History

Youth

Maaia was born forty-four years ago in northern Lordaeron, daughter of a strapping ranger of Silvermoon and a pretty young barmaid. When she was but a week old, her parents left her in the care of an enigmatic woman named "Bauksia" who lived in the woods "because daddy was already married to a shrew of a woman in Fairbreeze Village and mommy didn't want a mongrel baby!". She was brought up believing her parents had died only a short while after she was born. While the harassment Maaia received from others was as about as bad as that any of her race encountered, she was spared the harsher treatments out of everybody's fear of her foster mother.

Hedge Wizard

Upon reaching puberty, Maaia began to show signs of what her foster parent called "the blessing of the Blue Lord", or what others called "magic in the blood": flames would change color as she went near them, cats and dogs would walk upright, and the hairs on other people's heads would "dance" as if they had gone near a source of electricity. Bauksia taught the young half-breed just enough to at least control and supress these abilities. Then, when Maaia came of age, strings were pulled to get her formal training in Dalaran. Maaia came to Dalaran at a "bad time", when the were few magi capable of training an apprentice with such abilities as Maaia exhibited either did not wish to, or already had their hands full. So it was that she spent ten winters as a scribe, copying recorded information. Much of her spare time was spent reading books of lore, hanging out in the barracks, or tending the gardens. When she turned thirty, her luck took a turn for the better when a gnome named Aolor Fabberk (pronounced by himself "arr-lr fab-burk"), offered to take her under his wing. Eight long years later, Maaia's apprenticeship ended and Fabberk vanished not long after. Dalaran fell under attack the following year and Maaia was among the wizard-realm's defenders, ordered to "defend the city at all costs". She followed that order "to the letter" until towers began to collapse, and she fled through the city's northern gate. She skirted the eastern end of the crumbling ruin and dodged blows from beguiled and risen warriors. As her legs began to tire, she spotted a figure atop a hill that struck such fear into her heart that she began her flight with renewed vigor. Upon reaching the nearest settlement - Southshore - she brooded her inability to more effectively help her peers in their time of need, until in a moment of sobriety she remembered reading in a book that her Highborne ancestors had a great understanding of the workings of magic...probably more than enough to keep such a catastrophe from ever happening again!

Go West!

After two months of planning, Maaia journeyed south to Menethil Harbor, where she won passage to Kalimdor aboard a merchant ship in a game of cards. Upon reaching the then-new port city of Theramore, Maaia met "someone special" and forgot all about her original purpose, until she got too clingy and ended up driving the poor man away. With a sigh, she began to wander the ancient, magic-torn shores and peaks of Kalimdor, until at long last she found an ancient tomb... This ruin, and many others like it that she explored over the next five years, had little to nothing of interest -- mostly ruined suits of armor, broken weapons, and diaries. Running messages from Alliance leaders to Horde leaders and vice versa, and doing other odd jobs (more often than not for the goblins of the Steamwheedle Cartel) proved to be a more effective means of getting what she wanted, and in time she decided to give her days of "glorified grave-robbing" a rest. While helping the gnomes and goblins of Everlook out, Maaia was ambushed by undead, many of which she had never before seen. She would have perished had it not been for the efforts of a group of adventurers under the banner of the Horde; while resting in their camp that night, a "particularly well-mannered troll woman" offered to "give Maaia her good word" if she ever decided to join the Horde. Tiring of facing discrimination in Alliance settlements whenever things went bad, Maaia took the troll up on her offer and found herself on one knee in front of Thrall, swearing herself to his service.

Where Is She Now?

Maaia now spends most of her time wandering the Horde's territories, teaching magi like herself to better control the energies that course through their veins, writing spells down onto scrolls for the more scholastic types, gathering components for spells, or opening portals for inflated prices.

Appearance

Maaia is short, standing only five feet and two inches in height. She is often mistaken for a slender human or a pudgy elf, and it is only when one gets close enough to see her ears that her heritage becomes apparent. Her hair is long and often pulled back with a golden brace inlaid with jade. It is of a platinum color, and frames a pretty face set with violet eyes. She wears a suit of purple forest green runecloth, adorned with rawhide straps. From her shoulders hangs a dark cloak lined with the fur of a mammal native to the northern wastes, and in a sheath at her right hip rests a sword of Forsaken make.

Personality

Because of the harassment she endured when she was younger, Maaia prefers to keep her distance from others and will spend anywhere from minutes to years "feeling somebody out" before she even begins to trust them. During this "grace period", she will not go out of her way to mistreat an individual, but neither will she throw her cloak over a puddle and walk them across it. Once she has deemed someone trustworthy, she will never forget their kindness to her; on the flip side, once she has deemed another untrustworthy she will most likely never forgive them and should they ever have the gall to show their faces around her she will ride them like a knight his mount. Elves and humans find themselves having to work twice as hard to gain Maaia's trust, although as one blood elf warlock has found out only recently, money and compliments are as good a foundation to her trust as any. Her speech is seldom flowered, always brief, and such that she hardly ever cuts corners when she wishes to "get to the point". She seldom talks unless spoken to first, or she feels her opinion will in some way contribute to a conversation. She is not above breaking minor laws or telling lies to get what she wants, and she has a habit for taking things that don't belong to her because she "gets a rush out of it".

Note

I roleplay Maaia as a half-elf.

I don't talk to people whose names do not comply with the standard set for RP servers, nor do I ERP.

I'm usually too lazy to change my RP flags on FlagRSP. sry guise. Just assume that when I'm doing dalies/acheivement runs, in an instance, or I state that I'm OoC, I'm OoC.

Maaia also has an Armory page. You know how to get there. If you don't, just click on the linl at the top of this page.

Maaia is as strong as a human peasant, and can in fact beat many such specimens (orc peons included) in armwrestling matches. She wishes to one day armwrestle a daemon.
