at her back.
Her prejudiced antics have become the bane of Jaina Proudmoore's Alliance but have endeared her with the Eastern Kingdoms. During her first (and only) journey to Darnassus, she remarked to none less then Fandral Staghelm that she "can't blame druids for wanting to sleep all the time. I mean, look at Kaldorei history; one cataclysm followed by ten thousand years of stupid. You should thank us for punctuating it for you."
All The World's Fighting Mechanicals
A publication of Atelier Steamspindle, All The World's Fighting Mechanicals is spotters guide of Alliance and Goblin vehicles. Known to be Alliance biased as well as being somewhat inaccurate, it's generally regarded as more of a children's book for young gnomes and dwarves then an actual compilation of factual military data.
- Sapper-bot
- Colloquially referred to as a bombling, sapper-bots are small robots designed specifically to carry explosives, although realistically there's no reason they couldn't carry other things. They're just very inexpensive and thus ideal for carrying bombs. Their simple "point and take cover" user interface makes them very useful to siege demolitionists.
- Sentry-bot
- The "alarm-o-bots" of Gnomeregan prove the point that a sapper-bot can do things other then just carry high explosives. Sentry-bots are fitted with sensors and klaxons and set loose to wander around and cause a panic when they encounter things and beings they haven't encountered before. For this reason they tend to be repaired rather then replaced, to avoid the rather lengthy breaking-in period when they familiarize themselves with their surroundings.
- Clockwork-bot
- Clockwork-bots are a reasonably new line of flimsy general purpose humanoid mechanicals designed for domestic chores (hence their streamlined appearance). The initial run sold poorly, and rather then pay to dispose of them, it was decided to burn down the remaining stock by wrapping them and hoping nobody notices a few extra boxes under the tree during Winter Veil.
- Mechanobot
- The gold standard in automated sentries, the gnomish mechanobot is a general purpose humanoid mechanical that can be modified to fill a wide variety of applications and comes in several sizes. The most common variants are designed to act as personal bodyguards.
- Mechanostrider
- Scout Mechanotank
- Siege Mechanotank
- Gnomish Pounder
- No gnomish engineer will ever admit envy of their goblin counterparts; but as they say, mimicry is the sincerest form of flattery. The gnomish pounder is a direct rebuttal to the goblin shredder. Designed around an enlarged mechanobot frame with a cockpit, they retain the basic internals of their ancestor and are capable of unguided operation.
