Derenas Tyraldor is a Knight of the Argent Crusade (Ex Scarlet Crusader) who seeks to reclaim the lost kingdom of Lordaeron and fights for the destruction of the Scourge. He is a fierce warrior and a staunch defender of both the Alliance and the Holy Light. As of late he has focused less on fighting the undead in Lordaeron and has traveled to Northrend to help the newly formed Argent Crusade take the fight to the Scourge.

Biography

Before the Plague and Becoming a Paladin

Derenas was born to James and Sofia Tyraldor at the beginning of the Second War. The young paladin grew up during a dark time of war. When Derenas was only a child, his home city of Hearthglen came under attack by the Orcish Horde. Fortunately the orcs, deep in Alliance territory were eventually pushed out of Lordaeron with the help of the elves. Derenas's father James was one of the many brave soldiers who risked his life defending his home. His mother Sofia was a priestess of the Light who would sometimes teach Derenas about it in hopes that he would be a priest one day too.

After hearing the stories of the great Uther the Lightbringer from his childhood friend Taelan Fordring (who learned them from his father, Tirion) and his new order of holy warriors called paladins, he was inspired to become a Knight of the Silver Hand. Derenas and Taelan began to study the teachings of the Light and trained in physical combat.

The Coming of the Scourge

Rumours swept across the nation of a great undead threat brewing in the north. Word had quickly spread that a Prophet had tried to convince King Terenas to have his people travel west, to the forgotten land of Kalimdor. Foolishly, Terenas dismissed this as ramblings of a mad man and paid no attention to the Prophet's warnings.

One of the the Scourge's early raids was on Hearthglen. At the young age of 19, Derenas was one of the first to take up arms against the undead invaders. He bravely fought alongside his father, now holding the title of Lieutenant Commander. Briefly before the battle started Prince Arthas Menethil and Jaina Proudmoore arrived at the town. Arthas came to the harsh realization that his forces would not hold out much longer and sent a reluctant Jaina to find Uther and inform him of the attack.

The Scourge came in waves, their relentless assault lasting what felt like forever. Fortunately and to the extreme relief of the human defenders, the Silver Hand had stepped in just in time to save the day. To Derenas's surprise, King Terenas had dispatched the legendary Uther the Lightbringer. Not long after the battle was over, a high ranking Knight of the Silver Hand approached Derenas - telling he saw him demonstrate his skills in the field of battle. The seasoned paladin then invited the younger one to join his Order. Derenas eagerly accepted the offer and started on the path of a real Knight.

Aftermath of the fall of Lordaeron

Even after the kingdom was decimated, Derenas stalwartly remained in Lordaeron doing everything possible to assist the few pockets of resistance that remained. Against overwhelming odds they tirelessly battled undead troops on every front. The humans were fighting a war they had already lost. The news most shocking to him was to hear of Arthas's betrayal and Uther's death.

After months of frequent clashes against the massive undead armies, the Scourge's only real opposition was the fanatic Scarlet Crusade. Nearly every one of Lordaeron's citizens had been killed in battle -- those who had survived either cowardly fled across the sea or migrated south to Stormwind in search of protection. Then there was the Crusade, whom of which Derenas didn't know whether to respect or fear. Amidst all the chaos Derenas never did find out what happened to his parents but sadly he has presumed them to be dead.

In World of Warcraft

During the time when World of Warcraft took place, Derenas' efforts were divided in two. The first was protecting all that remains of his once mighty homeland from the constant threat of Forsaken forces. The second being leading Scarlet raids on the Scourge's holdings throughout the plaguelands. When not resting in Southshore or battling the Scourge he spent some of his time in Stormwind at the Cathedral of Light, strengthening his connection to the Light.

The Burning Crusade

Derenas learned from his superior Tirion Fordring that passage to the icy continent of Northrend will soon become available to both the Horde and Alliance. After little deliberation Derenas has decided to focus on destroying the Scourge's seat of power in Northrend before attempting to recapture Lordaeron.

For a short period of time Derenas was a knight of the Scarlet Crusade. Having only a small idea of the Crusade's madness he joined thinking they were the last hope for retaking the fallen kingdom and defeating the undead. After only a few weeks of membership Derenas knew that although Balnazaar, Mograine, and Isilien were all dead it would take the Crusade quite some time to realize just how far they had fallen and even longer to change their ways. Quietly he quit the order and is now blacklisted by the Scarlets.

During the events of the Burning Crusade Derenas acted as representative of the Silver Hand and an ambassador of their interests. He also spent of his time traveling across Outland.

Wrath of the Lich King

When Lord Tirion Fordring called for a merger between the Silver Hand and Argent Dawn, Derenas put his hatred for the Horde aside and pledged himself to the new Order. He made his way to the frozen northlands on one of the first ships available and has begun exploring the new continent...
