Gilneas is located in southern Lordaeron, southwest of the Silverpine Forest. It is the site of the kingdom of Gilneas which withdrew its forces from the Alliance after the Second War. The land its self is a rolling, hilly peninsula jutting out into the Great Sea, creating Baradin Bay to the east. Southeast of the peninsula is Zul'Dare, a large island once home to a small Dark Troll empire that was completely taken over by Shadowscale Naga. Murlocs inhabit many of the coastlines, and the orcs, forsaken and Alliance humans have towns in the far north.
The nation of Gilneas was once part of the Alliance, but withdrew its self from their forces right after the end of the Second War when their leader, Genn Greymane, believed that his nation did not need the Alliance anymore to survive. However, the Alliance did built an Internment Camp on their land before they built the Greymane Wall and separated themselves from the rest of the world.
When the wall was built, Gilneas troops stormed into the Internment Camp and razed it, killing all of the Alliance guards and a great deal of the orcs before leaving returning to their city in the far south of the peninsula. The orcs that could escape fled and founded a town further down the peninsula presently known as Bloodfire Fortress.
At the sizable town of orcs, a new threat arose - the Shadowscale naga began to attack the peninsula from their island fortress of Zul’Dare. Gilneas was also being invaded by their forces. This called upon the orcs’ most powerful warlock amongst their forces: Golgrim Bloodfire. After months of work, the warlock created the Bloodfire Concoction, a demonic essence that could temporarily turn his orcs into Fel Orc berserkers.
The shamans amongst the orcs disagreed with Bloodfire’s philosophy, so they and their followers deserted the orcish fortress and returned to the ruined internment camp. As the Bloodfire Fortress, as it came to be called, fell deeper into demonic madness, the shamans and their followers bolstered the derelict battlements of the camp and built their own buildings on the foundations of the ruined lodges.
Near the city of Gilneas proper, the Naga have staged a huge attack on the city. Infesting the lower portion of the Greymane Road, which leads into the city from the wall, they constantly stage attacks on Gilneas’ front battlements. Because of this, Gilneas has relinquished its xenophobia and now accepts the help of travelers that can get inside the city.
Just before the Naga attack, a powerful mage named Vortigran deserted the city of Gilneas and began studying demonic magics and necromancy. He attracted a host of acolytes, and they began raising corpses from the crypts at the Gilneas cemetery northeast of the city. Undead of all types have begun appearing there, fanatical followers of Vortigran, who is teaching necromancy to his many acolytes in a highly fortified church at the heart of the graveyard.
Finally, after all of the strain of the many new threats of Gilneas, the nation proper opened the gate of the Greymane Wall, welcoming the outside world to help them. The Forsaken came first, and found the internment camp. Helping the orcs there establish a connection with the modern Horde, the Gilneas Internment Camp is now a frontier community for the faction. The Alliance also came, building a port in the northern part of the peninsula, known as Northport. The two towns constantly fight, both against themselves, and also against the marauding Bloodfire Clan. Gilneas to the south welcomes help as much as can get past the Naga, and the unseen frontier of the Gilneas Peninsula beckons to any brave adventurer.

Gilneas is a long peninsula with beaches fringing it. It gets to be hilly as you travel south, but is almost like a thin pine forest in the north. The beaches are wide and the color of chalk, and are inhabited by Murlocs and crabs. The southeastern shores are battered by the waves of Baradin Bay, and the northeastern are calm, but chilled by cold breezes blowing down from Northrend. The landscape is windswept and dotted with small clusters of pine trees, as well as tall grasses and a few bluffs near the sea. To the north, there are high mountains separating the place from the Silverpine Forest.
There is one instance in this zone: Zul’Dare. There are no battlegrounds, but the northern forest is an area where optional PvP may be held, as it is between the two towns and contested territory.
